  • CAD databases are the core element to the management of product information. A key to the successful use of the databases is a rational method of query to and retrieval from the databases. Although it is parts geometry that users eager to retrieve from the CAD databases, no system yet supports geometry-based query. This paper aims at developing a new method of assessing geometric similarity which can serve as the basis of geometric query for CAD database. The proposed method uses ASVP (Alternating Sums of Volumes with Partitioning) decomposition that is a volumetric representation of a part obtained from its boundary representation. A measure of geometric similarity between two solid models is defined on their ASVP tree representations. The measure can take into account overall shapes of parte, shapes of features and their locations. Several properties that a similarity measure needs to satisfy are discussed. The geometric query developed in this paper can be used in a wide range of applications using CAD databases, which include similarity-based design retrieval, variant process planning, and components selection from part library. An experiment has been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, and the results are presented.

  • This study conducted a student-centered inquiry lesson on the similarity of figures using AlgeoMath, with student learning aspects analyzed from a communication perspective. This approach aimed to inform pedagogical implications related to teaching geometric similarity. Through utilizing AlgeoMath, students were able to visually confirm that their chosen figures were similar, experiencing key mathematical concepts such as the ratio of similarity to the area of similar figures, and congruency and similarity conditions of triangles. In the lessons applying this concept, we categorized the features of similarity learning displayed by students, as seen in the communication aspects of their exploratory activities, into 'Understanding similarity ratios', 'Grasping conditions of similarity in triangles', and 'Comparing concepts of congruency and similarity'. Through exploratory activities based on AlgeoMath, students discussed the meaning and mathematical relationships of key concepts related to similarity, such as the ratio of similarity to the area of figures, and the meaning and conditions of congruence and similarity in triangles. By improving misconceptions about the similarity of figures, they were able to develop deeper mathematical understanding. This study revealed that in teaching and learning the geometric similarity using AlgeoMath, obtaining meaningful pedagogical outcome was not solely due to the features of the AlgeoMath environment, but also largely depended on the teacher's guidance and intervention that stimulated students' thinking.

  • In this paper, a geometric similarity law is introduced to the performance test of a large-sized silencer used in ship engine or plant system. A test of scale-down model enable to yield the cost and time saving in developing large-sized silencer considerably. Two types of silencer, resonator and expansion chamber, were analyzed by a theoretical method and an acoustical FEM(finite element method) in order to obtain geometric similarity variables. A method is proposed to estimate the transmission loss of prototype model using the test results of scale-down model. Two actual large-sized silencer, which consist of resonator and expansion chamber, were analysed by an acoustical FE analysis. Consequently, the proposed method predicts effectively the performance of prototype silencers using those of scale-down models.

  • In this paper, we investigate the similarity transformations in the Minkowski n-space. We study the geometric invariants of non-null curves under the similarity transformations. Besides, we extend the fundamental theorem for a non-null curve according to a similarity motion of ${\mathbb{E}}_1^n$. We determine the parametrizations of non-null self-similar curves in ${\mathbb{E}}_1^n$.

  • In this paper, a similarity measure between interval-valued vague sets is proposed. In the interval-valued vague sets representation, the upper bound and the lower bound of a vague set are represented as intervals of interval-valued fuzzy set respectively. Proposed method combines the concept of geometric distance and the center-of-gravity point of interval-valued vague set to evaluate the degree of similarity between interval-valued vague sets. We also prove three properties of the proposed similarity measure. It provides a useful way to measure the degree of similarity between interval-valued vague sets.

  • The identification of ultrasonic flaw signals is a truly difficult task in the angle beam testing of welded joints due to non-relevant signals from the geometric reflectors such as weld roots and counter bores. This paper describes a new approach called "technique for identification of flaw signal using deconvolution(TIFD)" in order to identify the flaw signals in such a problematic situation. The concept of similarity function based on the deconvolution is introduced in the proposed approach. The "reference" signals from both flaws and geometric reflectors and test signals are acquired and normalized. The similarity functions are obtained by deconvolution of test signals with reference signals. The flaw signals could be identified by the patterns of similarity function. The initiative results show great potential of TIFD to distinguish notch comer signals from the geometric reflections.

  • Conventional similarity measures suggested so far can be classified into three categories: (i) geometric similarity measures, (ij) set-theoretic similarity measures, and (iii) matching function-based similarity measures. On the basis of the characteristics of the conventional similarity measures, in this paper, we propose a new similarity measure of fuzzy sets and investigate its properLies. Finally, numelical examples are provided for the comparison of characteristics of the proposed similarity measure and other previous similarity measures.

  • As many of armored vehicles are seriously exposed to threat of IEDs(Improvised Explosive Devices) in the Afghanistan war and the Iraq war. V-shaped military vehicles are deeply studied in order to protect crews and mounted soldiers against land mines. Generally the experiment on full-scaled V-shaped structure needs excessively high cost, which becomes a huge barrier to study. In this paper, we explore the possibility to make a half-scaled model of the V-shaped structure by using the geometric similarity scaling. We demonstrate the geometric similarity scaling between the original model and the half-scaled model is established on the momentum and deflections of structure via computer simulations and experiments. At this stage, we conduct only numerical analysis of predicting vibration of V-shaped structure because measuring vibration of structure is difficult in the mass-explosion experiment, which is remained as future work.

  • The instantiation of spaces as a discrete entity allows users to utilize BIM models in a wide range of analyses. However, in practice, their utility has been limited as spaces are erroneously entered due to human error and often omitted entirely. Recent studies attempted to automate space allocation using artificial intelligence approaches. However, there has been limited success as most studies focused solely on the use of geometric features to distinguish spaces. In this study, in addition to geometric features, semantic relations between spaces and elements were modeled and used to improve space classification in BIM models. Graph Convolutional Networks (GCN), a deep learning algorithm specifically tailored for learning in graphs, was deployed to classify spaces via a similarity graph that represents the relationships between spaces and their surrounding elements. Results confirmed that accuracy (ACC) was +0.08 higher than the baseline model in which only geometric information was used. Most notably, GCN was able to correctly distinguish spaces with no apparent difference in geometry by discriminating the specific elements that were provided by the similarity graph.

  • Image Hash specifies as a descriptor that can be used to measure similarity in images. Among all image Hash methods, histogram based image Hash has robustness to common noise-like operation and various geometric except histogram _equalization. In this_paper an improved histogram based Image Hash that is using "Imadjust" filter I together is proposed. This paper has achieved a satisfactory performance level on histogram equalization as well as geometric deformation.
