  • We report on the timing properties of the 'Crab twin' pulsar PSR B0540-69 measured with X-ray data taken with the Swift telescope over a period of 1100 days. The braking index of the pulsar was estimated to be $n=0.03{\pm}0.013$ in a previous study performed in 2015 with 500-day Swift data. This small value of n is unusual for pulsars, and a comparison with an old estimate of $n{\approx}2.1$ for the same target determined ~10 years earlier suggests a dramatic change in the braking index. To confirm the small value and therefore the large change of n, we used 1100-day Swift observations including the data used in the earlier determination of n = 0.03. In this study we find that the braking index of PSR B0540-69 is $n=0.163{\pm}0.001$, somewhat larger than 0.03. Since the measured value of n is still much smaller than 2.1, we can confirm the dramatic change in the braking index for this pulsar.

  • Splenic tuberculosis is an uncommonly considered diagnosis in clinical practice. This is a case report of splenic tuberculosis in a 13-year-old boy who was seronegative to HIV. He was just well until 7 days prior to this admission when he started to feel epigastric and left subchondral pain. Chest X-ray was not pathological. Abdominal ultrasonography showed slight splenomegaly with multiple hypoechoic nodules and abdominal CT disclosed multiple irregular hypodense lesions in the spleen. Radiological interpretation suggested the possibility of lymphoma or metastatic malignancy. Splenectomy was done and the histopathological findings showed extensive chronic granulomatous inflammation compatible with tuberculosis. Splenic tuberculosis must be included in the differential diagnosis of hypoechoic and hypodense lesions by means of sonography and computed tomography, respectively.

  • Pulmonary sequestration is a very rare congenital malfomation, especially when it is located in the infradiaphragmatic retroperitoneal space. The patient was a 56-year-old man with no respiratory symptom but had some postprandial epigastric discomfort for several days. Plain chest x-ray revealed mild elevation of left diaphragm and abdominal CT scan showed large cystic retroperitoneal mass with some calcification. We performed the operation through the thorachoabdominal incision and the mass was proven to be a pulmonary sequestration. Therefore, we report the case with review of literatures.

  • A 49-year-old man visited our hospital via the emergency room. He had suffered chest trauma by falling down. His chest X-Ray showed pneumomediastinum with pneumopericardium. We checked the Chest CT, and it showed pneumopericardium without any injury to the other organs, the compressed heart and a minimal pneumothorax on the left hemithorax. Closed thoracostomy was then done under local anesthesia. We then performed open pericardiostomy under general anesthesia. We got a good result and so we report on this case.

  • A design of unit magnification 2-mirror system with high resolution is presented. It is for soft X-ray(wavelength of 13 nm) projection imaging and suitable for preparation of high density semiconductor chip. In general, a holosymmetric system with unit magnification has the advantage that both coma and distortion are completely eliminated. In our holosymmetric 2-mirror system, spherical aberration is addtionally removed by using two identical paraboloidal mirror surfaces and field curvature aberration is also corrected by balancing Petzval sum and astigmatism which depends on the distance between two mirrors, so that the system is a aplanatic flat-field paraboloidal 2-mirror holosymmetric system. This 2-mirror system is small in size, and has a simple configuration with rotational symmetry about optical axis, and has also small central obscuration. Residual finite aberrations, spot diagrams, and diffraction-based MTF's are analyzed for the check of performances as soft X-ray lithography projection system. As a result, the image sizes for the resolutions of$0.25\mum$and $0.18\mum$are 4.0 mm, 2.5 mm respectively, and depths of focus for those are $2.5\mum$, $2.4\mum$respectively. This system should be useful in the fabrication of 256 Mega DRAM or 1 Giga DRAM. DRAM.

  • We investigated the effects of Al2O3 addition on (1-x)Li2B4O7-xAl2O3 (LBAO; x = 0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.07, and 0.1) glasses. The glasses were synthesized by a conventional melt-quench method. Structural transformations of the LBAO glasses were assessed via X-ray diffraction analysis. Estimations of ΔT, KGS = (Tc-Tg)/(Tm-Tc), activation energy, and the Avrami parameter were performed using differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. An interpretation of non-isothermal kinetics of the crystallization process is presented using the modified Ozawa equation. The activation energy E increased from 3.3 to 3.5 eV for the LBAO (x < 0.01) glasses whereas those of the LBAO (x > 0.05) glasses slightly increased from 3.75 to 4.05 eV. The exponent n was estimated to be 3.9 ± 0.1 for the LBAO (x < 0.01) glasses and 3.2 ± 0.02 for the LBAO (x > 0.05) glasses. Microstructural characterization of the glassy and crystalline phases using atomic force microscopy was investigated. The effects of Al2O3 on the LBAO glasses include a decreased nucleation rate in the crystallization process and a significantly reduced crystal size.

  • The purpose of this study was to minimize of entrance surface dose (ESD) at the eye using high kVp technique in the computed radiography. We used REX-650R (Listem, Korea) general X-ray unit, and external detector with ESD dosimeter of Piranha 657 (RTI Electronics, Sweden). We used head of the whole body phantom. The total 64 images of X-ray anterior-posterior of skull were acquired using the film/screen (F/S) method and the digital of computed radiography method. The three radiology professor of more 10 years of clinical career evaluated a X-rays images in the same space by 5-point scale. The external detector was performed measurement of ESD of three times by same condition on the eye of the head phantom. The good image quality in the F/S method (90 kVp, 2.5 mAs) showed at the minimized ESD of 0.310 ${\pm}$ 0.001 mGy. the good image quality in the computed radiography method (90 kVp, 2.0 mAs) showed at the minimized ESD of 0.180 ${\pm}$ 0.002 mGy (P = 0.002). Finally the radiation dose could reduced about 50% in the computed radiography method more than the F/S method. In addition the eye entrance surface dose using high kVp technique with the computed radiography was reduced 92% more than conventional technique (F/S method).

  • We studied the optimal location where the radiation dose of radiological technologists is minimally measured. The measured scatter dose has been compared with the distance inverse square law. We measured the primary X-ray with different tube conditions (60, 70, 81 and 90 kVp) and distances (60, 120 and 180 cm). The scatter ray has been measured with various locations (42.5, 52.4 and 62.4 cm for front and back side, 0 to 60 cm with 10 cm interval for left and right side). The results of this study showed that the dose of primary X-ray was attenuated to 20.52 (27.20%), 28.58 (25.20%), 38.82 (26.32%) and 48.20 mR (26.27%) for each tube voltages at 120 cm. In addition, The dose were 7.06 (8.91%), 9.90 (8.73%), 13.64 (9.25%) and 16.60 mR (9.05%) at 180 cm. As for the scatter in front and back side, the attenuated dose were 0.15 mR (23.09%) and 0.15 mR (22.08%) at 120 cm, and 0.07 mR (10.43%) and 0.06 mR (8.83%) at 180 cm. Scatter was decreased in third quadrant. Therefore, it is recommended that radiological technologists should keep long distance from the object.
