낙지 Octopus minor 수컷 생식기관의 미세해부학적 구조 (Microscopic Anatomy of Male Reproductive Organ in the Long Arm Octopus Octopus minor (Cephalopoda: Octopodidae))

  • 본 연구는 낙지의 생식생태 이해에 필요한 수컷 생식기관과 정포의 미세해부학적 구조를 기재하였다. 낙지는 교접완의 유무를 통하여 성을 구별할 수 있는 성적이형을 갖는 종이다. 수컷 생식기관은 정소, 일차수정관, 저정낭, 이차수정관, 정포선, 정포낭으로 구성된다. 정소는 조직학적으로 정세관형이었으며, 수컷 생식세포들은 층상배열상을 보였다. 일차수정관은 정소와 저정낭을 연결하는 관으로 상피층과 결합조직으로 이루어져 있었다. 저정낭은 일차수정관과 이차수정관의 사이에 위치하며, 상피층은 상피세포와 점액세포로 구성된다. 점액세포는 AB-PAS (pH 2.5) 반응에서 푸른색, AF-AB (pH 2.5) 반응에서 보라색으로 반응하였다. 이차수정관은 저정낭과 정포선을 연결하는 짧은 관으로 내강에 주름이 발달하였다. 정포선은 다수의 관상선으로 이루어져 있었으며, 분비세포는 호산성 과립을 가지고 있었다. 정포낭은 주머니 모양으로 내강에 주름이 발달하였으며, 상피층에 공포상의 분비세포가 존재하였다. 정포는 길이 약 83.5 mm로 전방부의 당김사, 중간부의 발사체와 고정체, 후방부의 정자 저장부로 구성되어 있었다.

백서악하선적출이 갑상선에 미치는 영향

  • It has been said that thyroid gland controls the function of salivary gland and vice versa. In an attempt to investigate the role of submaxillary gland on the function of thyroid gland, the authors have observed the changes of thyroid gland histologically and histochemically at 70 days after removal of submaxillary gland in rats. The results are as follows: 1. There are no significant changes of thyroid cells after submaxillary gland removal. 2. The colloidal concentration of thyroid follicles is markedly decreased after submaxillary gland removal. 3. The colloids of thyroid follicles show intensive reaction to PAS staining in intact rats, but moderate or minimal reaction in submaxillary removal rats.

  • 물두꺼비의 (Bufo stjnegeri Schmidt) 피부 과립선의 미세구조 및 분비과립의 형성과정을 광학 및 전자현미경으로 고나찰하였다. 과립선은 선강이 진피에 있고 선분비선이 표비와 연결되어 체외로 개구된 단포상선으로서 외부의 근상표피층과 내부의 선상표피층 이외에 세포연접장치가 발달된 다른 한 종류의 세포집단이 분비관 근처로 분포하고 있었다. 선상피세포는 세포간의 경계가 없는 다핵성 단세포의 형태로 관찰되었으며, 세포질내에는 방분분비에 의해 체외로 방출되는 과립성 분비물질들이 치밀하게 집적되어 있었다. 한겹의 한계막에 의해 둘러싸인 이 과립들은 선상세포의 기저부에 분포하는 활면소포체로부터 기원하며 형성단계에 따라 4종의 과립형이 구분되었다.

Two Sjogren syndrome-associated oral bacteria, Prevotella melaninogenica and Rothia mucilaginosa, induce the upregulation of major histocompatibility complex class I and hypoxia-associated cell death, respectively, in human salivary gland cells

  • Despite evidence that bacteria-sensing Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are activated in salivary gland tissues of Sjogren syndrome (SS) patients, the role of oral bacteria in SS etiopathogenesis is unclear. We previously reported that two SS-associated oral bacteria, Prevotella melaninogenica (Pm) and Rothia mucilagenosa (Rm), oppositely regulate the expression of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) in human salivary gland (HSG) cells. Here, we elucidated the mechanisms underlying the differential regulation of MHC I expression by these bacteria. The ability of Pm and Rm to activate TLR2, TLR4, and TLR9 was examined using TLR reporter cells. HSG cells were stimulated by the TLR ligands, Pm, and Rm. The levels of MHC I expression, bacterial invasion, and viability of HSG cells were examined by flow cytometry. The hypoxic status of HSG cells was examined using Hypoxia Green. HSG cells upregulated MHC I expression in response to TLR2, TLR4, and TLR9 activation. Both Pm and Rm activated TLR2 and TLR9 but not TLR4. Rm-induced downregulation of MHC I strongly correlated with bacterial invasion and cell death. Rm-induced cell death was not rescued by inhibitors of the diverse cell death pathways but was associated with hypoxia. In conclusion, Pm upregulated MHC I likely through TLR2 and TLR9 activation, while Rm-induced hypoxia-associated cell death and the downregulation of MHC I, despite its ability to activate TLR2 and TLR9. These findings may provide new insight into how oral dysbiosis can contribute to salivary gland tissue damage in SS.

