  • This paper describes a new automatic bi-level image segmentation algorithm which determines local thresholds by applying a locally adaptive edge detection technique to a variable threshold selection method. Computer simulations show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is more robust than those of automatic global thresholding methods.

  • What explains the sharp increase in the Chinese economy's indebtedness, in particular the China's onshore corporate debt? Has the overall debt burden reached a threshold where it poses a systemic risk, thereby making the economy vulnerable to a "Lehman Moment" - with disorderly unwinding of the private sector and sovereign debt? What are the short and longer term implications of China's growing debt problems on domestic economic growth and the broader global political economy? What has Beijing done to ameliorate the problem, how effective were its efforts, and what must it do to deal with this problem?

  • This paper describes an efficient thresholding method for the binarization of a grey-level letter image. This method determines the adaptive threshold for letter image binarization by introducing the readjusting parameter, based on the global variance of the input image. Experimental results show that the proposed binarization method outperforms on the various letter images with a texture or noise when compared to the other methods.

  • Visualization of the homology information is an important method to analyze the evolutionary and functional meanings of genes. With a database containing model genomes of Homo sapiens, Mus muculus, and Rattus norvegicus, we constructed a webbased comparative analysis tool, BioCovi, to visualize the homology information of mammalian sequences on a very large scale. The user interface has several features: it marks regions whose identity is greater than that specified, it shows or hides gaps from the result of global sequence alignment, and it inverts the graph when total identity is higher than the threshold specified.

  • For a class of singularly perturbed uncertain system, an output feedback control law is designed. The controller structure is designed based on the uncertain reduced-order system, and the controller parameters are determined by information on the reduced-order and full-order systems. It has been shown that the reduces-order system with the designed controller possesses a stability property(specifically, a global uniform attractivity). Furthermore, the stability property of this control scheme is robust with respect to singular perturbation ; i.e., the full-order system, subject to the same controller, possesses the global uniform attractivity, provided the singular perturbation parameter $\mu<\mu^{*}$, where a threshold value $\mu^{*}$ can be computed from the information available on the full-order system.

  • This paper presents a new image segmentation method using fuzzy measures which reflect the local property of an image as well as the global property of an image An image is globally segmented into the crisp region and the ambiguous region in terms of the Index of fuzziness measured over all pixels of an image. The ambiguous region is luther partitioned into background and object in terms of the index of fuzziness computed over the set of neighboring pixels reflecting the local property most. From the experimental results, this method shows the effective ambiguity handling capability in segmenting an image.

  • A new modification of the SIS epidemic model incorporating the adaptive host behavior is proposed. Unlike the common situation in most epidemic models, this system has two disease-free equilibrium points, and we were able to prove that as the basic reproduction number approaches the threshold of 1, these two points merge and a Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation of codimension three occurs. The occurrence of this bifurcation is a sign of the complexity of the dynamics of the system near the value 1 of basic reproduction number. Both local and global stability of disease-free and endemic equilibrium point are studied.

  • The construction of a new cavern modifies the state of stresses and displacements in a zone around the existing cavern. For multiple caverns, the size of this influence zone depends on the ground type, the in situ stress, the cavern span and shape, the width of the pillar separating the caverns, and the excavation sequence. Performances of underground twin caverns can be unsatisfactory as a result of either instability (collapse) or excessive displacements. These two distinct failures should be prevented in design. This study simulated the ultimate and serviceability performances of underground twin rock caverns of various sizes and shapes. The global factor of safety is used as the criterion for determining the ultimate limit state and the calculated maximum displacement around the cavern opening is adopted as the serviceability limit state criterion. Based on the results of a series of numerical simulations, simple regression models were developed for estimating the global factor of safety and the maximum displacement, respectively. It was proposed that a proper pillar width can be determined based on the threshold influence factor value. In addition, design charts with regard to the selection of the pillar width for underground twin rock caverns under similar ground conditions were also developed.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method that is tracking an object in real time using particle filter and adaptive observation model. When tracking object, it happens object shape variation by camera or object movement in variety environments. The traditional method has an error of tracking from these variation, because it has fixed observation model about the selected object by the user in the initial frame. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a method that updates the observation model by calculating the similarity between the used observation model and the eight-way of edge model from the current position. If the similarity is higher than the threshold value, tracking the object using updated observation model to reset observation model. On the contrary to this, the algorithm which consists of a process is to maintain the used observation model. Finally, this paper demonstrates the performance of the stable tracking through comparison with the traditional method by using a number of experimental data.

  • $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS UHF RFID tag frontend is presented in this paper. Several key components are highlighted: the voltage multiplier based on the threshold voltage terminated circuit, the demodulator using current mode, and the clock generator. For standard compliance, all designed components are under the EPC Global Class-1 Generation-2 UHF RFID protocol. Backscatter modulation uses the pulse width modulation scheme. Overall performance of the proposed tag chip was verified with the evaluation board. Prototype Tag Chip dimension is neary 0.77mm2 ; According to the simulation results, the reader can successfully interrogate the tag within 1.5m. where the tag consumes the power about $71{\mu}W$.
