Advanced countries such as the USA and Japan are eagerly seeking ways to improve health and welfare of the elderly. One of the services is home health care service using the telephone. Various types of services using the telephone have been developed, improved and are being utilized ranging from the basic consulting to emergency response systems in the area of health care for the elderly. A demonstration project was launched to study the feasibility of a consulting system and telemedicine for the elderly using the public phone system in Korea. For this project, a gathering site for the elderly was selected and those who visited this place were interviewed to find out what kinds of services they wanted and what kind of system they needed to provide the required services. Based on the users' requests and the surrounding environment, a telephone consulting facility was established at the Research Institute of Nursing Science at Seoul National University and consulting personnel was recruited, trained and posted at the center. An Application program for home health care nurses to use when they visited the patients at their homes was developed. This system operates on a notebook Computer and allows nurses to communicate with a doctor at a local hospital through a modem and telecommunication line. These systems were implemented for three months and problems which developed during operation of the systems were identified and progressively modified. Through system evaluation, it was found that a consulting system using phone service will be an invaluable system for the welfare of the elderly in the future. But in order to meet the elderly's need, more services than mere consultation are needed. That is, communication with physicians and hospitals are needed. Thus, when there is any need for physicians' attention, physicians or hospitals should be contacted directly. Similarly for telemedicine, when the home health care nurse visits elderly patients she can assess the patient's problem and provide nursing care, access a physician or hospital to refer her patient to or consult directly using the telecommunication the system. The above mentioned system is a basic form of futuristic telemedicine for the elderly and those who have chronic disease problems. This kind of system will be of great value when it is used on the national information super-highways in the future. In order to get to that stage, of course, this project needs great improvement in the technical, academic, and legal aspects.

Elementary science textbooks are the major instructional materials which contain sceientific objectives to be acquired by students. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development system, to evaluate the inquiry activity in current elementary science testbooks, and to make suggestions for the improvement of them. The questionnaires were administered to 116 subjects that participated in development of the 5th elementary science textbooks, and 86 of the subjects responded. Based on the data gathered and analyzed in this study, the major findings are as follows. First, regarding the analysis and evaluation of elementary science textbooks. 1. The instructional objectives in elementary science textbooks are analyzed. The proportions of comprehension objectives is 38%, scientific inquiry process objectives 21%, experimental skills objectives 7%, scientific attitudes and interests objectives 4%. 2. The science concepts in elementary science textbooks of the 3rd grade required the preconcrete operational level(82%) and of the 6rd grade required the postconcrete operational level (73%) by J. Piaget 3. The inquiry activities in elementary science textbooks are emphasizing gathering and organizing results and evaluation, and hypothesizing and designing an experiment Inquiry index of the elementary science textbooks is 76. This is significantly higher than 35${\sim}$50 of America and U.K.. 4. The number of questions per class hour is mostly three, and most of them require the students to explain phenomena in nature or in experiment Second, regarding the development system of elementary science textbooks. 1. The budget for and the period of the development of elementary science textbook should be expanded. 2. For the improvement of elementary science textbooks, more abundant resources and time should be used for the basic study and the field trial of textbooks. 3. The elementary science textbook must include the affective objectives as well as the scientific knowledges and scientific inquiry skills. 4. It is not desirable to assign equal number of pages to the content of physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. 5. Closer cooperation system is needed among the ministry of education, development research center and the field trial schools.

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering interest from designers and engineers for its possible usage as a replacement reinforcement of a steel reinforcing bar due to its advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength, non-corrosive material, etc. Since it is manufactured with various contents ratios, fiber types, and shapes without any general specification, test results for concrete members reinforced with these FRP reinforcing bars could not be systematically used. Moreover, since investigations for FRP reinforced members have mainly focused on short-term behavior, the purpose of this study is to evaluate long-term behaviors of glass FRP (GFRP) reinforcing bar and concrete beams reinforced with GFRP. In this paper, test results of tensile and bond performance of GFRP reinforcing bar and creep behavior are presented. In the creep tests, results showed that 100 years of service time can be secured when sustained load level is below 55% of tensile strength of GFRP reinforcing bar. A modification factor of 0.73 used to calculate long-term deflection of GFRP reinforced beams was acquired from the creep tests for GFRP reinforced concrete beams. It is expected that these test results would give more useful information for design of FRP reinforced members.

