  • This paper introduces an approach to an ontology-based multi-level knowledge framework for a knowledge management system for discrete-product development. Participants in a product life cycle want to share comprehensive product knowledge without any ambiguity and heterogeneity. However, previous knowledge management approaches are limited in providing those aspects: therefore, we suggest an ontology-based multi-level knowledge framework (OBMKF). The bottom level, the axiom, specifies the semantics of concepts and relations of knowledge so ambiguity can be alleviated. The middle level is a product development knowledge map; it defines the concepts and the relations of the product domain knowledge and guides the engineer to process their engineering decisions. The middle level is then classified further into more detailed levels, such as generic product level, specific product level, product version level, and manufactured item level, according to the various viewpoints. The top level is specialized knowledge for a specific domain that gives the solution of a specific task or problem. It is classified into three knowledge types: expert knowledge, engineering function knowledge, and data-analysis-based knowledge. This proposed framework is based on ontology to accommodate a comprehensive range of knowledge and is represented with first-order logic to maintain a uniform representation.

  • A new medical system was started in Korea in 2000 and pharmaceutical affairs law was revised in 2001. According to the revised law, generic substitution is permitted only to therapeutically equivalent generic product. Bioequivalence studies are usually used to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence between reference listed drugs and generic drugs. The issues that are recently heating up in Korea are to increase bioequivalent drug products and at the same time to ensure the credibility of the therapeutic equivalence of generic drugs. Sometimes food can change the bioavailability (BA) of a drug and influence the bioequivalence (BE) between test and reference products as well. Food effects on BA can have clinically significant consequences. Food can alter BA by various means including delaying gastric emptying, stimulating bile flow and changing gastointestinal pH. This paper provides the recently published Korean guideline on food-effect BA and fed BE studies.

  • Currently the systematic approaches to implementing CALS and reducing time-to-market are widely used, which is based on the concept of PDM. The concept of PDM is to maximize the time-to-market benefits of concurrent engineering while maintaining control of product data and distributing, it automatically to the people who need it - when they need it. In this paper, we developed PRO browser with these PDM functions which have the functions of managing the information of product, process and organization consistently and inter-referencing efficiently the data required in enaluation. In the PRO browser, throughout the design process improvement, the generic environments are embodied which make it possible to reduce product development sycle time and improve the quality of design.

  • This paper introduces a methodology for construction of ontology-based product knowledge Map. For CPC(Collaborative Product Commerce) environment, engineering application of ontology has been studied . However, there are no generic and comprehensive methodologies for ontology construction yet because of such problems: dependency on experience of ontologist and domain experts and insufficiency of detail stages or rules. To solve those problems, we propose a methodology to construct ontology from engineering documents in semi-automatic. We use middle-out strategy and term's axioms, sub-definitions, to build ontology map. 5-turple ontology structure, semantic network and First order logic (FOL) are used for ontology definition in this study.

  • Computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysis is considered essential for product development because it decreases the simulation time, reduces the prototyping costs, and enhances the reusability of product parts. The reuse of quality-assured CAE data has been continually increasing due to the extension of product lifecycle management; PLM, which is widely used, shortens the product development cycle and improves the product quality. However, less attention has been paid to systematic research on the interoperability of CAE data because of the diversity of CAE data and because the structure of CAE data is more complex than that of CAD data. In this paper, we suggest a CAE data exchange method for the effective sharing of geometric and analysis data. The method relies on heterogeneous CAE systems, a virtual reality system, and our developed CAE middleware for CAE data exchange. We also designed a generic CAE kernel, which is a critical part of the CAE middleware. The kernel offers a way of storing analysis data from various CAE systems, and, with the aid of a script command, enabling the data to be translated for a different system. The reuse of CAE data is enhanced by the fact that the CAE middle-ware can be linked with a virtual reality system or a product data management system.

  • GPM(Generic Product Model) developed by Hitachi in Japan is a common data model to integrate and share life cycle data of nuclear power plants. GPM consists of GPM core model, an abstract model, implementation language for the model and reference library written in the language. GPM core model has a feature that it can construct a semantic network model consisting of relationships among objects. Initial GPM developed and provided GPML as an implementation language to support the feature of the core model, but afterwards the GPML was replaced by GPM-XML based on XML to achieve data interoperability with heterogeneous applications accessing a GPM data model. However, data models written in GPM-XML are insufficient to be used as a semantic network model for lack of studies which support GPM-XML and enable the models to be used as a semantic network model. This paper proposes OWL as the implementation language for GPM core model because OWL can describe ontologies similar to semantic network models and has an abundant supply of technical standards and supporting tools. Also, OWL which can be expressed in terms of RDF/XML based on XML guarantees data interoperability. This paper uses OWL DL, one of three sublanguages of OWL, because it can guarantee complete reasoning and the maximum expressiveness at the same time. The contents of this paper introduce the way how to overcome the difference between GPM and OWL DL, and, base on this way, describe how to convert the reference library written in GPML into ontologies based on OWL DL written in RDF/XML.

  • The dynamics and control of two complex column configurations (sidestream column with stripper; prcfractionater/sidestream column configuration), which are multivariable interacting and nonlinear, have been studied. A new control scheme developed by Hanand Park(1993) to deal with the nonlinear and multivariable nature of distillation processes has been applied to these complex distillation configurations. The control scheme incorporates a nonlinear wave model into a generic model control framework. An observer based on the nonlinear wave model is used to determine the profile positions of distillation column sections. The control scheme enables tight control of the profile position of each column section that leads to fast stabilization of product compositions.

  • Features are generic shapes with which engineers associate certain attributes and knowledge useful in reasoning about the product. Feature-based modeling systems support additional levels of information beyond those available in geometric modelers. The objective of this study is to develop a PC level feature-based modeling system which explicitly represents dimensions of the part. The feature-based modeler retains all the benefits of traditional B-rep. solid models, and represents the dimensions at a high level of a abstraction so that dimension driven geometry can be achieved.

  • Let E and F be Banach spaces with $X{\subset}E$ and $Y{\subset}F$. Suppose that X is weakly compact, convex and has the fixed point property for a nonexpansive mapping, and Y has the fixed point property for a multivalued nonexpansive mapping. Then $(X{\oplus}Y)_p$, $1{\leq}$ P < ${\infty}$ has the fixed point property for a multi valued nonexpansive mapping. Furthermore, if X has the generic fixed point property for a nonexpansive mapping, then $(X{\oplus}Y)_{\infty}$ has the fixed point property for a multi valued nonexpansive mapping.

  • Acute renal failure is the generic term for an abrupt and sustained decrease in renal function resulting in retention of nitrogenous and non nitrogenous waste product. This may results in life threatening consequences including volume overload, hyperkalemia, and metabolic acidosis. Acute renal failure is both common and carries high mortality rate, but as it is often preventable, identification of patients at risk and and appropriate management are crucial. This review summarized the most recent information on definition, epidemiology, clinical causes and management of acute renal failure in pediatric patients.
