The single layer latticed domes have various behaviors with each geometrical shape and scale, and they are affected by vertical component as well as horizontal component of the dynamic load. And they represent ye different earthquake responses under each ground acceleration compared with another structural systems. Generally, all of the members of latticed domes undergo three dimensional deflections if they are subjected to arbitrary one dimensional horizontal load under earthquake motions. And their response characteristics are very different to their shapes, rise/span ratios, and damping mechanisms. In this study, the earthquake response behavior is verified according to the factor of each shape, rise/span ratio, and damping ratio of latticed domes, which undergo horizontal and vertical earthquake motions by numerical approaches.
In this paper, we propose a method fur measuring the dimensions of an arbitrary object using geometric relationship between a perspective projection image and a rectangular parallelepiped model. For recognizing the vertexes of the rectangular parallelepiped surrounding an arbitrary object, the method adopts a strategy that derives the equations for vertex recognition from the geometrical relationships for image formation between 2D image and the rectangular parallelepiped model. extracts from 2D image with vertical view features (or junctions) of minimum quadrangle circumscribing an arbitrary shape object, and then recognizes vertexes from the features with the equations. Finally, the dimensions of the object are calculated from these results of vertex recognition. By the experimental results, it is demonstrated that this method is very effective to recognize the vertexes of the arbitrary objects.
This unit - structure of truss stabilized by cable tension is composed of four truss member adding to a central post and eight cables, and is connected by hinge joints and is stabilized by cable tension. As this unit - structures itself is a statically closed and stabilize system individually, it can be employed to assemble a structure with a variety of configuration. In this paper, for determination the shape of the unit - structure of truss stabilized by the cable, characteristics such as the stabilized range of the various geometrical parameter about unit system and the relation of the best governing paramter is demonstrated, and the relation of the results is compared in the range for the stabilization of unit-structure.
For regenerative pump performance test we made 5 times enlarged and 3 different kinds blade types impeller with similarity. Due to geometrical characteristic of regenerative pump, there are two kinds of groups which effect on performance of it. One is geometric shape of impeller blade and the other is clearance and inlet/outlet head loss. To study performance of regenerative pump with impeller shape changes, we tested it with reducing clearance. And we reconcile performance data in the case of zero clearance and zero inlet/outlet head loss. Finally we could verify the influence of each group.
In the current paper, the optimization shape of a polysilicon variable-capacitance micromotor (VCM) was determined using the seeker optimization algorithm (SOA). The optimum goal of the algorithm was to find the maximum torque value and minimum ripple torque by varying the geometrical parameters. The optimization process was performed using a combination of SOA and the finite-element method (FEM). The fitness value was calculated via FEM analysis using COMSOL3.4, and SOA was realized by MATLAB7.4. The proposed method was applied to a VCM with eight and six poles at the stator and rotor, respectively. For comparison, this optimization was also performed using the genetic algorithm. The results show that the optimized micromotor using SOA had a higher torque value and lower torque ripple, indicating the validity of this methodology for VCM design.
Retroreflector is different from other reflecting surfaces as it mades reflection in which radiation is returned in directions close to its incoming direction. Because of this characteristics, retroreflectors find many applications in traffic safety related areas. Retroreflectors are usually made using comer cubes, or partially coated glass beads. These glass beads can be made very small, so that they can be coated on sheets or mixed with paints. The design of glass type retroreflector depends on glass bead's shape and material, and its optical characteristics are related to the refractive index of glass. In this paper, a method of anlyzing glass bead type retroreflector's sptical characteristics with respect to shape and optica property of the glass, is presented. First, the coefficient of retroreflection, which is a measure of retroreflector's optical characteristics, is derived analytically using geometrical optics method. And the result is plotted using numerical methods. The results show good match with those obtained experimentally, which were supplied from a commercial retroreflector manufacturer.
