Gasoline engines have proven their utility in light, medium and heavy duty vehicles. Concern about long term availability of petroleum and the environment norms by the increased vehicular emission have mandated the search for safe fuel. CNG is an environmentally clean alternative to the existing spark ignition engines with the advantages of minimum change. A higher octane number and a higher self ignition temperature make it an attractive gaseous fuel. The thermal efficiency is better than gasoline for the same engine. The reduced carbon mono oxide, carbon di-oxide, hydrocarbon emissions is a favorable outcome along with a slight increase in $NO_x$ emission when compared with gasoline fuel to a dual fuel mode in the existing spark ignition engines. The result from the experiment shows that CNG could be a potential substitute fuel that maintains performance and emissions characteristics in gasoline engines.

On the cold start of LPG engine, as the engine temperature has not reached its equilibrium temperature, liquid LPG could not be changed perfectly gaseous LPG, although it was passed to the vaporizer. Liquid and gas mixed fuel could influence starting ability and exhaust emission characteristics of LPG engine. In this study, the vaporization characteristic of liquid LPG was investigated with a conventional vaporizer and the vaporizer with heat source(glow plug) installed at preheated chamber inlet, by using the visualization methods and engine test. According to visualization result, even if the engine coolant temperature was $14^{\circ}C$, liquid fuel was supplied to primary chamber over 25 seconds without vaporizing from preheated chamber in such a conventional vaporizer. However, the vaporizer with heat source do not correspond with that, scarcely had been trim on glow plug when LPG began to vaporize. The effectiveness of heat source could be verified by application to the conventional LPG engine.

A heat transfer model of the intake valve in a spark ignition engine is presented, which is calibrated with a number of the valve temperature profiles measured during engine warm-up for the gaseous fuel(propane). The valve is divided into four identical elements for which the assumption of lumped thermal mass is applied. The calibration is made so that the difference between the measued and simulated valve temperatures becomes minimal. Then the model is applied to the cases of the liquid fuel(indolene) to estimate the amount of the liquid fuel vaporized from the intake valve by assuming that fuel evaporation accounts for the deficit of the heat balance budget. The results of the model show quantitative contribution of each heat transfer source to the heat balance. The behavior of the calculated mass fraction of the fuel vaporized from the intake valve explains how the liquid fuel evaporate during engine warm-up. The mass fraction at warmed-up condition is closely related with the fraction directly targeted on the valve back by the fuel spray geometry.

In this paper, a two-dimensional cross-channel model was applied to investigate influence of the gas diffusion layer(GDL) property and flow field geometry in the anode side for proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC). The GDL is made of a porous material such as carbon cloth, carbon paper, or metal wire mesh. To the simplicity, the GDL is represented as a block of material containing numerous pathways through which gaseous reactants and liquid water can pass. The purpose of present work was to study the effect of the GDL thickness and the porosity, and flow field geometry by computational fluid dynamics(CFD)
The synthesis of high purity and ultra-fine $BaTiO_3$ by precipitation with gaseous $NH_3$ as precipitator was investigated to find an alternative process to solve various problems of recent wet methods. A synthesis process for $BaTiO_3$ powder using $NH_3$ gas as a precipitator in a bubble column reactor was experimentally successful in developing the production process of piezoelectric ceramic $BaTiO_3$ powder. And a 2.33m1/sec is approprite for the feed flow rate, $BaTiO_3$ powder produced under above the condition is spherical type, its particle size was about $0.2{\mu}m$.

This study was conducted for a rapid and simple method using GC/FID and SPME to dectermin gasonline and chlorinated solvents simultaneity. A sodium chloride concentration of 25%(vol/w) combined with such as magnetic stirried, an absorption time of 20min, an extraction temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$, the volume of minimized 50mL of gaseous phase and a desorption time of 5min pleprovided the greatest sensitivity while maintaining analytical efficiency. Analytical parameter such as linearity was also evaluated. The linear range extend from 30 to 500ppb. The results of chlorinated solvents and gasoline mixed samples showed that solvents have been completely removed from the sample preparation step and more accurated than those obtained by the other methods.
A newly designed torsion pendulum operating at high pressures and various temperatures has been constructed. The High Pressure Torsion Pendulum(HPTP) is capable of containing gaseous pressure to 690MPa(100, 000psi) and operating at temperatures from-$100^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$. A glass fiber braid is installed between two sample holders to accommodateliquid samples. The HPTP was fully automated and computerized using an IBM-AT personal computer to control initiation of oscillation, collect digitized data, and calculate the shear and loss moduli from damped curves, The curing process of an epoxyamine(DGEBA-DDS) system under various pressures up to 124 MPa(18, 000 psi) at $150^{\circ}C$has been successfully carried out and some results are presented.

Leak-before-break(LBB) approach has been shown to be both cost and risk effective by reducing maintenance cost and occupational exposure when applied to high energy piping in nuclear power plants. For Korean Next Generation Reactor(KNGR) development, LBB is considered for the Main Steam Line(MSL) piping inside containment. Unlike the reactor coolant piping leakages which can be detected by particulate and gaseous radiation monitoring, main steam line leak detection systems must be based on principles that do not involve radioactivity. Ceramics are widely used as humidity sensor materials which can be further developed for nuclear applications. In this paper, we describe the progress in the development of ceramic humidity sensors for use with the main steam lines of KNGR.
Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that convert the chemical reaction energy directly into the electrical energy. In a typical fuel cell, gaseous fuel is fed continuously to the anode(negative electrode) compartment and the oxidant(i.e, oxygen from air) is fed continuously to the cathode(positive electrode) compartment; the electrochemical reactions take place at the electrodes to produce an electric current. Many of the operational characteristics of fuel cell systems are superior to those of conventional power generation system because of good efficiency, environmental protection, safty, modularity etc. From those reasons, the fuel cells are considered to be the solution to the future problem of energy conversion. The objective of this paper is to introduce the technical status of fuel cell technologies and our national project for the development of the phosporic acid fuel cell.
The application of a pulsed power system is being extended to an environmental and industrial field. The non-destructive gaseous pollutants from industrial plants such as power generation plants and incinerators can be processed by applying high voltage pulses with a fast rising time (a few nanoseconds) and short duration (nano to microseconds) in a pulsed corona discharge reactor. The pulsed plasma generator with a triggered switch has been developed. Its corona current in load can be adjusted by applied voltage and repetition rate. We investigated the performance of the pulsed plasma generator by analyzing the concentration of ozone in small reactor. This paper describes the electrical characteristics of the pulse generator with a voltage of 30 kV at repetition rate of 50 PPS. In addition, we briefly discuss a configuration of the system and initial test results.
