Design of LNG fuel tank for a light duty truck and numerical analysis of heat leak to LNG tank

  • The LNG tank are properly designed to fit with the limited installation space of a light duty truck, Hyundai Porter II. This designed LNG tank has 36 liter capacity, so two LNG tanks installed on Porter II truck allow it to run about 432 km per fueling. It is almost two times greater than CNG mileage for same truck. To analyze the relationship between car acceleration and heat leak for different fuel vapor/liquid ratios, the modified Fortran program "Pro-Heatleak" is used. Computational analysis shows that the relationship between the heat leak and vapor/liquid ratio is linearly inversed. Heat leak increases with increasing of car acceleration when fuel vapor/liquid ratio is less than 0.5 and decreases when fuel vapor/liquid ratio is greater than 0.5. The difference between maximum and minimum heat leak for full tank is about 12 percents. For the fuel vapor/liquid ratio equal to 0.5 heat leak does not depend on car acceleration.

연료전지용 천연가스 자열개질기의 기초특성 연구 (Study on Basic Characteristics of Natural Gas Autothermal Reformer for Fuel Cell Applications)

  • Hydrogen production using current fueling facilities is essential for near-term applications of fuel cells. A preliminary process for developing a natural gas autothermal reforming (ATR) reactor for fuel cells is presented in this paper. A experimental reactor for methane ATR was constructed and used for characterization of Jin reactor. Temperature profiles of the reactor were observed, and reformed gas compositions were analyzed to evaluate efficiency, conversion and reaction heat with varying amounts of $O_2/CH_4$ at selected furnace temperature and $H_2O/CH_4$. The amount of $O_2/CH_4$ showed strong offsets on reactor temperature, efficiency and conversion indicating that $O_2/CH_4$ is a crucial operation condition. Operation conditions which result in thermal neutrality of ATR reactor system were determined for two cases of an ATR system based on the estimation of enthalpy difference between reactants of assumed inlet temperatures and the products from experimental results. The determined conditions for thermally neutral operations could be used for guidelines to design reformers and for determining the operation parameters of a self sustaining ATR reactor.

  • 수소는 차량에 충전 시 급격한 온도변화와 압력상승으로 인해 정확한 충전량의 측정이 어렵다. 수소 인프라 구축을 위하여 상거래 시 민감한 문제가 될 수 있는 충전량 정밀 측정 기술은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 수소 충전기의 계량 관리를 위한 연구의 일환으로 국내 수소 충전소의 계량정확성 평가를 실시하였다. 실험을 위하여 표준유량계법을 적용한 장비를 제작하고 실제 수소자동차의 충전 환경에서 유량을 측정하였다. 그 결과 평균적으로 10% 내외의 오차가 발생하였으며, 1대 충전 당 수소 손실량은 최대 60g까지 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다.

  • The 36 liter LNG tank is designed to fit in the limited installation space of a small truck. Two LNG tanks allow one ton truck to run about 432 km per fueling. which is about 1.8 times longer than CNG mileage for the same truck. The variation of BOG with car acceleration for the different fuel liquid/vapor ratios in a tank is analysed by the modified Fortran program "Pro-Heatleak". Computational analyses show that the relationship between the BOG and liquid/vapor ratio is linearly proportional at a given acceleration. Fuel consumption decreases the volume of liquid fuel in the tank but increases the specific BOG. BOG increases with increasing of car acceleration when fuel liquid/vapor ratio is greater than 0.5 and decreases with increasing of car acceleration when fuel liquid/vapor ratio is less than 0.5. The difference between maximum and minimum BOG for full tank is about 12 percents. For the fuel liquid/vapor ratio equal to 0.5 BOG does not depend on car acceleration.

일반형 주유기의 셀프 주유시스템 구축 (A Study on the self fuel fueling system development of a regular type lubricator)

  • 본 논문에서는 마이크로프로세서를 사용하여 주유소 이용자가 주유기 조작방법을 모르더라도 직접 주유할 수 있는 간단한 인터페이스를 구현하고자 한다. 현재 주유소 이용자가 직접 주유할 수 있는 셀프 주유기가 상용화 되어있지만 셀프 주유기를 별도로 설치 해야하며, 주유 과정이 복잡하여 셀프 주유를 꺼리는 실정이다. 이러한 과정을 신용카드나 현금을 이용하여 주유 금액을 결재하면 모든 과정이 자동적으로 처리되어 주유기 조작법을 모르더라도 간단하게 주유할 수 있으며, 주유소에서는 셀프 주유를 하기 위해 셀프 주유기를 따로 구매할 필요 없이 간단한 회로를 인터페이스 하여 셀프 주유를 병행할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하고자 한다.

