The main two applications of the Genetic Algorithms(GA) are the optimization and the machine learning. Machine Learning has two objectives that make the complex system learn its environment and produce the proper output of a system. The machine learning using the Genetic Algorithms is called GA machine learning or genetic-based machine learning (GBML). The machine learning is different from the optimization problems in finding the rule set. In optimization problems, the population of GA should converge into the best individual because optimization problems, the population of GA should converge into the best individual because their objective is the production of the individual near the optimal solution. On the contrary, the machine learning systems need to find the set of cooperative rules. There are two methods in GBML, Michigan method and Pittsburgh method. The former is that each rule is expressed with a string, the latter is that the set of rules is coded into a string. Th classifier system of Holland is the representative model of the Michigan method. The classifier systems arrange the strength of classifiers of classifier list using the message list. In this method, the real time process and on-line learning is possible because a set of rule is adjusted on-line. A classifier system has three major components: Performance system, apportionment of credit system, rule discovery system. In this paper, we solve the food search problem with the learning and evolution of an artificial ant using the learning classifier system.
In this paper we examine the machine learning issues raised by the domain of the Intrusion Detection Systems(IDS), which have difficulty successfully classifying intruders. There systems also require a significant amount of computational overhead making it difficult to create robust real-time IDS. Machine learning techniques can reduce the human effort required to build these systems and can improve their performance. Genetic algorithms are used to improve the performance of search problems, while data mining has been used for data analysis. Data Mining is the exploration and analysis of large quantities of data to discover meaningful patterns and rules. Among the tasks for data mining, we concentrate the classification task. Since classification is the basic element of human way of thinking, it is a well-studied problem in a wide variety of application. In this paper, we propose a classifier system based on genetic algorithm, and the proposed system is evaluated by applying it to IDS problem related to classification task in data mining. We report our experiments in using these method on KDD audit data.
An accurate approach for diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is presented in this paper. The presented technique efficiently classifies three subtypes of ADHD (ADHD-C, ADHD-H, ADHD-I) and typically developing control (TDC) by using only structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The research examines structural MRI of the hippocampus from the ADHD-200 database. Each available MRI has been processed by a region-of-interest (ROI) to build a set of features for further analysis. The presented ADHD diagnostic approach unifies feature selection and classification techniques. The feature selection technique based on the proposed binary-coded genetic algorithm searches for an optimal subset of features extracted from the hippocampus. The classification technique uses a chosen optimal subset of features for accurate classification of three subtypes of ADHD and TDC. In this study, the famous Extreme Learning Machine is used as a classification technique. Experimental results clearly indicate that the presented BCGA-ELM (binary-coded genetic algorithm coupled with Extreme Learning Machine) efficiently classifies TDC and three subtypes of ADHD and outperforms existing techniques.

Hepatitis is a major public health problem all around the world. This paper proposes an automatic disease diagnosis system for hepatitis based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) Wavelet Kernel (WK) Extreme Learning Machines (ELM). The classifier used in this paper is single layer neural network (SLNN) and it is trained by ELM learning method. The hepatitis disease datasets are obtained from UCI machine learning database. In Wavelet Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (WK-ELM) structure, there are three adjustable parameters of wavelet kernel. These parameters and the numbers of hidden neurons play a major role in the performance of ELM. Therefore, values of these parameters and numbers of hidden neurons should be tuned carefully based on the solved problem. In this study, the optimum values of these parameters and the numbers of hidden neurons of ELM were obtained by using Genetic Algorithm (GA). The performance of proposed GA-WK-ELM method is evaluated using statical methods such as classification accuracy, sensitivity and specivity analysis and ROC curves. The results of the proposed GA-WK-ELM method are compared with the results of the previous hepatitis disease studies using same database as well as different database. When previous studies are investigated, it is clearly seen that the high classification accuracies have been obtained in case of reducing the feature vector to low dimension. However, proposed GA-WK-ELM method gives satisfactory results without reducing the feature vector. The calculated highest classification accuracy of proposed GA-WK-ELM method is found as 96.642 %.
This paper presents machine learning methods using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to analyze optimal damper distribution for structural vibration control. Regarding different building structures, a genetic algorithm based optimization method is used to determine optimal damper distributions that are further used as training samples. The structural features, the objective function, the number of dampers, etc. are used as input features, and the distribution of dampers is taken as an output result. In the case of a few number of damper distributions, multi-class prediction can be performed using SVM and MLP respectively. Moreover, MLP can be used for regression prediction in the case where the distribution scheme is uncountable. After suitable post-processing, good results can be obtained. Numerical results show that the proposed method can obtain the optimized damper distributions for different structures under different objective functions, which achieves better control effect than the traditional uniform distribution and greatly improves the optimization efficiency.
A model based on genetic algorithm optimization, GA-SVM, is proposed to warn university students of their status. This model improves the predictive effect of support vector machines. The genetic optimization algorithm is used to train the hyperparameters and adjust the kernel parameters, kernel penalty factor C, and gamma to optimize the support vector machine model, which can rapidly achieve convergence to obtain the optimal solution. The experimental model was trained on open-source datasets and validated through comparisons with random forest, backpropagation neural network, and GA-SVM models. The test results show that the genetic algorithm-optimized radial basis kernel support vector machine model GA-SVM can obtain higher accuracy rates when used for early warning in university learning.
Evolving in artificial agent is an extremely difficult problem, but on the other hand, a challenging task. At present the studies mainly centered on single agent learning problem. In our case, we use simulated soccer to investigate multi-agent cooperative learning. Consider the fundamental differences in learning mechanism, existing reinforcement learning algorithms can be roughly classified into two types-that based on evaluation functions and that of searching policy space directly. Genetic Programming developed from Genetic Algorithms is one of the most well known approaches belonging to the latter. In this paper, we give detailed algorithm description as well as data construction that are necessary for learning single agent strategies at first. In following step moreover, we will extend developed methods into multiple robot domains. game. We investigate and contrast two different methods-simple team learning and sub-group loaming and conclude the paper with some experimental results.
An improved sample balanced genetic algorithm and Extreme Learning Machine (iSBGA-ELM) was designed for accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer disease (AD) and identification of biomarkers associated with AD in this paper. The proposed AD diagnosis approach uses a set of magnetic resonance imaging scans in Open Access Series of Imaging Studies (OASIS) public database to build an efficient AD classifier. The approach contains two steps: "voxels selection" based on an iSBGA and "AD classification" based on the ELM. In the first step, the proposed iSBGA searches for a robust subset of voxels with promising properties for further AD diagnosis. The robust subset of voxels chosen by iSBGA is then used to build an AD classifier based on the ELM. A robust subset of voxels keeps a high generalization performance of AD classification in various scenarios and highlights the importance of the chosen voxels for AD research. The AD classifier with maximum classification accuracy is created using an optimal subset of robust voxels. It represents the final AD diagnosis approach. Experiments with the proposed iSBGA-ELM using OASIS data set showed an average testing accuracy of 87%. Experiments clearly indicated the proposed iSBGA-ELM was efficient for AD diagnosis. It showed improvements over existing techniques.
