The sex/gender of gastroenterologists impact patients' satisfaction, compliance, and clinical outcomes. For instance, female gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopist-patient gender concordance improves health-related outcomes. This finding suggests that it is important to increase the number of female GI endoscopists. While the number of women in the field of gastroenterology is increasing in the United States and Korea by over 28.3%, it is not enough to account for the gender preferences of female patients. GI endoscopists are at a high risk of endoscopy-related injuries. However, there is a different distribution of muscle and fat; male endoscopists are more affected in their back, while females are more affected in the upper extremities. Women are more susceptible to endoscopy-related injuries than men. There is a correlation between the number of colonoscopies performed and musculoskeletal pain. Job satisfaction is lower in young female gastroenterologists (30' and 40') than in the opposite gender and other ages. Thus, it is important to address these issues in the development of GI endoscopy.

The statistics of occupational injuries and illnesses is one of the most important indicators of worker's safety and health in the field of occupational safety and health. The conventional statistics was produced without consideration of gender difference. This study was planned to investigate the difference of occupational injuries and illnesses by gender because that recently female workers was increased through the change of industrial structure such as from manufacturing dominated to service dominated structure. Statistics of occupational injuries and illnesses collected by workmen's compensation insurance system that have no information about gender composition of population. Economically active population survey was used to calculated the rate of occupational injuries and illnesses by gender. The distribution of estimated rate of occupational injuries and illnesses by industry, occupation and the type of accident were different between male and female employees, but those by the size of enterprise, age of the injured, the duration of the first recuperation, and job tenure were similar between male and female employees. This study has shown that gender sensitive approach may be applied to policy of occupational safety and health because that gender neutral perspective may not discover the fact of gender specific problems.
This paper focuses on gender studies with respect to language education for KFL(Korean as a foreign language) students. It also attempts to view the role of gender as exerting influence on language learning and teaching, and surveys KFL teachers' awareness of the role of gender in Korean language education. It is conceivable that teachers who are aware of differences between female and male will be able to take these into account in their teaching; in doing so they will be more effective in their teaching than if they were to teach in ignorance of these differences. The survey for the teachers' awareness of gender difference was conducted through teachers' discussion as the follow-up measure of the questionnaire. A few teachers do not have a clear idea about the importance of gender differences in language teaching, but the majority have cognizance of the matter. For this research, a questionnaire was administered to 71 subjects, consisting 37 intermediate KFL students and 34 advanced KFL students. The result of the questionnaire reveals that 50.4% subjects use their words and intonation without recognizing the gender difference, on the other hand, 49.6% subjects recognize the gender differences in Korean language use. The result should be adopted as a sociolinguistic factor for the contents of second language education.

Method: Participants were 245 university students who lived in Daegu. Each participant was administered the KGRII (Korean Gender Role Identity Inventory), and Healthy Life Style: A self-test provided by ODDHP National Health Information Center. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test with SPSS 11.0 PC Program. Result: 1. As a result of health behavior level, male students had more health risk behavior problems than female students in smoking(p=.00) and drinking (p=.03). Female students had more health risk behavior problems than male students in exercise and physical activity(p=.00). 2. For female students, feminity type (29.3%) was most common, subjects of undifferentiated type was 26.4%. For male students, masculinity type(32.4%) was most prevalent, and androgenic type was 31.4%. 3. Androginy typed group had more healthy behavior compared with other gender role identity typed group. In contrast, undifferentiated typed group had more high risk behavior compared with other typed group for all of health behavior. Conclusion: These results suggest that gender role identity is a stronger predictor of heath related variable than is sex of subject. Therefore effect methods to develop health promotion program should consider not only sex difference but gender role identity.

Background: Studies have shown the existence of gender- and age-related differences in the incidence and anatomic distribution of colorectal cancers. The purposes of this study were to analyze the distribution characteristics of colorectal cancer patients regarding gender, age, location and tumor size in the course of colonoscopy. Materials and Methods: All colorectal cancer patients who underwent colonoscopy in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from 2003 to 2012 were included in our retrospective study. Demographic information (age and gender) and colonoscopy report information (tumor size and location) were collected and analyzed. To compare the gender differences in tumor location and tumor size, as well as the size differences in tumor location, the chi-square test was used. Results: A total of 3, 369 colorectal cancer patients (2, 007 men vs 1, 362 women) were included in our study. Statistical analysis showed there was no gender difference in the anatomic distribution of the tumors (p>0.05). However, there was a gender difference in tumor size (p<0.05). In addition, our study found there was a significant difference in tumor size between rectal and colon tumors (p<0.001). Conclusions: There was no gender difference in the anatomic distribution of colorectal tumors. In addition, tumors observed in men were larger than in women.
This article examines the influences of Journalist gender and gender ratio in the newsroom on news coverage of women among three national newspapers in Korea. Results reveal that female reporters describe women newsmakers in greater length, of more diversity in occupations, and of more positive pattern than their colleagues, male reporters do. The newspaper employing more female reporters also covers female newsmakers with less personal information, of more diversity in occupations, and of more positive pattern. It is suggested that increase of female reporters in the newsroom induce male reporters to cover women newsmakers toward a pro-female attitude. Lastly, the relation of the gender ratio variation in the news organization and news coverage of women is discussed.
Despite the government promoting women's participation in the engineering field, some statistics show that it has yet to be achieved. Potential reasons for this phenomenon include lower level of applications by women, or inherent gender gap in the professional field. Therefore, this study attempted to find impact of gender on college admission from the Lens Model perspective and Signal Detection Theory. This study consisted of three phases: identifying the necessary cues used in the admission process, analyzing existing data, and conducting two experiments to identify the effect of gender on admission decisions. Although the college application consisted of many cues, only five cues, school ranking, GPA, SAT score, resident status, and gender, were used to capture the officers' judgment policies for engineering admissions. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of the gender factor in college admission. The enrollment officers first were presented with the existing data without the gender and asked to make dichotomous judgments. Secondly, the officers were asked to perform the judgment task with the gender cue present. Results showed that the gender did not play an important role in the judgments as expected. However, ideographical analyses on judgment strategies revealed that there were significant differences between the admission officers. Possible training implications are discussed.
This study set out to investigate factors affecting gender-role stereotype. Data came from National Welfare Panel Study of 2010 and the final sample size were 4,196 women and 3,703 men in Korea. Hierarchical regression analysis was used for the analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, the olders, the married and the lower level of income showed more traditional gender-role attitudes. Second, the employed women have more egalitarian gender-role attitudes than the not-employed but the employed men showed more traditional gender-role attitudes. And the more educated women showed more egalitarian gender-role attitudes but men's gender-role attitudes had no difference according to the education level. Third, self-esteem did not affect gender-role attitudes. And limitations and implications of the findings from this study were discussed with respect to further studies.
