Wind-induced response behavior of long-span roof structures is very complicated, showing significant contributions of multiple vibration modes. The largest load effects in a huge number of members should be considered for the sake of the equivalent static wind loads (ESWLs). Studies on essential matters and necessary conditions of the universal ESWLs are discussed. An efficient method for universal ESWLs on long-span roof structures is proposed. The generalized resuming forces including both the external wind loads and inertial forces are defined. Then, the universal ESWLs are given by a combination of eigenmodes calculated by proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) analysis. Firstly, the least squares method is applied to a matrix of eigenmodes by using the influence function. Then, the universal ESWLs distribution is obtained which reproduces the largest load effects simultaneously. Secondly, by choosing the eigenmodes of generalized resuming forces as the basic loading distribution vectors, this method becomes efficient. Meanwhile, by using the constraint equations, the universal ESWLs becomes reasonable. Finally, reproduced largest load effects by load-response-correlation (LRC) ESWLs and universal ESWLs are compared with the actual largest load effects obtained by the time domain response analysis for a long-span roof structure. The results demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed universal ESWLs method.
This paper presents a sensitivity analysis to obtain best fit of hydraulic parameters of leaky fractal aquifer. The sensitivity analysis uses the least squares method. The hydraulic parameters (generalized transmissivity and generalized storage coefficient) can be easily determined by the sensitivity analysis for various flow dimensions and different values of the leakage factor. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis was applied to variable-rate pump tast at several abstraction wells, A computer program was developed to evaluate the hydraulic parameters by the sensitivity analysis.
In this paper, an adaptive generalized predictive control(GPC) algorithm which minimizes a N-stage cost function is proposed. The resulting controller is based on GPC algorithm and can be used in unknown plant parameters as the parameters of one step ahead predictor are estimated by recursive least squares method. The estimated parameters are extended to G,P, and F amtrix which contain the parameters of N step ahead predictors. And the minimization of cost function assuming no constraints on future controls results in the projected control increment vector. Hence this adaptive GPC algorithm can be used for either unknown system or varing system parameters, and it is also shown through simulations that the algorithm is robust to the variation of system parameters. This adaptive GPC scheme is shown to have the same stability properties as the deterministic GPC, and requires small amount of calculation compared to other adaptive algorithms which minimize N-stage cost function. Especially, in case that the maximum output horizon is 1, the proposed algorithm can be applicable to direct adaptive GPC.
To obtain more accurate approximation of the true images in the deblurring problems, the weighted global generalized cross validation(GCV) function to the inverse problem with multiple right-hand sides is suggested as an efficient way to determine the regularization parameter. We analyze the experimental results for many test problems and was able to obtain the globally useful range of the weight when the preconditioned global conjugate gradient linear least squares(Gl-CGLS) method with the weighted global GCV function is applied.
In this paper, we consider multi-degree reduction of $B{\acute{e}}zier$ curves with continuity of any (r, s) order with respect to $L_2$ norm. With help of matrix theory about generalized inverses we can use Lagrange multipliers to obtain the degree reduction matrix in a very simple form as well as the degree reduced control points. Also error analysis comparing with the least squares degree reduction without constraints is given. The advantage of our method is that the relationship between the optimal multi-degree reductions with and without constraints of continuity can be derived explicitly.
In this study, a regression model, which relates annual flood peak flows collected at stramflow gaging stations in the Han river and Nakdong river basin to both basin characteristics and precipitation data, is developed by using the generalized least squares method which can provide reasonable and unbiased estimator of error variance by separating error variance of the regression model into that due to model error and due to sampling error. This model may be used as a mechanism for transferring hydrologic information from the gaged sites to ungaged sites.

Even though generalized frequency division multiplexing is an alternative waveform method expected to replace the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing in the future, its implementation must alleviate channel effects. Least-squares (LS), a low-complexity channel estimation technique, could be improved by using the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) without increasing complexity. Unlike the usage of the LS method, the DFT-based method requires the receiver to know the channel impulse response (CIR) length, which is unknown. This study introduces a simple, yet effective, CIR length estimator by utilizing LS estimation. As the cyclic prefix (CP) length is commonly set to be longer than the CIR length, it is possible to search through the first samples if CP is larger than a threshold set using the remaining samples. An adaptive scale is also designed to lower the error probability of the estimation, and a simple signal-to-interference-noise ratio estimation is also proposed by utilizing a sparse preamble to support the use of the scale. A software simulation is used to show the ability of the proposed system to estimate the CIR length. Due to shorter CIR length of rural area, the performance is slightly poorer compared to urban environment. Nevertheless, satisfactory performance is shown for both environments.
Purpose - This paper tries to estimate the effects of China's and Japan's free trade agreement (FTA) by panel generalized least squares (GLS). Design/methodology - The GLS model includes the basic gravity theory and Difference in Difference (DD) method to divide FTA conclusion countries and non-FTA conclusion countries with China and Japan. In order to empirically research the difference between Chinese and Japanese FTAs, we use the Difference in Difference in Difference (DDD) method. Findings - This paper finds the distance variable has more influence on Japanese than Chinese trade. The exchange rate indicates that Chinese trade depends on export and Japanese trade has the structure of re-import; shows that the countries that concluded FTAs with China and Japan have more positive trade effects than those that did not; finds the Chinese FTA promotion effects greater than the Japanese FTA because China had pushed ahead with trade policy since joining the WTO in 2001. Originality/value - This study shows that a single country's FTA and trade policies are an important factor concerning not just the promotion of trade but also the issue of trade conflicts.

The objective of this research paper is to study the simultaneous relationship between fiscal decentralization, corruption, and income inequality among Vietnamese provinces. We use a balanced panel data set of 63 provinces/cities in Vietnam in the period from 2011 to 2018. The study used 3SLS-GMM (Three Stage Least Squares - Generalized Method of Moments estimator) and GMM-HAC (Generalized Method of Moments - Heteroskedastic and Autocorrelation Consistent estimator). Empirical evidence shows a strong simultaneous relationship: increased corruption will increase regional income disparities, income inequality, and increase fiscal decentralization. In addition, the results also suggest that an increase in per-capita income will reduce the level of corruption, or better control corruption of each province. The degree of increase in income inequality, which reduces fiscal decentralization, is the same for trade liberalization. All demonstrate that there is a simultaneous relationship between fiscal decentralization, corruption, and income inequality. In a region of high public governance quality, fiscal decentralization positively effects its economic growth. This issue will indirectly increase income inequality between provinces within a country. Our findings imply that a country's fiscal decentralization strategy should be linked to improving corruption control and local governance effectiveness, indirectly improving income inequality between localities or regions.

The study empirically examines the horizontal spillover effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the productivity of Indian pharmaceutical firms. Robust least squares and the Generalized Method of Moments estimators are applied for the firm-level panel data of Indian pharmaceutical companies whose shares were traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The information was collected from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) Prowess database from 2015 to 2019. Based on the regularity in data availability, the sample firms are limited to 112 companies, 100 of which are domestic firms and 12 international firms. Firms with more than 10 percent foreign equity are classified as FDI firms, while those with less than that are classified as domestic firms. Estimation results show that foreign ownership does not contribute to the productivity of domestic firms. Due to increased competition, the Indian pharmaceutical companies with foreign equity participation are not more productive than local ones. Moreover, the findings reveal a negative and insignificant horizontal spillover effect from FDI on the productivity of domestic enterprises. The absence of horizontal spillovers may be attributable to foreign enterprises' ability to prevent technological outflow to competitors in the same industry.
