Sensitivity Property of Generalized CMAC Neural Network

  • Generalized CMAC (GCMAC) is a type of neural network known to be fast in learning. The network may be useful in structural engineering applications such as the identification and the control of structures. The derivatives of a trained GCMAC is relatively poor in accuracy. Therefore to improve the accuracy, a new algorithm is proposed. If GCMAC is directly differentiated, the accuracy of the derivative is not satisfactory. This is due to the quantization of input space and the shape of basis function used. Using the periodicity of the predicted output by GCMAC, the derivative can be improved to the extent of having almost no error. Numerical examples are considered to show the accuracy of the proposed algorithm.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an optimized Artificial Neural Network(ANN) model to predict the descending time of room air temperature. For this, program for predicting room air temperature and ANN program using generalized delta rule were collected through simulation for predicting room air temperature. ANN was trained and the ANN model having the optimized values-learning rate, moment, bias, number of hidden layer, and number of neuron of hidden layer was presented.

  • A new method is presented to construct a classifier. This was accomplished by combining a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and a genetic algorithm (GA). The classifier constructed in this way is referred to as a GA-GRNN. The GA played a role of controlling training factors simultaneously. In GA optimization, neuron spreads were represented in a chromosome. The proposed optimization method was applied to a data set, consisted of 4 different promoter sequences. The training and test data were composed of 115 and 58 sequence patterns, respectively. The range of neuron spreads was experimentally varied from 0.4 to 1.4 with an increment of 0.1. The GA-GRNN was compared to a conventional GRNN. The classifier performance was investigated in terms of the classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy. The GA-GRNN significantly improved the total classification sensitivity compared to the conventional GRNN. Also, the GA-GRNN demonstrated an improvement of about 10.1% in the total prediction accuracy. As a result, the proposed GA-GRNN illustrated improved classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy over the conventional GRNN.

  • This paper proposes identification and control algorithm of nonlinear systems and the proposed fuzzy-neural network has following characteristics. The network is roughly divided into premise and consequence. The consequence function is nonlinear function which consists of three parameters and the membership function in the premise contains of two parameters. The parameters in premise and consequence are learned by the extended back-propagation algorithm which has a modified form of the generalized delta rule. Simulation results on the identification show that this method is more effective than that of Narendra [3]. The indirect fuzzy-neural control is made of the fuzzy-neural identification and controller. Result on the indirect fuzzy-neural control shows that the proposed fuzzy-neural network can be efficiently applied to nonlinear systems.

  • The well-known back-propagation algorithm for multi-layered neural network has successfully been applied to pattern c1assification problems with remarkable flexibility. Recently. the multi-layered neural network is used as a powerful data mining tool. Nevertheless, in many cases with complex boundary of classification, the successful learning is not guaranteed and the problems of long learning time and local minimum attraction restrict the field application. In this paper, an Improved learning procedure of multi-layered neural network is proposed. The procedure is based on the generalized delta rule but it is particular in the point that the architecture of network is not fixed but enlarged during learning. That is, the number of hidden nodes or hidden layers are increased to help finding the classification boundary and such procedure is controlled by entropy evaluation. The learning speed and the pattern classification performance are analyzed and compared with the back-propagation algorithm.

Reservoir Water Level Forecasting Using Machine Learning Models (기계학습모델을 이용한 저수지 수위 예측)

  • This study investigates the efficiencies of machine learning models, including artificial neural network (ANN), generalized regression neural network (GRNN), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and random forest (RF), for reservoir water level forecasting in the Chungju Dam, South Korea. The models' efficiencies are assessed based on model efficiency indices and graphical comparison. The forecasting results of the models are dependent on lead times and the combination of input variables. For lead time t = 1 day, ANFIS1 and ANN6 models yield superior forecasting results to RF6 and GRNN6 models. For lead time t = 5 days, ANN1 and RF6 models produce better forecasting results than ANFIS1 and GRNN3 models. For lead time t = 10 days, ANN3 and RF1 models perform better than ANFIS3 and GRNN3 models. It is found that ANN model yields the best performance for all lead times, in terms of model efficiency and graphical comparison. These results indicate that the optimal combination of input variables and forecasting models depending on lead times should be applied in reservoir water level forecasting, instead of the single combination of input variables and forecasting models for all lead times.

  • The main goal of this paper is to introduce a novel definition for fuzzy mathematical morphology and a neural network implementation. The generalized- mean operator plays the key role for the definition. Such definition is well suited for neural network implementation. The first stage of the shared-weight neural network has adequate architecture to perform morphological operation. The shared- weight network performs classification based on the features extracted with the fuzzy morphological operation defined in this paper. Therefore, the parameters for the fuzzy definition can be optimized using neural network learning paradigm. Learning rules for the structuring elements, degree of membership, and weighting factors are precisely described. In application to handwritten digit recognition problem, the fuzzy morphological shared-weight neural network produced the results which are comparable to the state-of art for this problem.

  • We obtain the approximation order to a smooth function on a compact subset of $\mathbb{R}$ by generalized translation networks. In our study, the activation function is infinitely many times continuously differentiable function but it does not have special properties around ${\infty}$ and $-{\infty}$ like a sigmoidal activation function. Using the Jackson's Theorem, we get the approximation order. Especially, we obtain the approximation order by a neural network with a fixed threshold.

  • This paper attempts to employ and investigate neural based approaches as interpolation tools for modeling of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drive. Precise modeling of SRM is essential to analyse the performance of control strategies for variable speed drive application. In this work the suitability of Generalized Regression Neural Network (GRNN) and Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) in addition to conventional neural network are explored for improving the modeling accuracy of SRM. The neural structures are trained with the data obtained by modeling of SRM using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and the trained neural network is incorporated in the model of SRM drive. The results signify the modeling accuracy with GRNN model. The closed loop drive simulation is performed in MATLAB/Simulink environment and the closeness of the results in comparison with the experimental prototype validates the modeling approach.

  • In this paper, we discuss a fuzzy neural network classifier with immune algorithm. The fuzzy neural network classifier is constructed with the fuzzy classifier and the neural network classifier based on fuzzy rules. To maximize performance of classifier, the immune algorithm and the back propagation algorithm are used. For the generalized classification ability, the simulation results from the iris data demonstrate superiority of the proposed classifier in comparison with other classifier.