According to Korean's geographical features of Taek Li Ji, the best location for human settlements is on the vicinity of a stream among a stream, an river and a sea, and not far from a ridge. The researcher chose one of best village which is called Yougokmaeul in Bonghwa-Gun, Kyungsang-Do. This village was created a gathering village with the same surname, can be translated as a hen and the front mountain can be seen as a rooster in the view of the shape of geographical features. As it were, the shape of this village and the cultivated land seems to be an egg inside a nest of a parent's chicken in the respect of the analogy of the theory of P'ungsuchiri which is known as Feng Shui in China and geomancy in the western world, and to effect the defensive psychology of the living environment in the terrain inland. This village is the studying place, Suckchunjungsa as the lecturing and studying place for their following students within the Chunghadonchun, the studying Yougok village, and even the ritual place performing ancestral sacrifices and the first incoming ancestor's graves in the same geographical system. The house site of the first incoming resident is surrounded the countian and is located in the front of Backsulryount which is the main mountain through Moonsu-san in the branch mountain of Korean's mountain system. Backsulryoung which is to be seen as the white peak, is symbolized the head of a hen which is to relate to a mysterious turtle in the view of P'ungsuchiri. And the pavilion which is called Chungamjung is sited on the rock of a shape of turtle which is symbolized to live longer. In the section of the mountain and water, Lee Jung Hwan mentioned a living place near the mountain stream is the best residential area and a landscape which is composed by a stream between mountains make a pleasure spirit and a bright feeling and make a refined person. If one can reach in the graceful mountain make a pleasure split and a bright feeling and make a refined person. If one can reach in the graceful mountain half day away, this kind of place must be a best living residential area to live. But this village was structured all in one place. And one of the ideas tangibly reflected in traditional Korean society's view of life and nature is the seclusion based on the Taoism. This kind of a dreamy thoughts make a dream to keep the paradise in our ancestors' mind. This kind of utopia is Chunghadonchun which is structured 5 aspects from the utopian gate near the Samgaesuewon to the village. These 5aspects is expressed by some Confucian thoughts as a small cosmos individually. On the third aspects which is the center among these aspects, the Suckchunjungsa which was made a seclusion place to devoting himself to his studies with refined tastes. The word of Jiju-am, Gangpung-dae, Jaewol-dae and Biryoung-pock are all expressed to cultivate one's moral character and to seek the truth by the Confucius'theory through the nature.

Recently, biohydrocarbons are gathering an interest as a new bioenergy due to the versatile applicability. In the present work, a process is proposed for the recovery of lipids from Recombinant E. coli MG1655 which provides longer chain fatty acids. After the growth of the recombinant E. coli, the cells were disrupted by high pressure homogenizer for obtaining intracellular lipids and the resulting solutions were centrifuged and extracted. For the efficient cell disruption with high pressure homogenizer, the pressure higher than 5,000 psi was required. In addition, under the conditions of applied pressure 5,000 to 20,000 psi, 1~3 pass homogenizing was enough for the more than 90% cell disruption. As organic solvents for extraction of lipid, hexane/isopropyl alcohol and ethyl acetate/ethanol systems showed excellent extracting power. With these solvent systems, the 60% lipid could be recovered. Moreover it was found that the extracted lipids contained long-chain fatty acids such as $C_{12}$, $C_{14}$, $C_{16}$ and $C_{18}$.
The results of this research on the diversity, zonation of vegetation and micro-topography by TWINSPAN classification and DECORANA ordination, executed with Sinduri coastal dunes of Korea, are as follows: The vegetation and micro-topography of coastal dunes formed a noticeably clear zonation structure. The beach in the direction of the coastline saw a lot of appearance of Salsola komarovi and the primary dune was dominated by Elymus mollis. Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii and Carex pumila formed a colony at flat area of the sand hills and Calamagrostis epigeios was widely distributed at the wet slack. The secondary dune was dominated mostly by Ischaemum anthephoroides and Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii, and it showed an aspect of the distribution of Vitex rotundifolia and Rosa rugosa. while the hinterland hillside in the direction of inland was dominated by Robinia pseudo-acacia and Pinus thunbergii. However, Carex kobomugi, known as the pioneer species of the coastline-bound areas at the coastal dune, dominantly occupied the secondary dune of the rear side and continentally-inclined Miscanthus sinensi and Oenothera biennis of naturalized plant were irregularly spread over the whole of the coastal dune, so the stabilization of micro-topography seemed to be uncertain. Particularly, Miscanthus sinensis was predicted to be changed into dominant species of the primary dune, and secondary dune and slack having a commonly high species gathering inclination with the more progress of stabilization of the coastal dune. The expansion of sand hill wetlands and roads located between the primary dune and secondary dune was judged to have an effect on the zonation structure of plant distribution.