  • The present paper is devoted to investigate dynamic effect and steady-state performance of methane autothermal reformer theoretically and numerically. In order to simplify the complicated phenomena in the system, axisymmetric heterogeneous reactor model is developed. As autothermal reaction takes places on catalyst surface between bulk gas and catalyst, volume averaging method is incorporated using porous medium approach. To understand the start-up process which occurs in the reactor is highly important. Therefore, in this paper we get various goverining equations to find out transient and steady solutions and time scale for start-up introducing dimensionless variables. Start-up is a significant issue in reforming reaction for automobile system and fueling of SOFC-based auxiliary power units. This paper deals with characteristics of heat and mass transfer and predicted light-off time in the reformer as oxygen to carbon ratio ($O_2$/C) and amount of feeding gas.

수소스테이션용 $20\;Nm^3$/hr급 수소제조장치 개발 (Development of $20\;Nm^3$/hr Hydrogen Generator for Hydrogen Fueling Station)

  • In this study, $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator which can be apply to the hydrogen station was manufactured and tested. The design of $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator was upgraded on the base of $5\;Nm^3/hr$ scale plate hydrogen generator concept stacking the plate reactors. Ideas for improving system efficiency such as heat recovery from the exhaust, exhaust duct which is especially design for plate type reactor, reinforcement of insulation, enlargement of heat exchange area of reactor, introduction of desulphurizer reactor and PROX rector in a compact design etc. were applied. From the performance test, we can learn that the $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator can be operated steadily at 100% road condition and the methane conversion of over 94%(at S/C=3.75) was obtained. This result shows that the concept of plate type hydrogen generator can be scale-up to the $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale and fit for hydrogen generator for on site hydrogen station application.

수소-CNG 복합충전소 정량적 위험성평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Quantitative Risk Assessment of Hydrogen-CNG Complex Refueling Station)

  • 본 연구는 기존의 CNG충전소에 복합으로 수소충전소를 건설하는 형태의 수소-CNG 복합충전소에 대한 정량적 위험성평가를 수행하였다. 수소충전소와 CNG충전소에서 발생할 수 있는 사고시나리오를 도출하고 각 시나리오에 대한 사고발생빈도를 고려하여 개인적, 사회적 위험도를 계산하였다. 위험성평가 결과 사회적 위험도는 허용가능 범위에 들어 왔으나, 개인적 위험도에 있어서는 일부 지역에서 허용범위를 벗어나는 구간이 발생하였고, 위험성기여도 분석을 통해 고위험요소를 발굴하였다. 수소-CNG 복합충전소에서는 CNG 저장용기, 압축기, 제어 판넬에서 대규모 누출이 발생할 경우 높은 위험도를 보이게 되며 충전소 전체 위험도의 약 88%를 기여하게 된다. 따라서 이러한 고 위험요소에 대하여는 주기적이고 집중적인 안전관리가 이루어져야 한다.

자동차연료로서 CNG의 경제성 분석 (Benefit Analysis of CNG as an Automobile Fuel)

  • 전 세계적으로 급성장하고 있는 자동차연료로 압축천연가스(CNG)의 사용이 일반화되고 있다. 1996년도에 100만 대이던 CNG자동차가 2006년도에는 5배가 증가하였으며, 지금도 계속 증가하고 있는 추세이다. CNG연료는 가솔린 및 디젤연료에 비하여 효율적이고 완전연소에 가까워 청정연료로서 적합하다. 또한 배출 가스로서 일산화탄소, 탄화수소 및 질소산화물 등이 다른 연료에 비하여 유리하며, 경제적인 면에서도 투자가치가 있다. 본 연구에서는 천연가스자동차의 환경적인 특성화 효율적이고 경제적인 면에서 고찰하고자 한다.

  • This research investigated variations of the engine performance and the exhaust emission characteristic of a direct injection diesel engine by fueling a commercial diesel fuel, which was blended with the di-ether group (butyl-ether: BE). The smoke emission reduced to 26% from the diesel engine with the blending fuel (diesel fuel 80 vol-% + BE 20 vol-%)at the full engine load of 2500 rpm compared to it with the diesel fuel only. The power, torque and brake specific energy consumption of the diesel engine showed very slight differences. The NOx emission from the diesel engine, however, with the blended fuel was higher than with the commercial diesel fuel only. By applying EGR method, as a counter plan of the NOx reduction, this research obtained reductions of the smoke and NOx emission at the same time from the diesel engine with the BE blended diesel fuel.
