Glass ceramics were made from coal bottom ash by adding CaO and $Li_2O$ as glass modifiers and $TiO_2$ as a nucleating agent in a process of melting and quenching followed by a thermal treatment. The surface of the glass ceramics has 1.6 times more $Li_2O$ compared to the inner matrix. When $TiO_2$ was not added or when only 2 wt% was added, the surface parts of the glass ceramics were crystalline with a thickness close to $130{\mu}m$. In addition, the matrixes showed only the glass phase and not the crystalline phase. However, doping of $TiO_2$ from 4 wt% to 10 wt% began to create small crystalline phases in the matrix with an increase in the quantity of the crystalline. The matrix microstructure of glass ceramics containing $TiO_2$ in excess of 8 wt% was a mixture of dark-gray crystalline and white crystalline parts. These two parts had no considerable difference in terms of composition. It was thought that the crystallization mechanism affects the crystal growth, direction and shape and rather than the existence of two types of crystals.
Chalcogenide glasses have been investigated in their thermodynamic, structural, and optical properties for application in various opto-electronic devices. In this study, the $Sb_{20}Se_{80-x}Ge_x$ with x = 10, 15, 20, and 25 were selected to investigate the glass stability according to germanium ratios. The thermal, structural, and optical properties of these glasses were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-Vis-IR Spectrophotometry, respectively. The DSC results revealed that $Ge_{20}Sb_{20}Se_{60}$ composition showing the best glass stability theoretically results due to a lower glass transition activation energy of 230 kJ/mol and higher crystallization activation energy of 260 kJ/mol. The structural and optical analyses of annealed thin films were carried out. The XRD analysis reveals obvious results associated with glass stabilities. The values of slope U, derived from optical analysis, offered information on the atomic and electronic configuration in Urbach tails, associated with the glass stability.

Recently, there has been growing interest in low loss and low dielectric constant material for LTCC application, as the frequency range for electronic devices increases. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of cordierite filler for low dielectric constant LTCC material. From the previous experiments, two glass compositions of B-Si-Al-Zn-Ba-Ca-O and B-Si-Al-Sr-Ca-O system, were chosen. Each powder of two glass compositions was sintered respectively with commercial cordierite powder in temperature range from $800^{\circ}C\;to\;900^{\circ}C$. Crystalline cordierite and glass peaks were affected only with two factors of composition and sintering temperature among various factors. With the optimized condition of two cordierite/glass compositions, obtained dielectric constant was below 5.5 and quality factor was above 1,000. Closed pore of sintered body was controled by sintering temperature and sintering time. When cordierite/glass composite with ratio of 5.5:4.5 was sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, densification was sufficient with good dielectric characteristics of ${\epsilon}_r<5.1,\;Q{\ge}1,000$. Residual fine closed pores could be reduced with control of sintering temperature and time. 3 point bending strength and chemical durability were evaluated to obtain feasibility for substrate material.

It is well known that monolithic glass has specific coincidence dip allowing transmittance of noise around the critical frequency. Laminated glass, made of a polyvinyle butyral(PVB) interlayer sandwiched by two panes of glass sheet, has long served for the advantage in noise attenuation properties as well as the safety purpose. More research on the improvement of sound insulation performance is needed, considering much of the noise is still transmitted through the glass. As a preliminary study, authors have made several test specimens, varied combinations of glass and interlayer film, to optimize the acoustic performance. Experimental investigation was carried out to study the sound transmission loss of test specimens in the reverberation chamber by using sound intensity method. Several new applications, instead of the existing PVB laminated glass, show better results in sound transmission loss and low temperature have a bad influence on the acoustic performance.
Dental ceramics have good aesthetics, biocompatibility, low thermal conductivity, abrasion resistance, and color stability. However poor resistance to fracture and shrinkage during firing process have been limiting factors in their use, particularly in multiunit ceramic restorations. A new method for making all-ceramic crowns that have high strength and low processing shrinkage has been developed and is referred to as the Vita In-Ceram method. This study was performed to investigate the effect of $CeO_2$ addition in borosilicate glasses on the strength of alumina-glass composites. Porous alumina compacts were prepared by slip casting and sintered at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Dense composites were made by infiltration of molten glass into partially sintered alumina at $1,140^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. Specimens were polished sequentially from #800 to #2000 diamond disk. and the final surface finishing on the tensile side was received an additional polishing sequence through $1{\mu}m$ diamond paste. Biaxial flexure test was conducted by using ball-on-three-ball method at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. To examine the microstructural aspect of crack propagation in the alumina-glass composites, Vickers-produced indentation crack was made on the tensile surface at a load of 98.0 N and dwell time of 15 sec, and the radial crack patterns were examined by an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The porosity rates of partially sintered alumina decreased with the rising of firing temperature. 2. The maximum biaxial flexure strength of 423.5MPa in alumina-glass composites was obtained with an addition of 3 mol% $CeO_2$ in glass composition and strength values showed the aspect of decrease with the increase of $CeO_2$ content. 3 The biaxial flexure strength values of alumina-glass composites were decreased with rising the firing temperature. 4. Observation of the fracture surfaces of alumina-glass composites indicated that the enhancement of strength in alumina-glass composites was due to the frictional or geometrical inter-locking of rough fracture surfaces and ligamentary bridging by intact islands of materials left behind the fracture front.

