In this paper, a coil typed electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure to be inserted in the printed circuit board (PCB) inner layer in order to stabilize the PCB power line is proposed and implemented for global-navigation satellite service (GNSS) with the bandwidth from 1.55GHz to 1.81GHz. From the measurement result of the PCB board including EBG structure, the insertion loss(S21) was measured below about -50dB. From these results, it is expected that the stabilization of power delivery network (PDN) structure in the PCB circuit design should be improved and the preparation to EMI will be effective.
This paper presents the analysis results of navigation performance of Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS) test signals. Performance analysis was performed with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) signals received from 7 KASS reference stations. And the performances were analyzed in terms of the signal strength, statistics for each SBAS message, coverage of ionospheric correction, accuracy, integrity, continuity, and availability. In addition, the navigation solutions provided by commercial receiver was analyzed and the performance experienced by general users was presented. Lastly, directions for further improvement of the KASS system were addressed. These performance analysis results can be used to confirm the feasibility of utilizing KASS in user applications.

Globally, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is being developed and operated in advanced countries. China's Beidou is developing rapidly, starting with global positioning system (GPS), which is the most representative system. In this paper, we analyze the visibility of Beidou satellite in Korea at present time to utilize rapidly changing Beidou. In this analysis, it is compared with GPS which is stable service. The results of the visibility analysis are based on the results of the mask angle (the low elevation satellite exclusion angle) and the result of the skyplot (a visual representation of the position of the satellite at the user location). Visibility analysis shows that the high elevation angle of Beidou satellite is higher than that of GPS satellite in Korea. In addition, GPS and Beidou's availability and positioning accuracy analysis are performed to confirm the effect of increasing elevation angle satellites. According to the results, Beidou is more effective than GPS in using high elevation satellites in Korea.

The ionosphere acts as the largest error source in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal transmission. Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) is also easily affected by changes in the space environment, such as solar activity and geomagnetic storms. In this study, we analyze changes in the regional ionosphere using the Qusai-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), a regional satellite navigation system. Observations from 9 GNSS stations in South Korea are used for estimating the QZSS TEC. In addition, the performance of QZSS TEC is analyzed with observations from day of year (DOY) 199 to 206, 2023. To verify the performance of our results, we compare the estimated QZSS TEC and CODE Global Ionosphere Map (GIM) at the same location. Our results are in good agreement with the GIM product provided by the CODE over this period, with an averaged difference of approximately 0.1 TECU and a root mean square (RMS) value of 2.89 TECU.
Various structures of navigation messages in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals can be categorized into fixed, packetized, and mixed types, each with different broadcast intervals and sequences. In the fixed format, the broadcast intervals and sequences of navigation messages of Global Positioning System (GPS) L1 C/A and BDS B1I are strictly defined in the Interface Control Document (ICD). Navigation messages of GPS L2C, L5, Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) L2C, L5, and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) B1C are in a packetized format, and their broadcast sequence is not explicitly specified in the ICD; only the maximum broadcast intervals are described. In the mixed format, signals such as GPS L1C, QZSS L1 C/A, L1C, and BDS B2a exhibit both fixed and packetized patterns. Sequences of certain parts of the message are not defined. Therefore, in this study, experimental-based investigations were additionally conducted alongside an ICD investigation to analyze the current broadcast intervals and sequences of GNSS navigation messages.

To design a new Navigation Satellite System signal, we should analyze the influence of inter-system interference to existing Global Navigation Satellite Systems(GNSS). Various GNSS systems such as GSP, GALILEO, Compass use same frequence band and incur inter-system interference due to the overlapping spectrums. In this paper, we consider L2 Band for new Navigation Satellite System and propose the BOCcos(15,2.5) signal what has least Spectral Separation Coefficient with GPS L2 system. Assuming 4 stationary satellite over Korea, we simulate the effect of interference. As a result, proposed system shows very small mutual interference effect and negligible effective signal to noise ratio(SNR) loss, compared to the interferences between GNSS systems in L1 Band.
This paper presents a satellite relative navigation strategy for formation flying, which chooses an appropriate navigation algorithm according to the operating environment. Not only global positioning system (GPS) measurements, but laser measurements can also be utilized to determine the relative positions of satellites. Laser data is used solely or together with GPS measurements. Numerical simulations were conducted to compare the relative navigation algorithm using only laser data and laser data combined with GPS data. If an accurate direction of laser pointing is estimated, the relative position of satellites can be determined using only laser measurements. If not, the combined algorithm has better performance, and is irrelevant to the precision of the relative angle data between two satellites in spherical coordinates. Within 10 km relative distance between satellites, relative navigation using double difference GPS data makes more precise relative position estimation results. If the simulation results are applied to the relative navigation strategy, the proper algorithm can be chosen, and the relative position of satellites can be estimated precisely in changing mission environments.
This study developed an approach for improving Carrier-phase Differential Global Positioning System (CDGPS) based realtime satellite relative navigation by applying laser baseline measurement data. The robustness against the space operational environment was considered, and a Synthetic Wavelength Interferometer (SWI) algorithm based on a femtosecond laser measurement model was developed. The phase differences between two laser wavelengths were combined to measure precise distance. Generated laser data were used to improve estimation accuracy for the float ambiguity of CDGPS data. Relative navigation simulations in real-time were performed using the extended Kalman filter algorithm. The GPS and laser-combined relative navigation accuracy was compared with GPS-only relative navigation solutions to determine the impact of laser data on relative navigation. In numerical simulations, the success rate of integer ambiguity resolution increased when laser data was added to GPS data. The relative navigational errors also improved five-fold and two-fold, relative to the GPS-only error, for 250 m and 5 km initial relative distances, respectively. The methodology developed in this study is suitable for application to future satellite formation-flying missions.
The Chinese BeiDou Satellite Navigation System consists of three kinds of constellations: the geostationary Earth orbit (GEO), the inclined geosynchronous satellite orbit (IGSO), and the medium Earth orbit (MEO). The BeiDou has expanded its service coverage from regional to global. Recently, the BeiDou has been widely used in ionospheric total electron content (TEC) research. In this study, we analyzed the BeiDou signals for ionospheric TEC monitoring over Jeju Island in South Korea. The BeiDou GEO TEC showed a clear pattern of diurnal variations. In addition, we compared the TEC values from the BeiDou GEO, the BeiDou IGSO, GPS, and International GNSS Service (IGS) Global Ionosphere Maps (GIM). There was a difference of about 5 TEC units between the BeiDou GEO and the IGS GIM. This may be due to the altitude difference between the different navigation satellites.
The position accuracy of the stand-alone Regional Navigation Satellite System (RNSS) users is more than tens of meters because of various error sources in satellite navigation signals. This paper focuses on wide-area differential (WAD) positioning technique, which is already applied in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), in order to improve the position accuracy of RNSS users. According to the simulation results in the very narrow ground network in regional area, the horizontal position error of stand-alone RNSS is about RMS 11.6 m, and that of RNSS with WAD technique, named the WAD-RNSS, is about RMS 2.5 m. The accuracy performance has improved by about 78%.