This paper attempts to quantitatively assess the public value that has been assigned to this government plan by employing a contingent valuation technique. Data gathering performed that professional research firm administrated a face-to-face national survey of 1,000 randomly-selected households. A one-and-one-half-bound model was adopted to elicit willingness to pay (WTP) responses, and the payment vehicle used was income tax. The WTP model used in this study is based on a utility difference approach and the spike model. The results showed that the public value of conserving green turtles was estimated to be 2,570 Korean Won per household over the next 10 years as of 2016, statistically significant at the 1% level. Expanding the values considered to include the national population gives a public value of 48.7 billion Korean Won. Thus, the public value of rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing green turtles that have been caught by fishermen, collided with fishing boats, and died in nets through the government program is not small.
Seismic refracrion and reflection surveys were conducted along an E-W trending track of 482 m long in Ilwall-dong, Pohang. End-on spread was employed as source-receiver configuration with 2 m for both geophone interval and offset. Seismic data were acquired using 24 channels at every shot fired every 2 m along the track. Refraction data were interpreted using equations for multi-horizontal layers. Reflection data were processed in the sequence of trace edit, gain control, CMP sorting, NMO correction, mute, common offset gathering, and filtering to produce a single fold seismic section. There are two layers in shallow subsurface of the study area. Upper layer has the P-wave velocities ranging from 267 to 566 m/s and is interpreted as a layer of unconsolidated sediments. Lower layer has P-wave velocities of 1096-3108 m/s and is interpreted as weathered rock to hard rock. Most of the lower layer classified as soft rock. Upper layer has lateral variations in both P-wave velocity and thickness. The upper layer in the eastern part of the seismic line is 3-5 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 400 m/s in average. The upper layer in the western part is 8-10 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 340 m/s in average. The eastern part is interpreted as unconsolidated beach sand, while the western part is interpreted as infilled soil to develop a construction site. Three fault systems of high angle are imaged in seismic reflection section. It is interpreted that the area between these fault systems are relatively safe. Large buildings should be located in the safe ground condition of no fault and footings should be designed to be in the basement rock of 3-10 m deep below the surface.
Kim Deuk-yeon(金得硏), who lived at the age of Chosun Dynasty, was the person who kept the parents's will of not serving as a government officias even though he had the ability of serving those positions. He made his composition at the Jisujeong(止水亭), a kind of pavilion which he had built, and the Sijo(時調) Sanjungjapgok(山中雜曲) is one of those compositions. This sugggestes that Sanjungjapgok has a close relation with the Jisujeong(止水亭) which he opreated on his own. So the purpose of this study is focused on analyzing the Sanjungjapgok based on his goal of operating the Jisujeong. The middle age of Chosun dynasty was the era when the pavilion had been prevail even to the average aristocrats who stayed just in local area. Kim Deuk-yeon seems to have had a great endeavor of operating his own pavilion; he had prepared to build Jisujeong for about 30 years. This resulted in his affection of the Jisujeong, which caused him to spend the last part of his life there. Sanjungjapgok consists of 49 pieces of peom and seems to have been written after compositing Jisujeongga(止水亭歌). Even though it has the same title, it doesn't have lots of relations for us to regard this as a Yeonsijo(聯詩調). But this also has the properties of Yeonsijo, whoch contatins 14 Yeonjaksijo(聯作時調) composed of Yeonsijo which has 2 to six lines. The subject of the Sanjungjapgok can be classified as a four major parts: appreciating the nature, study, gathering to make the poem, and taking a rest while satisfied with his own situation. These four properties reflect the function of the private pavilion. In the light of these four properties, I noticed that there were some contents dealing with the private pavilion. Given his social status, I was able to confirm that he had the considerable satisfaction with his life of operating the private pavilion, which was reflected by the Sanjungjapgok.
Problem-Based Learning is the most commonly used teaching method in the field of education as the demand for talented people with creative problem-solving abilities has increased in recent society. In this study, we developed a tool that can simply and regularly measure the learning effects of applying Problem-Based Learning on the classroom. Twenty-two preliminary items for the development were constructed by gathering expert opinions about items collected in existing research of Problem-Based Learning effects measurement. Using this preliminary items, data were collected from 124 students who took the subject-based study. And the validity and reliability were verified through Rash analysis. 11 of 124 students and 1 of 22 items were found to nonconforming and excluded. In addition, the optimal scale for the configuration of this tool was found to be a four-point scale, and the reliability of separation on the subject and the item was found to be excellent. We hope that the assessment tools of Problem-Based Learning effectiveness developed in this study will be actively used to measure learning effectiveness and manage the quality of education.
