  • In this study is aerial photos and UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) images were used to analyzed the characteristics of depositional landform changes in the Geum river channels before and after the opening gate of Gongju weir. Based on the depositional landform classification result, the main stream and the bare land occupied most of the area in all periods, and also found that the main stream, mid-channel island, and sand bar occupied a greater degree of area increase or decrease compared to other landforms in the classification items. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of depositional landform changes before and after the opening gate of Gongju weir, it is judged that the depositional landforms have changed due to the decreased water level of the Geum river after the opening of the weir, the summer rainy season and typhoons, river stabilization after the effluence of Daecheong dam, supply and deposition of river sediments and fixation of vegetation. The results derived from this study can be used as basic data for the study of river depositional landforms and the establishment of management and conservation plans for the landforms in river channels.

  • This study was to analyze fish composition and ecological indicator characteristics from eight sampling sites of Geum River, October 2007. Total number of family and species sampled were 9 and 40. The most dominant family was Cyprinidae (27 species, 85%), and then followed by Cobitidae, Odomtobutidae, and Gobiidae. Constancy values of Zacco platypus and Zacco temminckii were 1.00 and 0.30, respectively, and the relative abundance of Acheilognathus koreensis and Pseudogobio esocinus were greater than 5% of the total. The number of Korean endemic species sampled in this Geum River study was 7 family 19 species, which is 47.5% of total 40 species, and endangered species of Pseudopungtungia nigra and Gobiobotia brevibarba were only 0.5% of the total and these species were only distributed within the upstream regions. Exotic species, Micropterus salmoides, which is known as large-mouth bass, were observed in two sites of G3 and G7. Analytical results of fish community showed that community dominance index was 0.19, which is low, and the species evenness index (0.74), diversity index (2.03), and richness index (3.00) appeared high. These results indicate that structure of fish community is stable in the Geum River. According to various guilds analysis, the relative abundance of tolerant and omnivores at all sites were 40% and 47% of the total, respectively. This monitoring data may contribute changes of fish fauna and compositions in relation to habitat modifications and chemical water quality degradations in the future.

  • The purpose of the study is to establish a plan for the development of digital person archives with the case of Geum-nam Kim, the third-generation head of the Christian Donggwangwon Monastery Society. The step-by-step strategy for building digital character archives for Geum-nam Kim is as follows. 1)The reason and expected effect of the character selection are analyzed. Since he was a survivor, he has recorded and typed his life history through several interviews. Considering that the memory of Geum-nam Kim, who is over 90 years old, could be mixed up in the time of the incident, the advice of Sister Donggwangwon and Maj. Gen. Gyuillwon, the lower unit of Donggwangwon, was obtained and verified for accuracy. 2)The contents of the records and the place of collection were identified, and the total content composition(proposal) was presented by reclassifying and relocating the records identified records. The entire contents are divided into recorded contents and explanatory contents, so that they can be linked to each area and collection.

  • This study aims to find out critical areas of a soil loss and propose feasible measures to reduce the water quality deterioration by a soil lose. As a study area, the So-ok stream catchment locating at the upper area of Daecheong Reservoir is selected and intensive field observation was carried out. RUSLE model is applied to assess the impact of the pollution migration by a soil ross from the critical areas during storms on the water quality of Chusori embayment. As results, total amount of the soil ross assessed against to the critical area on which major type of land use is a orchard for fruits is 54.3 ton/ha/yr and that of an abandoned mine site is about 200 ton/ha/year. In particular as effective measures, a plantation of an appropriate species of fruit trees and an application of ecologic restoration schemes are proposed against to the orchard and the abandoned mine site, respectively.

  • The new system evaluating the pollution of the water quality for the branches of geum river using the fuzzy integral was proposed in this study. In this paper, the five individual factors, such as BOD(biochemical oxygen demand), COD(chemical oxygen demand), SS(suspended solids), T-N(total nitrogen), and T-P(total phosphorus) are selected. The measurement of fuzzy integral was determined depending on the degree of how they affect the pollution of water quality. The real values for the five factors measured and obtained from the branches of the geum river was normalized to ranging from 0 to 1. Finally, using the fuzzy integral, the degree of the pollution for the branches of geum river was expressed as the real numerical number. As a result, it appears that this approach can be proposed as the new system evaluating the pollution of the water quality for the branches of the geum river.