Cold ironing, as a post-forging operation of warm forged gears, needs a clear understanding of form errors due to die-elasticity and springback of component. In order to simplify the analysis of cold ironing, a single tooth instead of a whole gear component was investigated. The influence of initial surface roughness, die design, and die/workpiece interference has been examined experimentally and numerically. As a result the changes in geometrical profile, dimensions, and surface finish in a single tooth were observed. This study demonstrates that predicted dimensions can be achieved and surface finish also can be greatly improved.
Recently, with the development of industry and the improvement of living standards, various wastes are generated along with the production of various products. Most of these wastes are used as containers for products, and plastic or aluminum is used. Various attempts are being made to automate the classification of these wastes due to the high labor cost, but most of them are solved by manpower due to the geometrical shape change due to the nature of the waste. In this study, in order to automate the waste sorting task, Deep Learning technology is applied to a robot system for waste sorting and a vision system for waste sorting to effectively perform sorting tasks according to the shape of waste. As a result of the experiment, a Deep Learning parameter suitable for waste sorting was selected. In addition, through various experiments, it was confirmed that 99% of wastes could be selected in individual & group image learning. It is expected that this will enable automation of the waste sorting operation.
Recently the monitoring system of tool setting in high speed precision machining center is required for manufacturing products that have highly complex and small shape, high precision and high function. It is very important to reduce time to setup tool in order to improve the machining precision and the productivity and to protect the breakage of cutting tool as the shape of product is smaller and more complex. Generally, the combination of errors that geometrical clamping error of fixing tool at the spindle of machining tool and the asynchronized error of driving mechanism causes that the run-out of tool reaches to 3$^{\sim}$20 times of the thickness of cutting chip. And also the run-out is occurred by the misalignment between axis of tool shank and axis of spindle and spindle bearing in high speed rotation. Generally, high speed machining is considered when the rotating speed is more than 8,000 rpm. At that time, the life time of tool is reduced to about 50% and the roughness of machining surface is worse as the run-out is increased to 10 micron. The life time of tool could be increased by making monitoring of tool-setup easy, quick and precise in high speed machining tool. This means the consumption of tool is much more reduced. And also it reduces the manufacturing cost and increases the productivity by reducing the tool-setup time of operator. In this study, in order to establish the concept of tool-setup monitoring the measuring method of the geometrical error of tool system is studied when the spindle is stopped. And also the measuring method of run-out, dynamic error of tool system, is studied when the spindle is rotated in 8,000${\sim}$60,000 rpm. The dynamic phenomena of tool-setup are analyzed by implementing the monitoring system of rotating tool system and the non-contact measuring system of micro displacement in high speed.

Geometrical characteristics of fresh red pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) were measured and indexed to define some important geometrical characteristics, and malformation of body and fruit stalk which are necessary for the design of the equipments for cutting, spreading and alignment of red pepper in developing a fruit stalk remover of fresh red pepper. The effects of bending of body and fruit stalk on the equipments of cutting, spreading and alignment were studied. The maximum lengths of some parts of fresh red pepper were found to be 180 mm, 125 mm, 144 mm, 67 mm and 76 mm for the body, the bent part of body, the fruit stalk, the bent part and the straight part of fruit stalk, respectively. The fresh red pepper with bending indices more than 0.4 and 0.3 for the body and the fruit stalk, respectively, was defined to be malformed based on the result of cutting rate using cutting unit; while the other ones to be normal in shape. Based on this, among the total fresh red peppers tested, 47%, 40% and 20% were found malformed for the body, the fruit stalk, and for both of the body and the fruit stalk. Malformed red peppers were poorer in spreading and alignment than normal ones, and the processed quantity was decreased with increased feed rate. The required time for the malformed peppers to pass on the alignment plate inclined at 30 increased rapidly at 8.3 Hz with increased feed rate. For the fresh red peppers with average moisture content of 85%,w.b., the maximum tensile strength between fruit stalk and body was 88.1 N; the maximum cutting resistances were 92.1 N and 94.9 N for the fruit stalk-calyx joint and body, respectively. Average coefficients of static friction were 0.99, 0.62, 0.59 and OJ, respectively, for the surfaces of rubber, galvanized iron, acryl and plywood.
