  • This study was carried out to effectively perform relative color correction for high-resolution aerial ortho image. For this study, relative geometrical error between adjacent images was analyzed. The block sum method is proposed to reduce the relative geometrical error. We used the regression coefficients determined based on the block sum size to perform the color correction. As a result, it was confirmed that the relative color correction was visually performed well. Quantitative analysis was performed through histogram similarity analysis. It is proved that block sum method is useful for relative color correction. Particularly, the block sum size was very important to correct color based on the amount of relative geometrical error.

  • Image correction of the fluorescein angiogram with the low contrast and geometrically distorted is studied. The procedure is divided into two steps : A template matching step and a geometrical transformation step. Based on the sequential similiarity detection algorithm, more Improved matching results are obtained with edge enhanced image. For the reference points and the corresponding matchimg points, the geometrical transformationss by the use of the average value of the X, Y translational shifts and a pair of these points, respectively are described. Then the corrected images are obtained using bilinear interpolation. It is proven that the usefullness of this study for the image correction of the ocular fundus fluoresceln angiogram with low contrast and geometrically distorted mainly due to the eye movements.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the importance of the image distortion correction in the cross sectional area measurement for the iliopsas muscle, tensor fasciae latae muscle, gluteus maximus muscle and the knee extensor muscles, by using (magnetic resonance imaging) MRI. Methods: This study was performed using an open 0.32T MRI system. To estimate the image distortion, T1 images for an AAPM homogeneity/linearity phantom were acquired, and the region in which the maximum geometric distortion was less than or equal to the pixel size (1.6 mm) of the images, it was defined as the distortion correction-free region. The T2 images for a human subject's pelvis and thigh in normal positions were obtained. Then, after the regions of interest in the pelvis and thigh were moved into the distortion correction-free region, T2 images for the pelvis and thigh were scanned with the same imaging parameters used in the previous T2 imaging. The cross-sectional areas were measured in the two T2 images that were obtained in the normal position, and the distortion correction-free region, as well as the area error caused by geometric image distortion was calculated. Results: The geometrical distortion is gradually increased, from the magnet center to the outer region, in axial and coronal plane. The cross-sectional area error of gluteus maximus muscle and the knee extensors was as high as 9.27% and 3.16% in before and after distortion correction, respectively. Conclusion: The cross-sectional area of the muscles that suffered from the geometrical distortion is necessary to correct for the estimation of the intervention.

  • The images of the meteorological satellite NOAA contain geometrical distortions caused by its ambiguous position, its vibration, its sensor's movement, and so on. Geometric correction of satellite images is one of the most important parts in many remote sensing as the primary processing. Ground control points (GCP's) are necessary to check the accuracy of geometric correction and used for precise geometric correction. In this paper, a method for automatically selecting the residual error is presented. Calculating the effective angle and residual errors vector using the succeeded matching GCP's, precise geometric correction using an affine transformation is applied to systematically a corrected image. And the error is decreased by an affine transformation. The above enable the geometric correction of high quality.

  • In this paper, a new technique and theory are proposed which correct the orientation (inclination of a vertical axis) of a cylinder in vertical-micro positioning device. An algorithm for determining the orientation of the cylinder with a pair of displacement sensor units is derived and two types of the correction methods are described. To assess the performance and efficiency of the developed correction technique, the compensation errors originated from the correction algorithm and the machined characteristics of cylinder surface are evaluated from the geometrical considerations and the statistical techniques. Based upon the evaluation results, the maximum compensation error is estimated for the orientation of cylinder and the optimum correction technique is derived.

  • The geometriccorrection of a satellite imagery is performed by making a systematic correction with satellite ephemerides and attitude angles followed by employing the Ground Control Points (GCSs) or Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). In a remote area or an inaccessible area, however, GCPs are unavailable to be surveyed and thus they can be obtained only by reading maps, which are not accurate in reality. In this study, we performed the systematic correction process to the inaccessible area and the precise geometric correction process to the adjacent accessible area by using GCPs. Then we analyzed the correlation between the two geo-referenced Korea Multiurpose Satellite (KOMPSAT-1 EOC) images. A new geometrical correction for the inaccessible area imagery is achieved by applying the correlation to the inaccessibleimagery. By employing this new method, the accuracy of the inaccessible area imagery is significantly improved absolutely and relatively.

  • In this study, calibration technology that increases the alignment accuracy in large flexible flat panels was studied. For precise of calibration, a systematization of the calibration algorithm was established, and a calibration correction technique was studied to revise calibration errors. A coordinate systems of camera and UVW stage was established to get the global position of the mark, and equations for translational and rotational calibration were systematically derived based on geometrical analysis. Correction process for the calibration data was carried, and alignment experiments were performed sequentially in cases of the presence or absence of calibration-correction. Alignment results of both calibration correction and non-calibration correction showed accuracy performance less than 1㎛. On the other hand, the standard deviation in calibration-correction is smaller than non-calibration correction. Therefore, calibration correction showed improvement of the alignment repeatability.

  • Concrete is one of the most widely used materials as the shielding structures of a nuclear facilities. It is also the most generated radioactive waste in quantity while dismantling facilities. Since the concrete captures neutrons and generates various radionuclides, radiation measurement and analysis of the sample was fulfilled prior to dismantle facilities. An HPGe detector is used in general for the radiation measurement, and effective correction factors such as geometrical correction factor, self-absorption correction, and absolute detector efficiency have to be applied to the measured data to decide exact radioactivity of the sample. Correction factors are obtained by measuring data using a standard source with the same geometry and chemical states as the sample under the same measurement conditions. However, it is very difficult to prepare standard concrete sources because concrete is limited in pretreatment due to various constituent materials and high density. In addition, the concrete sample obtained by core drill is a volumetric source, which requires geometric correction for sample diameter and self absorption correction for sample density. Therefore in recent years, many researchers are working on the calculation of effective correction factors using Monte carlo simulation instead of measuring them using a standard source. In this study we calculated, using Geant4, one of the Monte carlo codes, the correction factors for the various diameter and density of the concrete core sample at the gamma ray energy emitted from the nuclides 152Eu and 60Co, which are the most generated in radioactive concrete.

  • This study deals with the viability of using a designed geometrical model consists of plane, polar coordinates (PC) and span length in the determination of bridges deformation. The data of a Tianjin Yonghe bridge located in the southern part of China as collected by RTK-DGPS technique and Accelerometer were used in the analysis. Kalman filter and fast Fourier transformation (FFT) analyses were used to determine the frequency. The results indicate that the designed plane and PC geometrical model are easy to calculate the long-time structural deformation monitoring. In addition, the observed frequency using GPS with the rate of 20 Hz doesn't give correction natural frequency of the observation structures.

  • This paper proposes methods to extract face elements and facial characteristics points for face recognition. We select a candidate region of the face elements with geometrical information between them inside the extracted face region with skin color and extract them using their inherent features. The facial characteristics to be applied to face recognition is expressed with geometrical relation such as distance and angle between the extracted face elements. Experiment results shows good performance to extract of face elements.
