  • Self flue gas recirculation flow is an effective method for low NOx emission in a regenerative low NOx burner. The object of this study is to analyze self flue gas recirculating flow by varying the jet velocity of the combustion air. Fuel and air flow rates are fixed and combustion air jet nozzle diameters are 13, 6.5 and 5mm. The stoichiometric line is obtained from the concentration of fuel using the acetone PLIF technique. It is found that self flue gas recirculating flow is entrained into that line using the two color PIV technique. As the jet velocity of combustion air is increased, the flue gas entrainment rate into the stoichiometric line is increased. This result suggests that NOx emission can be reduced due to the effects of flue gas lowering the flame temperature.

  • In the present study, the characteristics of upward bubble flow were experimentally investigated in a liquid bath. The velocity of upward bubble flow was calculated for two different experimental conditions:1) bubble flow without kinetic energy 2) bubble flow with kinetic energy. Bubble flow without kinetic energy starts to undergo the effect of buoyancy l0cm away from the nozzle. Whereas. kinetic energy is dominant before 30 cm away from the nozzle in bubble flow but after this point kinetic energy and inertial force are applied on bubble flow at the same time In addition, as the flow rate increases the maximum velocity point moves to the nozzle. The velocity Profiles near free surface is extremely irregular due to surface flow. Gas volume fraction is high near the nozzle due to gas concentration. but decreases with the increasement of axial position. Gas volume fraction does not vary after the axial position, z=60 in spite of the increasement of flow.

  • Based on the viscous flow characteristics of gas through capillary tube, a simple and cheap gas mixing system was developed for controlling gas compositions in CA chambers. The gas flow rate through capillary tube had a linear relationship with pressure, (length)$^{-1}$ and (radius)$^4$ of capillary tube, which agreed well with Hagen-Poiseuille’s law. The relationship between flow rate and combined parameters was described as Q=0.000209724($\pi$ r$^4$P/$\mu$L) and the coefficient of determination was 0.9984. The developed system could control gas concentrations in CA chambers within $\pm$0.3% deviation compared to the preset concentrations. It was possible to predict the required time and required gas flow rate for exchanging the gs in CA chamber to a certain concentration of gas by using the mathematical model developed in this study.

  • To investigate the supercavity geometry and gas flow structure for the supercavities with two closure types under the different flow conditions, an inhomogeneous multiphase model with the SST turbulence model was established, and validated by experimental results. The results show that two distinct regions exist inside the supercavity, which include the downstream flow region along the gas-water interface and the reverse flow region. For the twin-vortex supercavity, the internal gas leaks from the supercavity boundary by two paths: the supercavity surface and the two-vortex tubes. Increasing Froude number leads to more internal gas stripped from the supercavity surface. Two types of gas loss exist for the re-entrant jet supercavity with high Froude number, one type is the steady process of gas loss, and the major gas-leaking path is the supercavity surface rather than supercavity closure region. The other type is the unsteady periodic ejection, and the gas cluster of periodic ejection is merely a small part of the gas stored inside the supercavity.

  • This study is focused on the channel design of bipolar plate in the electrode of hydrogen gas generator. The characteristics of hydrogen gas generation was studied in view of efficiency of hydrogen gas generation rate and a tendency of gas flow through the riv design of electrode. Since the flow rate of generated gas is the most crucial in determining the efficiency of hydrogen gas generator, we adopted the commercial analytical program of COMSOL $Multiphysics^{TM}$ to calculate the theoretical flow rate of hydrogen gas from the outlet of gas generator.

  • A numerical study has been conducted to characterize the transient flow in a utility gas turbine burning natural gas. The solution domain encompasses the supply gas pressure regulator to the combustor of the gas turbine that employs multi-nozzle fuel injectors. Some results produced for verification in the present study agree suite well with the experimental ones. It is found that the total gas flow may decrease noticeably during its combustion mode change, which would be the reason of momentary combustion upset, when a reference case of opening ratios of control valves in the system is applied. Several parameters are then varied in order to make the total gas flow stable over that period of time. Results of this study may be useful to understand the unsteady behavior of combustion system burning natural gas.

  • A considerable deal of work has been carried out to get an insight into the gas-solid suspension flows and to specify the particle motion and its influence on the gas flow field. In this paper an attempt is made to develop an analytical model to study the effect of nozzle inlet/exit pressure ratio, particle/gas loading and the particle diameter effect on gas-solid suspension flow. The effect of the particle/gas loading on the mass flow, Mach number, thrust coefficient and static pressure variation through the nozzle is analyzed. The results obtained show that the presence of particles seems to reduce the strength of the shock wave. It is also found that smaller the particle diameter is, bigger will be the velocity as bigger particle will have larger slip velocity. The suspension flow of smaller diameter particles has almost same trend as that of single phase flow with ideal gas as working fluid. Depending on the ambient pressure, the thrust coefficient is found to be higher for larger particle/gas loading or back pressure ratio.

  • Submerged gas-injected system can be applied to various industrial field such as metallurgical and chemical processes, So this study aims at presenting the relevant relationship between gas phase and liquid phase in a gas-injected bath. In a cylinderical bath, local gas volume fraction and bubble frequency were measured by electroconductivity probe and oscilloscope. The temperature of each phase was measured using thermocouple and data acquisition system. In vertical gas injection system, gas-liquid two phase plume was formed, being symmetry to the axial direction of injection nozzle and in a shape of con. Lacal gas-liquid flow becomes irregular around the injection nozzle due to kinetic energy of gas and the flow variables show radical change at the vicinity of gas(air) injection nozzle As most of the kinetic energy of gas was transferred to liquid in this region, liquid started to circulate. In this reason, this region was defined as 'developing flow region' The Bubble was taking a form of churn flow at the vicinity of nozzle. Sometimes smaller bubbles formed by the collapse of bubbles were observed. The gas injected into liquid bath lost its kinetic energy and then was governed by the effect of buoyancy. In this region the bubbles which lost their kinetic energy move upward with relatively uniform velocity and separate. Near the gas nozzle, gas concentration was the highest. But it started to decrease as the axial distance increased, showing a Gaussian distribution.

  • The influence of the slip flow on the MEMS/MST based gas-lubricated proceeding bearing is investigated. Based on the modified Reynolds equation, the numerical analysis of the finite difference method was developed by applying the first order slip flow approximation. The numerical prediction of bearing performance provides the significant results concerning the slip flow effect in micro scale gas-lubricated proceeding bearing. The result indicates that the load-carrying capacity as well as the rotordynamic coefficients were significantly reduced due to the slip flow. Through this work, it is concluded that the slip flow effect could not be ignored in the micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearing.

  • Dynamic flow characteristics of a solenoid valve are affected by pressure difference in inlet and outlet of orifice, gas temperature, and supply voltage of a coil. In this paper, the dynamic flow characteristics for deviations of various conditions are studied Static and dynamic flow for variation on-time of a solenoid valve open signal are measured in basic bench test. The solenoid valve is applied to a compressed natural gas(CNG) engine test for validation of flow control performance. The experimental results show that flow of high pressure gas can controlled precisely by using a solenoid valve.
