  • In this paper, we have compared the performance of a D-TDMA protocol with that of a CDMA protocol, in radio access system for integrated voice/data services. The D-TDMA protocol is based on a generic dynamic channel assignment approach to be followed a combination of “circuit mode” reservation for voice calls, along with dynamic first-come-first served assignment of remaining capacity for data messages. In the CDMA protocol, we have used the voice activity detection to reduce the interface power of other mobiles in internal and external cells, and analyzed the interference power ratio. Also we have computed BER(Bit Error Rate) by using this interference power ratio and evaluated voice blocking probability(voice packet loss probability) and data transmission delay, according to average data length and average data arrival rate.We have found the CDMA protocol achieves comparatively higher performance for short data length, regardless of data arrival rate. Otherwise, the data transmission delay of D-TDMA protocol is shorter than that of the CDMA protocol for long data message.

  • Unlike a typical internal combustion engine vehicle, the powertrain system of the pure electric vehicle, consisting of battery, inverter and motor, has direct effects on the vehicle performance and dynamics. Then, the specific modeling of such complex electro-mechanical components enables the insight into the longitudinal dynamic outputs of the vehicle and analysis of entire powertrain systems. This paper presents the dynamic model of electric vehicle powertrain systems based on theoretical approaches to predict and analyze the final output performance of electric vehicles. Additionally, the correlations between electric input signals and the final output of the mechanical system are mathematically derived. The proposed model for powertrain dynamics of electric vehicle systems are validated with a reference electric vehicle model using generic simulation platform based on Matlab/Simulink software. Consequently, the dynamic analysis results are compared with electric vehicle simulation model in some parameters such as vehicle speed/acceleration, and propulsion forces.

  • Geofence is a generic concept for describing geographic aspects of PoI(Point of Interest) enabling users to proactively induce context-based actions. However there is no need to maintain continuity when you reflect geofence in case of temporary events, accidents and isolation. Therefore we propose a geofence platform so-called TemG by adding time-limited information to support PoI. The proposed geofence platform TemG ensures the persistency and continuity of geofence. Furthermore, the proposed TemG can not only provide to automatically activate or deactivate the specified geofence during a period of timestamp but also support to the basic context-aware service knowing in/out in the zone. In the near future, the proposed TemG will be need to extend HPS(Hybrid Positioning System) for IoT(Internet of Things).

  • Recently, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced the expansion of the number of generic top-level domains (gTLDs) beyond the current 22 gTLDs, and the gTLD Applicant Guidebook for ICANN's new gTLD program is now under consideration for approval. ICANN also introduces a "Trademark Clearinghouse" and the "Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS)" procedure to protect trademarks and expedite dispute resolution and save costs. The Trademark Clearinghouse is a central repository for information to be authenticated, stored and disseminated, pertaining to the rights of the trademark holders. Trademark holders would voluntarily provide data of their trademarks from all over the world, and it would assist a trademark watch service provided by the new gTLD registry for trademark holders and potential domain name registrants. The URS is a part of the new gTLD dispute resolution mechanisms created by ICANN to resolve cybersquatting disputes. A complainant in a URS proceeding must establish three elements that are very similar to the existing UDRP to succeed, but supposedly more expedited and cost efficient. Since the URS provides that it only protects court validated and registered trademarks, it is not clear whether unregistered marks used in commerce are protected under the URS. The URS escalates the complainant's burden of proof from a preponderance of evidence standard under the UDRP to a clear and convincing evidence standard. The notices to a respondent shall be sufficient if the URS Provider sends the notice of Complaint to the addresses listed in the Whois contact information. As registrants who wish to conceal their true identity often subscribe to the privacy/proxy service and the complainant's high rate of success in the UDRP proceeding is relevant to the respondents' default rate, the URS's simple notice requirement would deprive respondents of a fair opportunity to assert their rights over the disputed domain names.

