  • A large cage system for the purpose of fishes farming in the open sea was influenced by various forces from the ocean environment. The deformation of the cage by these forces affects the safety of the cage itself, as well as that of the cultivated creatures. In this research, theoretical model was established to analyzing dynamic movement influenced by current for cage. Also, to increase the accuracy of calculations, the reduction ratio of flow speed acquired using the flume tank experiment. Applying the reduction ratio of flow speed to the numerical calculation, the calculation values were compared with the measured values in the flume tank experiment using cage model. The results were as follows ; 1. When the flow speed of the flume tank is fixed, the decrease of the velocity of flow which is passed the upper panel side is proportion to the increase of porosity ratio of netting. 2. When the porosity ratio is fixed, the increase of the velocity of flow which is passed the upper panel side is proportion to the increase of velocity of flow. 3. When the porosity ratio and the flow speed of the flume tank are fixed, the decrease of the velocity of flow which is passed the upper panel side is proportion to the increase of attack angle. 4. As a result of comparison between the underwater shape by simulation which is applying the reduction ratio of flow speed from the experiment using plane netting and that by model experiment, it was found out that the result of the simulation was very close to that of model gear within ${\pm}$ 5 % error range.

  • In order to design and predict the performance of the harmonic side drive motor, it is necessary to analyze the torque generated by the structure. In this paper, an analytical model is proposed for design. Conformal mapping is used to model the capacitance and torque of the motor as a function of the rotor angular position with two-dimensional approximation. Then the result of conformal mapping analysis is verified with F.E.M result.

  • Complex gear shifting and high speed-reduction ratio reduce the transmission efficiency in power driveline of agricultural tractors. According to a field test, the power transmission efficiency of a tractor in transporting operations was estimated about 70%. However, the actual efficiency was found by the experiment to fluctuate in a range of 56 to 87%. Therefore, the constant efficiency model commonly used for a simulation of power drivelines is not likely to simulate its performance more accurately. In order to predict power transmission efficiency more accurately, a new model was proposed and the new concepts of the maximum efficiency and sticking torque were introduced. The error mean between the measured and the predicted efficiencies was about 2.3% in mean. The new model reflecting the transmission characteristics in the power driveline of tractors could be used to analyze and predict the power transmission performance of tractors more accurately.

  • In this study, electronically controlled automatic transmission adopted on a subcompact model in the market was modelled, and the driving performances of the transmission were simulated with the models. Kinetic and dynamic models of working components are established. The driving simulation program is developed with those models, and the various driving conditions are analyzed. With the results, the dynamic behaviour of the engine and the automatic transmission is easily understood. Especially, the transient performances of torque converter and clutches are deeply analyzed. Skipping the vehicle road test by using this analyzing tool, we can expect the cost down and the reduction of the development period of automatic transmission.

  • In this study new CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) system which is adaptable to a small size electric vehicle is proposed available to gradient response CVT. New pulleys consist of springs adapted driving pulley and driven pulley. At the moment a small electric vehicle drive a slope, new system respond to a gradient as overcoming tensional force of springs. We made prototype of gradient response CVT to test parts performance and travelling performance test. As a result of test, belt pitch diameter varied for high torque direction at the gradient. In the flat travelling, acceleration travelling and gradient travelling performance test, the small electric vehicle with gradient response CVT get improved perfomance than the small electric vehicle with reduction gear.

  • This paper proposes a new concept of a soft and wearable upper-limb exoskeleton. A novel actuation principle, called the twisted string actuation principle, is implemented to make it lightweight, soft, and therefore easily wearable. Its power transmission mechanism and harness are designed to be soft and wearable, yet have enough control accuracy for rehabilitation. In addition to force transmission optimization, a speed enlargement mechanism is newly introduced in order to increase the contraction speed of the twisted string actuation mechanism by sacrificing the unnecessarily large gear reduction ratio of the twisted string mechanism. A prototype has been tested for mirroring therapy, and the feasibility of the proposed mechanism has been shown through a sufficiently accurate tracking performance.

  • This paper describes a static gait generation process and a mechanical design process of leg mechanisms for quadruped robots. Actually robot walking is realized with the joint motion of leg mechanisms. In order to calculate the time-angle trajectories for each joint of leg mechanisms, we generate end-tip trajectories with time for each leg in the global inertial coordinate system intuitively, followed by coordinate transformations of the trajectories into the local coordinates system fixed in each leg, finally the angle-time trajectories of each joint of leg mechanisms are obtained with inverse kinematics. The stability of the gait generated in this paper was verified by a multi-body dynamic analysis using the commercial software $ADAMS^{(R)}$. Additionally the mechanical specifications such as gear reduction ratio, electrical specifications of motor and electrical power consumption during walking have been confirmed by the multi-body dynamic analysis. Finally we constructed a small quadruped robot and confirmed the gait.

  • This study was carried out to develop a continuously variable-speed transmission(CVT) for agricultural tractor. A full-toroidal CVT mechanism with four discs and six rollers was selected as a device for changing speed ratio continuously. In the step of system layout design, the sizes of roller cylinders and end-load cylinder, which were critical factors for controlling the variator, were designed. Also the control pressure range was designed to limit the contact pressure of variator. In order to make the maximum speed of vehicle as 30km/h, the planetary gear and the six pairs of gears were designed. Also the hydraulic clutch, silent chain, hydraulic manifold and electronic controller were designed. After the design, a prototype with CVT controller was developed and tested. The speed of vehicle was changed continuously to the speed set by driver and the settling time was about 0.52 second at the step-response test (reduction ratio of variator 2.0 to 1.0), which was acceptable as a response time for working with tractor.

  • In this paper, component sizing and analysis of the novel plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain configuration is conducted. Newly proposed powertrain configuration in prior study has an internal combustion engine and two electric motors. To optimize component size of the vehicle system and reduction gear ratio, component sizing methodology is proposed and conducted. Required power for vehicle's dynamic performance is calculated to decide minimum power requirement of powertrain component combination. Component size of engine and electric motor are optimized using vehicle simulation to maximize fuel economy performance. Optimized powertrain configuration and vehicle simulation results present validation of newly proposed vehicle system.

  • A cycloid speed reducer is a type of the speed reducers. The cycloid speed reducer has a eccentric rotating motion and offset to avoid some problem of assembly, so it has a disadvantage for vibration. In this paper, a multi-body dynamic model is developed for a cycloid speed reducer and the dynamic behaviors of the reducer are investigated. The cycloid speed reducer consists of cycloidal plate gears, housing gear, input shaft, output pin and shaft, and eccentric bearings. Using a CAD program, each component of cycloid reducer is modeled based on the offset and multi-body simulations are performed using Recurdyn. As a result, the pin reaction force and the amplitude of bearing displacement are increased by the offset.