  • To evaluate the diagnostic findings of salivary gland tumors, we reexamined aspiration cytology smears of 7 cases of pleomorphic adenoma, 3 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma, and 3 cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, performed during April 1986 to March 1990, which were comfirmed by surgical excision and histologic diagnosis. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. All cases of pleomorphic adenoma showed branching cellular clusters of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Acellular elements including myxomatous and chondroid components were observed. There were no cellular pleomorphism and nucleoli. Keratinizing squamous epithelial cells and keratin pearls were noted. 2. The smears of adenoid cystic carcinoma showed cell bails or cell cords containing a central hyaline core. Nuclear atypism and the nucleoli were frequently observed. There were no keratinizing squamous epithelial cells. 3. The smears of mucoepidermoid carcinoma showed mainly sheets or clusters of intermediate cells and some mucin-producing cells. Some nuclear pleomorphism was observed. Mucinous material and many inflammatory cells were present in the background.

개의 좌측후흉측 유선에 발생한 악성혼합유선종양의 발생례 (A Case Report of Malignant Mixed Mammary Tumor in Left Caudal Thoracic Mammary Gland of a Dog)

  • In a 10-year old mixed dog, a $10{\times}10{\times}4$ cm mass was palpated around the left caudal thoracic mammary gland with abdomen expension. In hormonal assay, serum concentrate of progesterone was 0 pg/ml and serum concentrate of estradiol was 66.7 pg/ml. Radiological finding of the mammary gland showed higher density than that of soft tissue and ultrasonographic finding showed inhomogeneous in echogenicity. Light microscopic view of mammary gland showed neoplastic hyperplasia of epithelial and myoepithelial cells and showed some metaplastic lesion of these cells to cartilage or bone tissues with metastasis to the lung. This case was diagnosed as malignant mixed mammary tumor.

  • The author has studied the histochemical changes on rat submaxillary gland histological changes on rat periodontium after administration of isoproterenol. The results are as follows: 1) After administration of isoproterenol, the rat submaxillary glands weight of the first and second group were increased two times compared with control group. 2) The acinar cells of rat submaxillary gland were shown the hypertrophy and enlargement. 3) The PAS staining reaction of the acinar cells of rat submaxillary gland were shown the strong positive reaction. 4) The blood vessels of rat periodontium were dilated and alveolar bone resorption was occurred.

귀지선 종양 증례 1 (Ceruminous Gland Tumor in a Dog)

  • A 9-year-old male Yorkshire terrior with recurrent chronic otitis externa and otitis interna was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Radiographic findings indicated mineralization around the right ear canal. A tan nodular mats, 1 cm in diameter. was noted near the tympanum after total ear canal ablation. Cytologically. the imprint smear of the cut surface of the mass produced clusters of cells with abundant and weakly basophilic cytoplasm, one small round nucleus and one or two nucleoli, mixed with both degenerate and non degenerate neutrophils. The location of the nuclei was eccentric, and some cells contained somewhat coarse black granules in their cytoplasms, on which the mass was diagnoted as ceruminous gland adenoma or hyperplasia associated with inflammation. Histopathologic examination of the tumor was compatible with a diagnosit of ceruminous gland adenoma. The patient is responding well to sugery and antimicrobial treatment.

  • Objectives: Salivary gland tumors pose considerable difficulty in diagnostic and prognostic assessment based on the histopathologic features alone. We studied the expression of type IV collagen and fibronectin in salivary gland tumors with special emphasis on the differential diagnostic significance. Materials and Methods: We did immunohistochemical stain on paraffin embedded tissues of 33 benign and 24 malignant salivary gland tumors using monoclonal antibody for type IV collagen and polyclonal antibody for fibronectin. Results: 1) Well preserved linear basement membrane-like staining of type IV collagen was detected in duct-cell-derived benign salivary gland tumors. But pleomorphic adenoma exhibited a heterogeneous pattern as focal augmentation and interruption. 2) In malignant tumors, type IV collagen was distributed in an irregular, interrupted manner or completely absent. Adenoid cystic carcinomas displayed a marked staining of the basal membrane associated substances in the pseudocysts. 3) The staining pattern of fibronectin was similar to that of type IV collagen execpt more dense in the stroma. 4) Salivary gland tumors which have a prominent myoepithelial cell component revealed a particular deposition of basement membrane materials adjacent to the myoepithelial cells. Conclusion: The study of the basal membrane substances may be helpful for differential diagnosis of benign and malignant salivary gland tumors and identifying special features of salivary gland tumors such as pseudocystic pattern of adenoid cystic carcinoma. Also we think that the myoepithelial cells contribute to the formation of basement membrane materials.

  • In order to observe the time of the first appearance of Bowie positive pepsinogen granules in the gland cells of the chicken proventriculus, histological examination was performed on the chicken embryo proventriculus at 7, 10, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21 days postincubation. The first appearance of Bowie positive pepsinogen granules in the gland cells of the chicken proventriculus was at 21 days postincubation.
