비디오 영상에서 통계적 영상특징에 의한 블록 모션 측정 (Statistical Image Feature Based Block Motion Estimation for Video Sequences)

  • 이 논문에서는 비디오 영상에서의 블록 모션 측정을 위한 통계학적인 특징에 기반 한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 우선 참조 블록의 통계학적인 특징을 구하고, 이를 참조 블록의 통계적 특징과 정규 시작점 패턴 (SPP) 에 퍼져 있는 블록에서의 특징을 비교하여, SPP에서의 시작점 (SP) 후보를 선택하는 데에 적용한다. 최종적인 SP 들은 SP 후보 들에서의 평균절대차이 (MAD) 값으로 구한다. 마지막으로 기존의 고속탐색 알고리즘인 BBG나 DS 그리고 TSS중 하나를 이용하여 참조블록의 모션 벡터를 최종 SP를 시작점으로 하여 계산하였다. 실험결과는 기대 했던 바와 같이 최종 SP로부터의 시작점들이 전역최소값 (global minimum)에 근접함을 보여 주었다.

Minimum stiffness of bracing for multi-column framed structures

  • A method that determines the minimum stiffness of baracing to achieve non-sway buckling conditions at a given story level of a multi-column elastic frame is proposed. Condensed equations that evaluate the required minimum stiffness of the lateral and torsional bracing are derived using the classical stability functions. The proposed method is applicable to elastic framed structures with rigid, semirigid, and simple connections. It is shown that the minimum stiffness of the bracing required by a multi-column system depends on: 1) the plan layout of the columns; 2) the variation in height and cross sectional properties among the columns; 3) the applied axial load pattern on the columns; 4) the lack of symmetry in the loading pattern, column layout, column sizes and heights that cause torsion-sway and its effects on the flexural bucking capacity; and 5) the flexural and torsional end restrains of the columns. The proposed method is limited to elastic framed structures with columns of doubly symmetrical cross section with their principal axes parallel to the global axes. However, it can be applied to inelastic structures when the nonlinear behavior is concentrated at the end connections. The effects of axial deformations in beams and columns are neglected. Three examples are presented in detail to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

한국의 주요 대도시에 대한 일 최고 및 최저 기온의 장기변동 경향과 건강에 미치는 영향 전망 (Long-term Trends of Daily Maximum and Minimum Temperatures for the Major Cities of South Korea and their Implications on Human Health)

  • Trends of daily maximum and minimum temperatures in major cities of South Korea (Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Daegu, and Ulsan) during the past 40 years (1961-2000) were investigated. Temperature records for the Chupungryeong station were compared with those of the large cities because of the rural environment of the station. There were distinct warming trends at all stations, although the warming rates depend on each station's local climate and environment. The warming rates in Korea are much greater than the global warming trends, by a factor of 3 to 4. The most increasing rate in daily maximum temperature was at Busan with $0.43^{\circ}C$ per decade, the most increasing rate in daily minimum temperature was at Daegu with $0.44^{\circ}C$ per decade. In general, the warming trends of the cities were most pronounced in winter season with an increasing rate of $0.5^{\circ}C$/decade at least. Diurnal temperature range shows positive or negative trends according to the regional climate and environmental change. The frequency distribution of the daily temperatures for the past 40 years at Seoul and Chupungryeong shows that there have been reductions in cold day frequencies at both stations. The results imply that the impacts on human health might be positive in winter and adverse in summer if the regional warming scenario by the current regional climate model reflects future climate change in Korea.

Background Level of Atmospheric Radon-222 Concentrations at Gosan Station, Jeju Island, Korea in 2011