  • This study reports the serial use of a 3-D hydrodynamic model, EFDC-Hydro and a dynamic water quality model WASP7.2 that are maintained by USEPA. The 48 km section of the Geum River downstream between Daechung Dam and Gongju was selected as a sample study site. Topographical information was used to accurately represent morphology of the study site and boundary conditions were derived from governmental databases including WAMIS by Ministry of Land and Ocean and WEIS by Ministry of Environment. EFDC-Hydro was successfully calibrated for observed water level and WASP was calibrated using monthly observed water quality data obtained from the above sources. It was found that the current water quality target of BOD for the Geum River-H point could not be met on monthly basis though every other tributary of the area would meet its own water quality target as assigned in Korean TMDL. This study proposed the new target BOD water quality for the Gabcheon and Mihocheon as 4.3 and 3.6 mg/l, respectively so that the Geum River-H point can meet the target. When Sejong City is constructed, it is estimated that effluent discharge limit of BOD must be less than 4.5 mg/l to meet water quality of the point. This study shows that it is possible to carry out more precise modeling considering both water movement and water kinetics by using EFDC and WASP simultaneously.

  • Hwangnamdaechong Tomb (The 98th tomb in Hwangnam-dong), one of the royal tombs located around the area of royal tomb of King Michu in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, is currently designated as Historic Site No. 40. It is assumed that Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is a royal tomb of the early 5th century. This study aims to examine the fabric relics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb and currently housed in Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. The types of fabrics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb include plain silk, warp-faced compound woven silk, and hemp cloth. Most of these fabrics are adhered to metal products that became rusty. Plain silk found in Hwangnamdaechong Tomb can be divided into four types by its weaving method. Geum excavated from Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is typical Gyeong Geum that uses colored warp for its base and pattern. It is plain Gyeong Geum that the binding weft and warp is plain woven. Although there are a lot of Gyeong Geum fabrics whose colors are hard to define due to yellowing after long years, there are still many fabrics whose color such as purple, red, blue, and green can be identified. As literatures have shown that p cloth as well as silk were frequently woven during Silla dynasty, tremendous amount of hemp cloth was excavated. Most of the hemp cloth has S-twist in the warp and 8-12 seung degree of delicacy.

  • The infection status of zoonotic trematode metacercariae (ZTM) was surveyed in freshwater fishes from the water systems of Geum-gang (River) in the Republic of Korea (Korea). A total of 1,161 freshwater fishes from 6 local sites of Geum-gang were examined with the artificial digestion method for 4 years (2012-2015). Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae were detected in 122 (37.2%) out of 328 fishes in the positive fish species from 4 surveyed areas, and their mean intensity was 43 per fish infected. Metagonimus spp. metacercariae were found in 432 (51.7%) out of 835 fishes in the positive fish species from all 6 surveyed areas, and their mean intensity was 30 per fish infected. Centrocestus armatus metacercariae were detected in 285 (75.0%) out of 380 fishes in the positive fish species from 6 surveyed areas, and their mean intensity was 2,100 per fish infected. Echinostoma spp. metacercariae were found in 56 (19.7%) out of 284 fishes in the positive fish species from 5 surveyed areas, and their mean intensity was 10 per fish infected. Clinostomum complanatum metacercariae were detected in 98 (57.3%) out of 171 fishes in the positive fish species from only 2 surveyed areas, and their mean intensity was 11 per fish infected. Conclusively, the endemicity of ZTM is not so high in fishes from water systems of Geum-gang in Korea although it is more or less different by fish species, surveyed areas and ZTM species.

  • The five viscera[五藏], one of the key concepts from Traditional Oriental Medicine in understanding the nature of human body, endows the characteristic of five phases[五行] on the five representative organs, based on the five phases theory[五行論]. Although the theory from "Geummun-Sangseo(今文尙書)" which states the order of 'liver-mok[肝木] heart-hwa[心火] pancreas-to[脾土] lung-geum[肺金] kidney-su[腎水]' is now widely approved by present-day academics concerning arrangement of five changes and the five viscera, there are some other less-known theories of arrangement. "Gomun-Sangseo[古文尙書]" had suggested the order of 'pancreas-mok[脾木] lung-hwa[肺火] heart-to[心土] liver-geum[肝金] kidney-su[腎水]', which was never practiced, and "Dong-uisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)" of Ijema(李濟馬) expressed the theory of 'lung-mok[肺木] pancreas-hwa[脾火] heart-to[心土] liver-geum[肝金] kidney-su[腎水]'.
