  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of tourmaline Gemstone therapy on dysmenorrhea and painful menstruation in middle school female students. Method: This study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data was collected from 15 subjects from September 1 to November 31, 2005. Tourmaline Gemstone therapy was provided once during a peak time of dysmenorrhea and painful menstruation. The instrument used were modified Moos's MDQ(Menstrual Distress Questionnaire) tool and VAS. Data was analyzed with the use SPSS. Result: There was a statistically significant difference in the dysmenorrhea(t=5.50, p=.000) and painful menstruation(t=6.49, p=.000) after the intervention with tourmaline gemstone therapy. Conclusion: Tourmaline Gemstone therapy using a Tourmaline Gemstone therapy has a positive effect on decreasing dysmenorrhea and painful menstruation.

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate the effect of tourmaline gemstone therapy on relief of dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain of the female university students. Method: A quasi-experimental study was designed. Data were collected from 39 of the Korean female university students (Exp: 26, Cont: 13) from May, 2006 to December, 2006. The collected data were analysed through $x^2$, t-test and Mann-Whitney test. Result: Dysmenorrhea was significantly decreased in the experimental group over that of the control group (p=.001). In addition, menstrual pain was also significantly decreased in the experimental group over that of the control group (p=.000). Conclusion: It was proven that tourmaline gemstone therapy was effective for dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain.

Development of Colored Gemstone Products Through Analysis of Color Preference (색채 선호 분석을 통한 유색보석 제품 개발)

  • This study aims to develop colored gemstone products based on the analysis of color preference. Colored gem stones were classified by their colors using Munsell's ten basic colors and the color preference of women consumers in their twenties was analyzed, in consideration of trend analysis and design image description analysis, which led to the direction of product development. The analysis of color preference seems to suggest that consumers preferred blue quartz, cahnite, spessartite garnet, the colors of which are rather less known to ordinary consumers, to the other more common kinds of gem stones. Through the analysis of the trends and adjectives to describe preferable design images, the current study has made it possible to explore the designs for the future development of colored jewelry products, which would satisfy the consumption value and individual tastes of the consumers. It is expected that the current study may contribute to the jewelry industries and designers as a basic data for developing colored gem stone products.

  • The various colored cubic zirconia single crystals for jewelry were grown by skull melting method of excellent productivity. The cubic zirconia is similar to the character of diamond, which has high refractive index, large dispersion and high hardness. It is possible that the development of new colored cubic zirconia by doping 3d-transition elements or 4f-rare earth elements. The colored cubic zirconia is representative of synthetic gemstone which was grown up by mixing one or over two materials among $Pr_6O_{11},\;TiO_2,\;MnO_2\;and\;Er_2O_3$ as coloring agent. Subsequent heat treatment improves the quality of color and uniformity. This study is aimed the color reappearance of cubic zirconia such as natural peridot, smoky-quartz and red-tourmaline.

A Study on Historical Research for Costume of Banya(般若) in King Gongmin's Period of Late Goryeo - Focused on the Buddhist Service Costume - (고려 말 공민왕 재위기의 반야(般若) 복식 고증요소 고찰 - 불교법회 복식을 중심으로 -)

  • Banya was a concubine slave of Shindon(辛旽) who was a powerful monk in late Goryeo Dynasty, as well as the mother of King Woo(禑王), a successor of King Gongmin(恭愍王). This study was undertaken to investigate the sources of costume for Banya. The study focused on the features of Buddhist service costume, street wear, and daywear for common women's costume during the prime age of the Buddhist culture. The study looked into Buddhist paintings, old documents, advanced research, and relics. There are three characteristics of historically investigated Buddhist service costume for Banya: Dallyeongpo(團領袍), long Jeogori made with black Ra(羅), and Jeogori with a long scarf. Skirt, under Jeogori, under skirt, Cho, Ra(羅), Neung (綾), Dan(緞), patterned ramie(紋紵), and Tapja(塔子) were included in all Buddhist service costume. And, street wear consisted of Women's Dapho(婦人搭忽), long Jeogori, skirt, underwear and black Ra beil(蒙首). Daywear consisted of Banbi(半臂), long Jeogori, and skirt, underwear made with cheap fabric, Ju(綢), ramie, and imported cotton. Plumper hair, silver comb and Biyeo, lining of light pink-colored thin silk(小紅薄絹), bronze openworked ornament that fixed the outerwear's opening, bronze needle case, Sutra box and heated gemstone could be matched for the Buddhist service costume. Bronze and heated gemstone could be used for ornaments of street wear and daywear. The investigation of ornaments was carried on by referring to presentation of overseas collections. Considering the limitation of the study on Goryeo costume due to the lack of research material, future studies including much more relics in oversea collections needs to be undertaken.

  • The coral is precious and organic gemstone. It is Beautifully Red color. Coral jewelry have been used for a long time in Asia. Especially in Korea, The Coral is an traditional and popular gemstone. It is significant to get the base data for the purpose of distinguishing natural coral from imitation coral by comparing about gemmological character in this study. Color, luster, transparency, streak color, refractive index, hardness, chemical reaction, ultraviolet fluorescence, specific gravity, observation of microscope and XRD analysis were conducted for identification of natural and imitation coral. As a result, natural coral has usually $CaCO_3$ composition and calcite structure. But, it is known that imitation coral impregnate calcic and dyeing materials with pigment. And they were distinguished also from not only XRD analysis but also a few simple experiments like specific gravity, refractive index and chemical reaction. Natural coral is harder and luster then imitation coral. In breaking method, the streak color is used certification.