  • Web personalization has focused on extracting web pages interesting to users, to help users searching wanted information efficiently on the web. One of the main methods to achieve this is by using queries, links and users' preferred words in the pages. In this study, we surveyed from the web users the features of pages that are considered important to themselves in selecting web pages. The survey results showed that the content of the pages is the most important. However, images and readability of the page are rated as high as the content for some users. Based on this result, we present a method for maintaining relative weights of major page features differently in the profile for each user, which is used for personalizing web search results. Performance of the proposed personalization method is analyzed to prove its superiority such that it yields as much as 1.5 times higher rate than the system utilizing both queries and preferred words and about 2.3 times higher rate than a generic search engine.

  • Mobile communication is evolving toward next generation system that is capable to provide ubiquitous human-centric services with giving no restriction on time and location. In particular, context-awareness will be realized using various sensors and devices and related technologies under the ubiquitous Next Generation (NG) mobile communications environment where user's demand and surrounding context are changing dynamically. By such context awareness, context aware service which provides best suitable services for a user by analyzing user's needs and situational information, will be one of the promising NG mobile services. In this article, we propose NG mobile service environment with focusing on generic service traffic flows supported by the NG service platform which gives various means of connecting users and service providers. Then, we propose evolutional phases of context-aware services based on ranges of context information and evolutional trend of telecommunication technologies and networking environment in NG mobile service environment.

  • This study reviewed the overall process of application of contaminant fate and transport model as part of risk assessment. Site characterization and establishment of a conceptual model prior to establishing or selecting a appropriate model were described. Types of models, model selection guidance, and generic site conditions for model application were presented, the process of model calibration, validation, and sensitivity analysis were reviewed. Objectives of modeling should be defined before model selection, and the complexity of selected models should balance the quantity and quality of available input data with the desired model output. If model output is highly sensitive to an assumed or default value of input parameter, or fate and transport models cannot be adequately calibrated or validated, consideration should be given to other options such as using measured data or using another model.

  • In this paper, we propose a detection method of reduced computational complexity aimed at separating the moving objects from the background in a generic video sequence. In generally, indoor environments, it is difficult to accurately detect the object because environmental factors, such as lighting changes, shadows, reflections on the floor. First, the background image to detect an object is created. If an object exists in video, on a previously created background images for similarity comparison between the current input image and to detect objects through several operations to generate a mixture image. Mixed-use video and video inputs to detect objects. To complement the objects detected through the labeling process to remove noise components and then apply the technique of morphology complements the object area. Environment variable such as, lighting changes and shadows, to the strength of the object is detected. In this paper, we proposed that environmental factors, such as lighting changes, shadows, reflections on the floor, including the system uses mixture images. Therefore, the existing system more effectively than the object region is detected.

  • The objective of this paper is to report the result of an experimental program conducted on the strengthening of nonductile RC frames by using external mesh reinforcement and plaster application. The main objective was to test an alternative strengthening technique for reinforced concrete buildings, which could be applied with minimum disturbance to the occupants. Generic specimen is two floors and one bay RC frame in 1/2 scales. The basic aim of tested strengthening techniques is to upgrade strength, ductility and stiffness of the member and/or the structural system. Six specimens, two of which were reference specimens and the remaining four of which had deficient steel detailing and poor concrete quality were strengthened and tested in an experimental program under cyclic loading. The parameters of the experimental study are mesh reinforcement ratio and plaster thickness of the infilled wall. The effects of the mesh reinforced plaster application for strengthening on behavior, strength, stiffness, failure mode and ductility of the specimens were investigated. Premature and unexpected failure mode has been observed at first and second specimens failed due to inadequate plaster thickness. Also third strengthened specimen failed due to inadequate lap splice of the external mesh reinforcement. The last modified specimen behaved satisfactorily with higher ultimate load carrying capacity. Externally reinforced infill wall composites improve seismic behavior by increasing lateral strength, lateral stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete buildings, and limit both structural and nonstructural damages caused by earthquakes.
