GeoVideo: A First Step to MediaGIS

  • MediaGIS is a concept of tightly integrated multimedia with spatial information. VideoGIS is an example of MediaGIS focused on the interaction or interaction of video and spatial information. Our suggested GeoVideo, a new concept of VideoGIS has its key feature in interactiveness. In GeoVideo, the geographic tasks such as browsing, searching, querying, spatial analysis can be performed based on video itself. GeoVideo can have the meaning of paradigm shift from artificial, static, abstracted and graphical paradigm to natural, dynamic, real, and image-based paradigm. We discuss about the integration of video and geography and also suggest the GeoVideo system design. Several considerations on expanding the functionalities of GeoVideo are explained for the future works.

  • Recently, as the Geospatial Web is combined with the Semantic Web in order to keep pace with the recent trends of information technology emphasizing interoperability, intelligence and individualization, the Geo Semantic Web was proposed, which is an intelligent geographical information Web service technology that can provide users with suitable information by connecting and integrating various types of spatial information and extensive aspatial information on the Web efficiently. For the Geo Semantic Web service, we need to develop Geo Ontology processing technologies that enable computers to process knowledge and information scattered around in the Web environment automatically. However, standards for Geo Ontology processing technologies have nod been established yet, and standardization organizations and various groups and agencies are conducting relevant studies. This paper analyzed various base theories and technologies related to Geo Ontology and developed a Geo Semantic Web system. The Geo Semantic Web system comprises Query Processing Manager that analyzes and processes Geo Semantic queries and manages sessions, Ontology Manager that generates and queries Geo Ontology and extracts spatial/aspatial data, and Clients. Finally, this paper proved the utility of the Geo Semantic Web system by applying it to a hypothetical scenario where Geo Semantic queries are required.

  • For the purpose of automatic management and enhancing quality of construction, information technology has been employed in construction field recently. As a consequence, informative construction, which utilizes information technology to reduce construction time and optimize construction sequence, becomes a state-of-art field of construction. Considering this case, construction field should more actively adopt other engineering technologies of rapidly advancing fields, such as electronic, control, and informative engineering, in order to reduce construction cost and to solve environmental problems as well as to enhance construction quality. In this aspect, this paper introduces a novel research field 'Geo-mechatronics', which stands for the convergence of geotechnical engineering and mechatronics (i.e. automation of mechanics using electronic technologies). Since the ground is ubiquitous in every infrastructure construction, the Geo-mechatronics research is crucial for the development of construction technology in the future. Moreover, it is believed to that the Geo-mechatronics research will make our construction industry to be more future-oriented and internationally comparative industry.

EFTG: Efficient and Flexible Top-K Geo-textual Publish/Subscribe

  • With the popularity of mobile networks and smartphones, geo-textual publish/subscribe messaging has attracted wide attention. Different from the traditional publish/subscribe format, geo-textual data is published and subscribed in the form of dynamic data flow in the mobile network. The difference creates more requirements for efficiency and flexibility. However, most of the existing Top-k geo-textual publish/subscribe schemes have the following deficiencies: (1) All publications have to be scored for each subscription, which is not efficient enough. (2) A user should take time to set a threshold for each subscription, which is not flexible enough. Therefore, we propose an efficient and flexible Top-k geo-textual publish/subscribe scheme. First, our scheme groups publish and subscribe based on text classification. Thus, only a few parts of related publications should be scored for each subscription, which significantly enhances efficiency. Second, our scheme proposes an adaptive publish/subscribe matching algorithm. The algorithm does not require the user to set a threshold. It can adaptively return Top-k results to the user for each subscription, which significantly enhances flexibility. Finally, theoretical analysis and experimental evaluation verify the efficiency and effectiveness of our scheme.

  • The u-GIS national land information providing technology is the technology which maximizes the application of u- GIS data through the national land information platform technique of the next generation web and provides a user with the on-demand national land information in the ubiquitous environment. Recently, as the environment emphasizing the web as a platform 'Web 2.0' emerges, the where 2.0 which is paradigm is diffused in the spatial information area. And the Geo-spatial Web technology develops in a center. Moreover, it is changed to the open platform of the user participation trend. And the consumer of the geo-spatial information is changed to the end-user center from the public institution. The geo-spatial technique is technologically faced with the new challenge. In this paper, we analyze the technical tendency about a paradigm, And we present the u-GIS national land information platform technique, the u-GIS national land information visualization technology, the u-GIS national land information GeoDRM integrative technique, and the u-GIS national land information mobile application technology as the essential elemental technology for overcoming this.

  • This study was carried out to analyze public recognition of geo-technology and its outcome. On the basis of the study, the task of PR/communication to promote status of geo-technology and the PR program by stage(SMTCR) for strategy of geo-technology outcome were suggested as follows; operation of PR committee and plus-one appraisal system on a sender scope, media caravan tour and opinion editorial for geo-technology on a message scope, geoscience award and active use of "the year of earth science" on a tool and channel scopes, and regular measurement of public response and regular appraisal of PR goal/results on a receiver scope.

  • This study was carried out to seek communication programs of geo-technology R&D outcome. For this, the following questions were set. 1) How much portion do KIGAM as the main body of geo-technology R&D among articles reported by major newspapers? 2) What are strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat factors of geo-technology R&D outcome from the communication view point? 3) What is the communication tasks and the communication ways for them? In conclusion, the communication programs of geo-technology R&D outcome using SMTCR(Sender-Message-Tool-Channel-Receiver) model were suggested.

  • Geo-coding refers to the process of associating data with location information, and the system deals with geographic identifiers expressed as latitude and longitude or street addresses. Although many services have been launched, there still remains a problem for users to create geo-coded photo with manually labeling GPS(Global Positioning System) coordinate or synchronizing with separate devices. In this paper, we design and implement a geo-coding system which utilizes the time and location information embedded in digital photographs in order to automatically categorize a personal photo collection. An included GPS receiver labels a photograph with its corresponding GPS coordinates, and the position of the camera is automatically recorded into the photo image header at the moment of capture. The place and time where the photo was taken allows us to provide context metadata on the management and retrieval of information.

  • In this talk, we present a good example of extreme solar and geomagnetic activities from October to November, 2003. These activities are characterized by very large sunspot groups, X-class solar flares, strong particle events, and huge geomagnetic storms. We discuss ground-based and space-based data in terms of space weather scales. We applied the CME propagation models to these events in order to predict the arrivals of heliospheric disturbances. Image Clustering using Geo-Location Awareness

  • This paper suggests a method of automatic clustering to search of relevant digital photos using geo-coded information. The provided scheme labels photo images with their corresponding global positioning system coordinates and date/time at the moment of capture, and the labels are used as clustering metadata of the images when they are in the use of retrieval. Experimental results show that geo-location information can improve the accuracy of image retrieval, and the information embedded within the images are effective and precise on the image clustering.
