  • The result of an investigation conducted to study the effect of crude oil contamination on the geotechnical properties of sand is presented. The effect of the degree of oil contamination on compaction charateristics, shear strength, and one-dimensional compression charateristics has been investigated. The test results indicate that the compaction charateristics are somewhat influenced by oil contamination The angle friction of sand (based on total stress basis) decreases due to the presence of oil within the pore spaces in sand. The compression charateristics of sand are significantly influenced by oil contamination. The details of the tests conducted and the results are presented in the paper.

  • Corestone ground mass has complicated characteristics as it is made up of hard and stiff corestone in a relatively weak and soft matrix. Model corestone ground mass whichis physically identical with the stiff corestone in weak matrix were tested in uniaxial compression. The tests showthat the increase of the corestone proportion brought the gradual increase of the elastic modulus as well. The ground mass was weaker when the corestone proportion was low while it was stronger in higher corestone proportion. The size of the corestone had no influence on the strength and elastic modulus as long as the proportion of the corestone remains same.

  • As piling works in urban area increasing, SIP which is low noise & vibration piling method is taking place of driven pile which has good bearing charateristics and economics. Since SIP has been used for more than 15 years and it's application is increasing year by year, however, accurate analysis of bearing mechanism of SIP is not enough. So the design of SIP is much more conservative than driven pile. This paper is aimed to analyse the bearing charateristics of 103 SIPs constructed in Korea to give rational design criteria. Research result shows that bearing capacity of SIP is 40% lower than that of driven pile and conservative Meyerhof(equation omitted) method produced closer result to load test results than other design method. And this result show that to use optimised design criteria for the economic SIP design, quality control criteria must be settled down to produce high in-situ bearing capacity.

  • Earth structures which located on the weak foundation settle for the long time due to the their own weight (embankment) simultaneously. Because of the consolidation and creep which are timedependent behaviour. This paper is presented creep test Processes using triaxial spparatus, and investigated creep charateristics of marine clay by creep test according to stress level And required and appropriate creep parameters of soil used in the creep equation are investigated by the creep test.

  • Undrained shear strength of clay deposit is one of the most important properties in the design of geotechnical structures. The use of piezocone test is rapidly growing due to its merit that can measure the in-situ undrained shear strength continuously with less error. The reliability of the shear strength from piezocone test depends upon the cone factor applied. Many researchers have suggested different ranges of values for the factors. This study performs to find out the validity of the suggested values in Korea and their charateristics related to the mechanical properties of clay. Piezocone tests were performed at the site of pilot project of ground improvement at Yangsan-Mulgeum Gyeongnam to investigate the charateristics of piezocone factors. The piezocone fators$(N_{kt}, N_{ke}, N_{\Delta u})$ based on the undrained shear strength from quick triaxial compression test are generally within the suggested range. And there appears considerable relations between undrained shear strength and $(N_{kt}, N_{ke}, N_{\Delta u})$ and between preconsolidation pressure and $(N_{kt}, N_{ke})$, while plasticity index, rigidity index and friction ratio do not show any relations with cone factors. The results also reveal that factor $(N_{\Delta u})$ shows higher reliability than factors $(N_{kt} and N_{ke})$, which show smaller standard deviation, breadth of change and scattering.

  • The collapse of the cut slope occurs owing to mixed effect of many variable factors such as geological, geographic, and hydraulic factors. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to evaluate the influence of the complicated geological factors on the stability of the cut slope during various management stages. This study proposes a management plan for domestic cut slope for a series of the rock masses, based on the collapse charateristics of various rock masses and management case studies.

  • In this study, the clay samples collected in the area Mokpo carry out laboratory soil test. Under three different curing $temperature-20^{\circ}C,\;50^{\circ}C,\;80^{\circ}C$ and 4 terms of curing day -1day, 7days, 14days, 40days for each, the remolded and reconsolidated samples had been made. To find out an aging effects and geotechnical characteristics between undisturbed samples and reconsolidated samples, laboratory tests were preformed. In the results, it was found that mechanical properties of undisturbed natural samples were similar to high temperature reconsolidation clay. The curing temperature influence on simulating aging effect more than the curing day does and the best curing condition are $80^{\circ}C$, 27days.