Virtual Non-Contrast Computer Tomography (CT) with Spectral CT as an Alternative to Conventional Unenhanced CT in the Assessment of Gastric Cancer

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate computed tomography (CT) virtual non-contrast (VNC) spectral imaging for gastric carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two patients with histologically proven gastric carcinomas underwent gemstone spectral imaging (GSI) including non-contrast and contrast-enhanced hepatic arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phase acquisitions prior to surgery. VNC arterial phase (VNCa), VNC venous phase (VNCv), and VNC equilibrium phase (VNCe) images were obtained by subtracting iodine from iodine/water images. Images were analyzed with respect to image quality, gastric carcinoma-intragastric water contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), gastric carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR, serosal invasion, and enlarged lymph nodes around the lesions. Results: Carcinoma-water CNR values were significantly higher in VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images than in normal CT images (2.72, 2.60, 2.61, respectively, vs 2.35, $p{\leq}0.008$). Carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR values were significantly lower in VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images than in normal CT images (7.63, 7.49, 7.32, respectively, vs 8.48, p< 0.001). There were no significant differences of carcinoma-water CNR and carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR among VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images. There was no difference in the determination of invasion or enlarged lymph nodes between normal CT and VNCa images. Conclusions: VNC arterial phase images may be a surrogate for conventional non-contrast CT images in gastric carcinoma evaluation.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENIGMA FUEL PERFORMANCE CODE FOR WHOLE CORE ANALYSIS AND DRY STORAGE ASSESSMENTS

  • UK National Nuclear Laboratory's (NNL's) version of the ENIGMA fuel performance code is described, including details of the development history, the system modelled, the key assumptions, the thermo-mechanical solution scheme, and the various incorporated models. The recent development of ENIGMA in the areas of whole core analysis and dry storage applications is then discussed. With respect to the former, the NEXUS code has been developed by NNL to automate whole core fuel performance modelling for an LWR core, using ENIGMA as the underlying fuel performance engine. NEXUS runs on NNL's GEMSTONE high performance computing cluster and utilises 3-D core power distribution data obtained from the output of Studsvik Scandpower's SIMULATE code. With respect to the latter, ENIGMA has been developed such that it can model the thermo-mechanical behaviour of a given LWR fuel rod during irradiation, pond cooling, drying, and dry storage - this involved: (a) incorporating an out-of-pile clad creep model for irradiated Zircaloy-4; (b) including the ability to simulate annealing out of the clad irradiation damage; (c) writing of additional post-irradiation output; (d) several other minor modifications to allow modelling of post-irradiation conditions.

Transparent Schema Evolution using Object-Oriented View Technology (객체지향 뷰 기술을 이용한 투명한 스키마 진화)

  • 중대한 산업용 소프트웨어가 동작하는 공유된 객체지향 데이터베이스를 안전하게 변경하기 위해서는, 그 공유 데이터베이스를 변경할 동안 데이터베이스 위에서 작동하는 기존의 응용 프로그램이 지속적으로 작동되어야 한다. 데이터베이스 변경을 필요로 하는 새로운 요구사항은 새 응용 프로그램의 추가, 기존 응용 프로그램의 기능 확장, 초기 디자인 에러 수정 등으로 인하여 발생할 수 있다. 우리는 한 사람의 사용자가 다른 사용자에게 악영향을 주지 않고 데이터베이스 스키마를 변경할 수 있게 하여 이 문제를 해결하는 투명한 스키마 진화(TSE: Transparent Schema Evolution) 방법론을 소개한다. 이 방법론은 기존의 스키마를 직접 변경하는 대신 스키마 변경 연산의 의미를 반영하는 데이터베이스 큐를 공유 객체지향 데이터베이스 상에 생성하여 투명한 진화를 달성한다. 데이터베이스의 용량을 증가시키지 못하는 뷰 메카니즘의 한계를 극복하기 위하여 이 방법론은 데이터베이스 용량 증가 연산에 대하여 다음의 새 단계로 정렬된다. (1) 기저의 베이스 스키마는 데이터베이스 용량 증가를 위해 물리적으로 변호한다. (2) 데이터베이스 변경의 의미를 달성하는 목표 뷰가 위의 변화된 베이스 스키마로부터 생성된다. (3) 변화 이전의 베이스 스키마는 데이터베이스 뷰로서 재 구축된다. 이로써 기존의 다른 사용자가 정의한 데이터 인터페이스가 보존된다. 우리는 객체-지향 뷰 기술을 이용하여 스키마 변화 연산을 구현함으로써 TSE 방법론의 구현가능성(feasibility)을 확인하였다. 표준적인 객체-지향 뷰 모델이 정의되고 상용 객체-지향 데이터베이스인 잼스톤(Gemstone) 위에 구현되었다. 그 뷰 모델은 갱신 의미(semantic) 정의를 그 뷰가 베이스 스키마의 갱신 의미를 보존하도록 정의하였다. 그러한 뷰는 사용자가 그들이 실제로는 베이스 스키마가 아니라 뷰에서 작업하고 있다는 사실을 모르게 하기 위하여 TSE에서 필요하다.

Growth of $MgTiO_3 $ Single Crystals by the Floating Zone Method (F.Z,법에 의한 Mg $TiO_3 $단결정 육성)

  • Single crystals of the peritectic compound MgTiO3 up to 8 m diameter and 100mm long along the [1010] axis. were yon by the travelling solvent floating zone technique using a halogen lamp image furnace. The grown single crystal. which shows a solid solution range at high temperature, exsolves TiO2 component if it is annealed very slowly to room termperature. Grown boules were black but become translucent with pinkish brown color after tempering at 1100 t for 8-10 hours in oxygen atmosphere and showed distint chatoyancy along the (0001) plane. The grown crystal can be used as a new modified cat's eye gemstone. The optimum conditions were as follows ;Sintering temperature of the charge rod, 1300℃ the growth rate, 2-2.5mmh and the composition of the charge rod in molar ratio. MgO : TiO2 : 1:1.05.