  • Real-time monitoring of hourly atmospheric radon (Rn-222) concentration was performed throughout 2011 at Gosan station, Jeju Island, one of the least polluted regions in Korea, in order to characterize the background levels, and temporal variations on diurnal to seasonal time-scales. The annual mean radon concentration for 2011 was $2527{\pm}1356$ mBq $m^{-3}$, and the seasonal cycle was characterized by a broad winter maximum, and narrow summer minimum. Mean monthly radon concentrations, in descending order of magnitude, were Oct > Sep > Feb > Nov > Jan > Dec > Mar > Aug > Apr > Jun > May > Jul. The maximum monthly mean value (3595 mBq $m^{-3}$, October), exceeded the minimum value (1243 mBq $m^{-3}$, July), by almost a factor of three. Diurnal composite hourly concentrations increased throughout the night to reach their maximum (2956 mBq $m^{-3}$) at around 7 a.m., after which they decreased to their minimum value (2259 mBq $m^{-3}$) at around 3 p.m. Back trajectory analyses indicated that the highest radon events typically exhibited long-term continental fetch over Asia before arriving at Jeju. In contrast, low radon events were generally correlated with air mass fetch over the North Pacific Ocean. Radon concentrations typical of predominantly continental, and predominantly oceanic fetch, differed by a factor of 3.8.

배열 안테나 기반 GPS 수신기에서의 교정 방안 (A Calibration Technique for Array antenna based GPS Receivers)

  • 본 논문에서는 배열 안테나 기반의 MVDR (minimum variance distortionless response) 항 재밍 GPS (global positioning system) 수신기에서 안테나 경로 사이에 존재하는 이득, 위상, 지연 편차를 교정하기 위한 안테나 교정 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 다중 안테나 시스템에서 안테나 경로들 사이의 이득, 위상, 지연 편차를 추정하고 이를 보상한다. 경로 간 이득, 위상, 지연 편차를 정확히 추정하기 위해 좋은 상관 특성을 갖는 파일럿 신호가 사용된다. 교차 상관에 기반하여 지연 편차가 먼저 추정되며 이후에 이득과 위상 편차가 추정된다. 정밀한 지연 편차 추정 및 보상을 위해 보간기법을 사용하는데 이산 푸리에 변환 (DFT) 기반의 보간기법으로 계산 복잡도를 감소시킨다. 제안된 기법은 MATLAB을 이용한 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통해 검증한다. 모의실험 결과에 따르면 제안하는 기법을 적용하면 이득, 위상 시간 지연 편차를 각각 0.01 dB, 0.05 도, 0.5 ns 이내로 줄일 수 있다.

Plant Hardiness Zone Map in Korea and an Analysis of the Distribution of Evergreen Trees in Zone 7b

  • Background and objective: This study was conducted to establish a Plant Hardiness Zone (PHZ) map, investigate the effect of global warming on changes in PHZ, and elucidate the difference in the distribution of evergreen trees between the central and southern region within hardiness Zone 7b in Korea. Methods: Mean annual extreme minimum temperature (EMT) and related temperature fluctuation data for 40 years (1981 to 2020) in each of the meteorological observation points were extracted from the Open MET Data Portal of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Using EMT data from 60 meteorological observation points, PHZs were classified according to temperature range in the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map. Changes in PHZs for each decade related to the effects of global warming were analyzed. Temperature fluctuation before and after the day of EMT were analyzed for 4 areas of Seoul, Suwon, Suncheon, and Jinju falling under Zone 7b. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics and ANOVA were performed using the IBM SPSS 22 Statistics software package. Results: Plant hardiness zones in Korea ranged from 6a to 9b. Over four decades, changes to warmer PHZ occurred in 10 areas, especially in colder ones. Based on the analysis of daily temperature fluctuation, the duration of sub-zero temperatures was at least 2 days in Seoul and Suwon, while daily maximum temperatures were above zero in Suncheon and Jinju before and after EMT day. Conclusion: It was found that the duration of sub-zero temperatures in a given area is an important factor affecting the distribution of evergreen trees in PHZ 7b.

Characteristics on the Variations of the Total Ozone over Pohang (1994-2004) using the Brewer Spectrophotometer and TOMS

  • The characteristics of the total ozone variations measured by the ground-based Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) over Pohang are statistically examined from January 1994 to December 2004. First of all, in the correlation analysis of the total ozone measured from the Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the TOMS, the correlation coefficient was 0.88 and the used data were 2190. The annual mean value of the total ozone is 311 DU with the standard deviation of 13 DU. The maximum and the minimum value were found in March (343 DU) and in September (282 DU), respectively. It was also revealed that the longest seasonal variation is in Spring (341 DU) and the smallest is in Autumn (283 DU). The time series data of the total ozone indicates that the annual variation is significant and the variations for three months and six months are relatively weak. Finally, the annual mean total ozones in Pohang (Brewer), Seoul (Brewer) and Busan (TOMS) are 312 DU, 324 DU and 304 DU, respectively.