Opal glass samples having different chemical compositions were synthesized and transparent glass was obtained after melting. The effects of $TiO_2$, $BaF_2$, and $CeO_2$ content on the color of the opal glass were studied by observing images of the opal samples and analyzing the results via ultraviolet visible spectroscopy and color spectrometry. The aesthetic properties of the opal glass were determined by studying the transmittance of visible light in the 400 nm to 700 nm range. The basic chemical composition of opal glass was $SiO_2$ 52.9 wt%, $Al_2O_3$ 12.35 wt%, $Na_2CO_3$ 15.08 wt%, $K_2CO_3$ 10.35 wt%, $Ca_3(PO)_4$ 4.41 wt%, $MgCO_3$ 1.844 wt%, $LiCO_3$ 2.184 wt%, and $TiO_2$ 0.882 wt%. The glass samples were prepared by varying the weight percentage of $TiO_2$, $BaF_2$, and $CeO_2$. The transmittance of visible light was decreased from 95 % to 75 % in the glass samples in which $TiO_2$ content was increased from 0 to 3.882 wt%. In the blue spectrum region, as the content of $TiO_2$ increased, the reflectance value was observed to become higher. This implies that $TiO_2$ content induces more crystal formation and has an important effect on the optical properties of the glass. The opalescence of opal samples that contained $CeO_2$ or $BaF_2$ is stronger than that in the samples containing $TiO_2$. Opal glass samples comprising $TiO_2$ had tetragonal lattice structures; samples including $CeO_2$ as an additive had cubic lattice structures (FCC, $CeO_2$).
E (Electric) -glass fibers are the most widely used glass fibers, taking up 90 % of the long glass fiber market. However, very few papers have appeared on the physical characteristics of E-glass fibers and how they depend on the fiberizing temperature of fiber spinning. Glass fiber was fabricated via continuous spinning process using bulk E-glass. In order to fabricate the E-glass specimen, raw materials were put into a Pt crucible and melted at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs; mixture was then annealed at $621{\pm}10^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs. The transmittance and adaptable temperature for spinning of the bulk marble glass were characterized using a UV-visible spectrometer and a viscometer. Continuous spinning was carried out using direct melting spinning equipment as a function of the fiberizing temperature in the range of $1175{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$, while the winder speed was fixed at 500 rpm. Subsequently we investigated the physical properties of the E-glass fiber. The average diameter of the synthesized glass fiber was measured by optical microscope. The mechanical properties of the fiber were confirmed using a UTM (universal materials testing machine); the maximum tensile strength was measured and found to be $1843{\pm}449MPa$ at $1225^{\circ}C$.

Instead of a solution process producing amorphous $LiV_3O_8$ form, we prepared Lithium vanadate glass by melting $Li_2O-P_2O_5-V_2O_5$ and $Li_2O-P_2O_5-Bi_2O_3-V_2O_5$ composition in pt. crucible and by quenching on the copper plate. From the crystallization of $Li_2O-P_2O_5-V_2O_5$ and $Li_2O-P_2O_5-Bi_2O_3-V_2O_5$, we could abtain glass-ceramics having crystal phase, LiV3O8 from glass matrix. The material heat-treated at lower-temperature, $250^{\circ}C$ had less crystalline and lower capacity, But the material heat-treadted at higher-temperature, $330^{\circ}C$ had higher capacity and $Li_2O-P_2O_5-V_2O_5$ glass-ceramics had higher capacity than $Li_2O-P_2O_5-Bi_2O_3-V_2O_5$ glass-ceramics.

Recently, the use of ion-exchange strengthened glass has increased sharply, as it is now used as the cover glass for smart phone devices. Therefore, many researchers are focusing on methods that can be used to strengthen ion-exchange glass. However, research on how the improved strength can be maintained under thermal environment of device manufacturing is still insufficient. We tested the degradation of the characteristics of ion-exchange soda-lime glass samples, including their surface compressive stress characteristics, the depth of the ion-exchange layer (DOL), flexural strength, hardness, and modulus of rupture (MOR) values. Degradation of the characteristics of the ion-exchange glass samples occurred when they were heat-treated at a temperature that exceeded $350^{\circ}C$.

The effect of several $SiO_2-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-R(R;Ca, Sr, Ba) borosilicate glass system on sintering behavior, dielectric properties and mechanical properties of glass/ceramic composites were investigated. The amount of '+2 valency' metal elements(Ca, Sr, Ba) were examined in LTCC composite of low k glass with cordierite filler. It was sintered for 60minutes in temperature range from 850C to 950. Properties of frit and glass/ceramic composites were analyzed by DTA, XRD, SEM, Network Analyzer, UTM and so on. Dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$) and $Q{\times}f_0$ (Q) of the composite with 50% glass contents demonstrated $\varepsilon_r$ = 5.4 $Q{\times}f_0$ = 1600 GHz. Sintering was complete and maximum bending strength of 160MPa was obtained.
