  • In this paper, we propose a new content-based color image retrieval algorithm. The algorithm makes use of two features; colors as global features and block classification results as local features. More specifically, we obtain R, G, B color histograms and classify nonoverlapping small image blocks into texture, monotone, and various edges, then using these histograms and classification results were make a similarity measure. Experimental results show that retrieval rate of the proposed algorithm is higher than the previous method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new image retrieval algorithm using the block classification. More specifically, we classify nonoverlappint small image blocks into texture, monotone, and various edges. Using these classification results and the RGB color histogram, we propose a new similarity measure which considers both local and global fretures. According to our experimental results using 232 color images, the retrieval efficiencies of the proposed and the previous methods were 0.610 and 0.522, respectively, which implies that the proposed algorithm yields better performance.

  • In this paper we present a color image segmentation algorithm based on statistical models. A novel deterministic annealing Expectation Maximization(EM) formula is derived to estimate the parameters of the Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM) which represents the multi-colored objects statistically. The experimental results show that the proposed deterministic annealing EM is a global optimal solution for the ML parameter estimation and the image field is segmented efficiently by using the parameter estimates.

  • Wavelet transform is not applicable to arbitrarily-shaped region (or object) in images, due to the nature of its global decomposition. In this paper, the arbitrarily-shaped wavelet transform(ASWT) is proposed in order to solve this problem and its properties are investigated. Computation complexity of the ASWT is also examined and it is shown that the ASWT requires significantly fewer computations than conventional wavelet transform, since the ASWT processes only the object region in the original image. Experimental resutls show that any arbitrarily-shaped image segment can be decomposed using the ASWT and perfectly reconstructed using the inverse ASWT.

  • In order to generate a photo-realistic synthesized image, we should reconstruct light environment by 3D analysis of scene. This paper presents a novel method for identifying the positions and characteristics of the lights-the global and local lights-in the real image, which are used to illuminate the synthetic objects. First, we generate High Dynamic Range(HDR) radiance map from omni-directional images taken by a digital camera with a fisheye lens. Then, the positions of the camera and light sources in the scene are identified automatically from the correspondences between images without a priori camera calibration. Types of the light sources are classified according to whether they illuminate the whole scene, and then we reconstruct 3D illumination environment. Experimental results showed that the proposed method with distributed ray tracing makes it possible to achieve photo-realistic image synthesis. It is expected that animators and lighting experts for the film and animation industry would benefit highly from it.

  • In the image captured by the camera in a moving vehicle, there exist various motions due to the change of background, motion of objects in the image that make difficult to extract a pure vibrational motion by the camera. In this paper, we suggest an image stabilization with the elimination of various motion components based on the classification of motions in the image by their characteristics. After the elimination of various local motions, images are compensated and stabilized with the global motion caused by the camera. Also, we suggest an accurate and fast image stabilization by excluding regions of little information based on block differences and edge densities.

  • Image data is mostly stored in compressed form because of its huge size. Therefore, a series of cumbersome procedures is required to apply a transformation to image data: decompression, extraction of spatial data, transformation and recompression. In this paper, we employ DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients to change the spatial presentation of images. DCT is commonly used in still image compression standards such as JPEG and moving picture compression standards such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.264. In this paper, we derived mathematically the relationship between the geometry transformation in the spatial domain and coefficient changes in the DCT domain and verified it with images in the JPEG file format. Because of the efficiency of transformation in the frequency domain, our findings can be utilized for light-weight partial image encryption for privacy data protection or entertainment contents protection.

  • DSC-HDTV image compression algorithm removes spatial, temporal, and amplitude redundancies of an image by using transform coding, motion-compensated predictive coding, and adaptive quantization, respectively. In this paper, leak processing method which is used to recover image quality quickly from scene change and transmission error and adaptive quantization using perceptual weighting factor obtained by HVS are proposed. Perceptual weighting factor is calculated by contrast sensitivity, spatio-temporal masking and frequency sensitivity. Adaptive quantization uses the perceptual weighting factor and global distortion level from buffer history state. Redundant bits according to adaptation of HVS are used for the next image coding. In the case of scene change, DFD using motion compensated predictive coding has high value, large bit rate and unstabilized buffer states since reconstructed image has large quantization noise. Thus, leak factor is set to 0 for scene change frame and leak factor to 15/16 for next frame, and global distortion level is calculated by using standard deviation. Experimental results show that image quality of the proposed method is recovered after several frames and then buffer status is stabilized.

  • This paper is to review how Korean trading companies perform and promote the digital transformation through the e-networking with global market, and how much they extend the volume of export, and make the company grow inward or outward in order to enhance the effects of economic growth in Korea. It is suggested that global agreement on e-Trade(or u-Trade) should be made in order to expand the global e-networking practices and to ensure transferring of transport documents(or business documents). Moreover, it also suggested that networking on the global trading partners such as government authorities, diplomatic offices abroad, overseas Koreans, students studying abroad, Korean merchants abroad, etc. should be made in single window for improving and upgrading the image of Korean trading companies. By making of global e-network platform between overseas business partners, trading companies are able to expect various synergy effects such as improving the satisfaction of their customers, promoting the global transactions, reducing the operation and transaction cost, helping fording overseas buyers, and extending export volume and sales profit, etc. Customers can also obtain the information about trading goods easily and rapidly, and cut down the transaction stage using information exchange with partners. All of the trading partners in the world can maintain their business partnership as long as they use the global e-network.

  • As more companies become interested in global markets, it has become crucial for firms to create globalized brands whose positioning, advertising strategy, personality, looks, and feel are consistent across nations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the global branding strategy of the Hyundai Motor Company (hereafter HMC) in order to show how the company processes its branding strategy. HMC, one of the leading global companies in the automobile industry, set up its brand identity as "Modern premium", in alignment with their new slogan "New Thinking New Possibilities", in 2011. The aim of the "Modern premium" concept was to provide consumers with new experiences and values beyond their expectations. HMC wanted their consumers to think of their cars as not only a medium of transportation but as a life space, where they can share experiences alongside HMC. In an effort to conduct consumer research in 5 different nations, HMC selected "brilliant" as a key communication concept. The word "brilliant" expresses the functional, experiential, and emotional dimensions of HMC. HMC furthermore chose "live brilliant" as a key campaign message in order to reinforce their communication concept. After this decision, the "live brilliant" campaign was exhibited through major broadcast channels around the world. The campaign was the company's first worldwide brand campaign, where a single message was applied to all major markets, with the goal of building up a consistent image as a global brand. This global branding strategy is worth examining due to its significant contribution to growth generation in the global market. Overall, the 'live brilliant' global brand campaign not only improved HMC's reputation image-wise, with the 'Modern Premium' conceptualization of the brand as 'simple', 'creative' and 'caring', but also improved the consumer's familiarity, preference and purchase intention of HMC. In fact, the "live brilliant" campaign was a successful campaign which increased HMC's brand value. Notably, HMC's brand value increased continuously and reached 9 billion US dollars in 2013, leading it to reach 43rd place in the Global Brand Rankings according to the brand consulting group Interbrand. Its brand value largely surpassed that of Nissan (65th) and Chevrolet (89th) in 2013. While it is true that the global branding strategy of HMC involved higher risks, it was highly successful according to cross-nation consumer research. Therefore, this paper concludes that the global branding strategy of HMC made a positive impact on its performance. We further suggest HMC to combine its successful marketing with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and embrace digital media by extending its brand communication horizon to the mobile internet