Generation of Klobuchar Coefficients for Ionospheric Error Simulation

  • An ionospheric error simulation is needed for creating precise Global Positioning System (GPS) signal using GPS simulator. In this paper we developed Klobuchar coefficients n ${\alpha}_n$ and ${\beta}_n$ (n = 1, 2, 3, 4) generation algorithms for simulator and verified accuracy of the algorithm. The algorithm extract those Klobuchar coefficients from broadcast (BRDC) messages provided by International GNSS Service during three years from 2006 through 2008 and curve-fit them with sinusoidal and linear functions or constant. The generated coefficients from our developed algorithms are referred to as MODL coefficients, while those coefficients from BRDC messages are named as BRDC coefficients. The maximum correlation coefficient between MODL and BRDC coefficients was found for ${\alpha}_2$ and the value was 0.94. On the other hand, the minimum correlation was 0.64 for the case of ${\alpha}_1$. We estimated vertical total electron content using the Klobuchar model with MODL coefficients, and compared the result with those from the BRDC model and global ionosphere maps. As a result, the maximum RMS was 3.92 and 7.90 TECU, respectively.

부산의 도시기후 변화 경향과 도시화 효과에 관한 연구 (Study on the Climate Change and the Urbanization Effect in Busan)

  • This study examines the climatological variability of urban area and the increase of temperature by urbanization using the observed data of Busan and Mokpo during the last 100 years (1910~2010). The results are as follows. First, the maximum temperature in Busan during the last 100 years has increased by $1.5^{\circ}C$ while average temperature and the minimum temperature have increased by $1.6^{\circ}C$ and $2^{\circ}C$. In Mokpo, the maximum temperature and average temperature have increased by $1^{\circ}C$ and the minimum temperature has increased by $0.8^{\circ}C$. The increase of urban temperature appeared to be higher in Busan than in Mokpo by $0.5^{\circ}C{\sim}1.2^{\circ}C$. Second, as for the change in temperature before and after urbanization, the maximum temperature, average temperature and the minimum temperature during last 50 years compared to the previous 50 years have increased about $1.5^{\circ}C$, $1.6^{\circ}C$ and $2.1^{\circ}C$, however, the predicted temperature after removing urbanization effect was estimated to be increased by $1^{\circ}C$. The proportion that urbanization takes on the overall increase of temperature appeared to be 33% at the maximum temperature, 37.5% at average temperature and 52.3% at the minimum temperature, thus the proportion of urbanization appeared to be maximized at the minimum temperature.

지난 반세기 동안 남한에서 관측된 1월 최저기온의 연차변이 (The Observed Change in Interannual Variations of January Minimum Temperature between 1951-1980 and 1971-2000 in South Korea)

  • 1월의 최저기온을 대상으로 1951년부터 2000년까지 14개 지점의 관측자료를 분석한 결과 11개 지점에서 전반기(1951-1980)에 비해 후반기(1971-2000)의 연차 변이가 오히려 감소한 것으로 나타났다 표준편차로 표현할 경우 제주, 전주, 울릉도를 제외한 나머지 11개 지점에서 많게는 0.35(서울)에서 적게는 0.03(강릉)까지 고르게 연차변이가 감소하였다. 이는 최근의 난동화 경향과 함께 겨울철 최저기온의 연차변이가 더 심해지고 있다는 당초의 예상과 다른 결과이다 연차변이의 공간분포양상은 최저기온의 절대값과 정의 상관을, 관측점의 해발고도와는 부의 상관을 보였다. 이 관계를 이용하여 남한전역의 1월 최저기온 30년 표준 편차 분포도를 작성하였으며, 이를 토대로 재현기간별로 기대되는 전국의 극최저기온 분포도를 제작하여 지역별 동해위험 평가에 이용토록 하였다.
