A LOCAL-GLOBAL VERSION OF A STEPSIZE CONTROL FOR RUNGE-KUTTA METHODS

  • In this paper we develop a new procedure to control stepsize for Runge- Kutta methods applied to both ordinary differential equations and semi-explicit index 1 differential-algebraic equation In contrast to the standard approach, the error control mechanism presented here is based on monitoring and controlling both the local and global errors of Runge- Kutta formulas. As a result, Runge-Kutta methods with the local-global stepsize control solve differential of differential-algebraic equations with any prescribe accuracy (up to round-off errors)

  • The role of river in the global water cycles and the modelling the horizontal water transport by rivers in the global scale are discussed. Due to the consolidation of the various hydrological information of the planet, now it is possible to monitor and simulate the quantity of the water carried by rivers. Land surface models that were developed originally for giving the boundary condition of the atmospheric and/or climatic models can be fairly used for river runoff simulations at least monthly scale, and it is promissing the approach will be a powerful tool to investigate the future water resources management.

  • This paper briefly outline the approach we are now setting for improving the existing global ocean tidal charts in next few years. There has been notable progress in predicting global ocean tide in mid 90s to improve correction procedures for tidal signals in altimetry with more accurate tidal models (http://podaac.jpl.nasa.gov/) than existing ones.   • Contrast enhancement in the field of ultrasound imaging contributes to improve the accuracy of medical diagnosis by enhancing the visibility of ultrasound images. This paper proposes a contrast enhancement method that improves the contrast of ultrasound images both globally and locally by fusing global and adaptive contrast enhancement methods. Experimental results show that our approach yields more competitive results than the existing global and adaptive contrast enhancement methods in enhancing the visibility of ultrasound images.

  • Global variables can be read or modified by any part of the program, making it difficult to remember or reason about every possible use. Sometime it has tight couplings between some of other variables, and couplings between variables and functions. The main focus of this paper is to use call graph and the control flow analysis to design a model from where we generate the test cases for testing global variables.

  • Throughout the six decades evolution of the public diplomacy concept, international relations approaches have remained at the margins of the field. An important international relations theory that has been virtually non-existent in the public diplomacy literature is the English School of international relations. This theory has been the centerpiece of literature in diplomatic studies, but curiously, has not been applied to public diplomacy. In this editorial, I outline a public diplomacy framework for global governance issues that builds on the English School and Pamment's framework on the intersection of international development and public diplomacy.

  • An efficient global optimization approach for a periodic plasmonic nanoslit array based on extraordinary optical transmission within an acceptable time range is proposed using 𝚀 factor analysis method. The particle swarm optimization is employed as a global optimization tool. The figure of merit is defined as a product of transmission peak value and 𝚀 factor. The design variables are the slit width, height, and period of the slit array, respectively. The optical properties such as transmission spectrum and bandwidth are calculated rigorously using the finite element method.

  • For a real-time quadruped robot running control, there are many important objectives to consider. In this paper, the running control architecture based on global states, which describe the cyclic target motion, and central pattern is proposed. The main goal of the controller is how the robot can have robustness to an unpredictable environment with reducing calculation burden to generate control inputs. Additional goal is construction of a single framework controller to avoid discontinuities during transition between multi-framework controllers and of a training-free controller. The global state dependent neuron network induces adaptation ability to an environment and makes the training-free controller. The central pattern based approach makes the controller have a single framework, and calculation burden is resolved by extracting dynamic equations from the control loop. In our approach, the model of the quadruped robot is designed using anatomical information of a cat, and simulated in 3D dynamic environment. The simulation results show the proposed single framework controller is robustly performed in an unpredictable sloped terrain without training.

Multi-robot Mapping Using Omnidirectional-Vision SLAM Based on Fisheye Images

  • This paper proposes a global mapping algorithm for multiple robots from an omnidirectional-vision simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) approach based on an object extraction method using Lucas-Kanade optical flow motion detection and images obtained through fisheye lenses mounted on robots. The multi-robot mapping algorithm draws a global map by using map data obtained from all of the individual robots. Global mapping takes a long time to process because it exchanges map data from individual robots while searching all areas. An omnidirectional image sensor has many advantages for object detection and mapping because it can measure all information around a robot simultaneously. The process calculations of the correction algorithm are improved over existing methods by correcting only the object's feature points. The proposed algorithm has two steps: first, a local map is created based on an omnidirectional-vision SLAM approach for individual robots. Second, a global map is generated by merging individual maps from multiple robots. The reliability of the proposed mapping algorithm is verified through a comparison of maps based on the proposed algorithm and real maps.

  • The study explores the evolving landscape of overseas expansion strategies by Korean corporations, focusing on recent geopolitical tensions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and disruptions in global supply chains. It emphasizes the challenges faced by industries producing high-value products and delves into the concept of "Friend-Shoring" policies in the United States, leading major Korean companies to invest in local semiconductor, battery, and automotive factories. Recognizing the potential fragmentation of Korea's manufacturing sector, the paper introduces the "Mother Factory" strategy as a policy initiative, inspired by Japan's model, to establish core production facilities domestically. The discussion unfolds by examining the cases of major companies in Japan and the United States, highlighting the need for Korea to adopt a mother factory strategy to mitigate risks associated with friend-shoring policies. Inspired by Intel's "Copy Exactly" approach, the paper proposes a Korean mother factory model integrating smart factory technology and digital twin systems. This strategic shift aims to enhance responsiveness to geopolitical challenges and fortify the competitiveness of Korean high-tech industries. Finally, the paper proposes a Korean Mother Factory based on smart factory concepts. The suggested model integrates smart factory technology and digital twin frameworks to enhance responsiveness and fortify competitiveness. In conclusion, the paper advocates for the adoption of a comprehensive Korean Mother Factory model to address contemporary challenges, foster advanced manufacturing, and ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of Korean high-tech industries in the global landscape. The proposed strategy aligns with the evolving dynamics of the manufacturing sector and emphasizes technological advancements, collaboration, and strategic realignment.
