  • A study has been conducted to develop an aluminum EGR cooler for the LPL EGR system of a diesel engine. Aluminum has a much lower density and thermal conductivity that is about 12 times or more than that of stainless steel, so it is advantageous for use in an EGR cooler for weight reduction and cooling performance effects. A design process has been carried out to ensure heat dissipation performance in a restricted space to investigate the geometric parameters and satisfy the requirements for pressure drops at both fluid sides. The tubes of exhaust gas have been designed as extruded tubes. An aluminum EGR cooler consisting of extruded tubes entails a simpler manufacturing process compared to a stainless steel EGR cooler with conventional heat transfer fins. A prototype has been manufactured from the final model selected through the design process. The performance of the aluminum EGR cooler was evaluated and compared with that of the conventional one. The weight of the aluminum EGR cooler is reduced by 22.9%, while performance is significantly improved.

하이브리드 디젤엔진용 EGR 쿨러의 열교환 효율 연구 (A Study on Heat Exchange Efficiency of EGR Cooler for Diesel Hybrid)

  • Cooled EGR system is an effective method for the reduction of $NO_x$ emission and PM emission from a diesel engine. Proper choice of wavy cooling fins and gas tubes is a key factor of cooled EGR system. As a part of solutions for energy crisis and environmental problems, hybrid vehicles mounted with diesel engines are under development globally. This study investigates the cooled EGR systems for hybrid diesel engine with the specifications of both optimized wavy cooling fins and improved shape of structure to verify the heat exchange efficiency, outlet temperature and gas pressure drop of cooler by means of numerical analyses and rig performance tests. The output of this study will be applied to a 2.0L hybrid diesel engine which is being developed for domestic and overseas market.

  • Recently, technical trend for machine tools is focused on enhancement of speed and accuracy. High speedy processing causes thermal and structural deformation of objects from the machine tools. Water cooler has to be applied to machine tools to reduce the thermal negative influence with accurate temperature controlling system. Existing On-Off control type can't control temperature accurately because compressor is operated and stopped repeatedly and causes increment of power consumption and decrement of the expected life of compressor. The goal of this study is to minimize temperature error in steady state. In addition, control period of an electronic expansion valve were considered to increment of lifetime of the machine tools and quality of product with a water cooler. PI controller is designed using type of hot-gas bypass for precise control of temperature. Gain of PI is decided easily by method of critical oscillation response, excellent performance of control is shown with 4.24% overshoot and ${\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$error of steady state. Also, error range of temperature is controlled within $0.2^{\circ}C$although disturbance occurs.

  • 최근 공작기계 분야에서 가공속도와 가공정밀도 같은 시스템 성능이 한층 요구되고 있다. 특히 가공속도가 증가함에 따라 공작기계와 수가공 분야의 공작물 가공 부위에 유해한 열 발생을 초래하게 된다. 이 열은 가공 정밀도를 저하시키는 주된 원인으로 작용한다. 따라서 온도를 제어하는 오일쿨러는 공작기계에서 필수적이다. 일반적으로 두 가지 대표적인 제어기법인 핫가스 바이패스 방식과 압축기 가변속 제어 방식이 오일쿨러에 채택 되었다. 본 논문에서는 오일 출구 온도를 설정값으로 유지하기 위해 압축기의 속도를 제어하였다. 공작기계의 정밀 가공이 요구되는 추세에 맞추어 ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$의 고정도 온도 제어가 가능한 오일쿨러가 요구된다. 그러나 정밀 온도제어가 가능한 오일쿨러는 가격이 고가이다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 on/off(릴레이) 제어방식 대신에 PID 제어기와 위상각 전력제어 방식을 사용하여 정밀 온도제어가 가능한 오일쿨러용 제어기를 제안한다. 제안한 제어기를 제작하고, $23^{\circ}C$, $24^{\circ}C$ 그리고 $25^{\circ}C$에서 실험하였다.

An Experimental Study on Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Characteristics of Carbon Dioxide During Gas Cooling Process in a Hellically Coiled Tube

  • The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during 9as cooling process of $CO_2$ (R744) in a helically coiled copper tube with the inner diameter of 4.55 mm and outer diameter of 6.35 mm were investigated experimentally. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump. a mass flow meter a pre-heater and a helically coiled type gas cooler (test section). The refrigerant mass fluxes are varied from 200 to $800kg/m^2s$ and the inlet pressures of gas cooler are 7.5 to 10.0 MPa. The heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ in a helically coiled tube are higher than those in a horizontal tube. The Pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler shows a relatively good agreement with those predicted by Ito's correlation developed for single-phase in a helically coiled tube. The local heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ agrees well with the correlation by Pitla et al. However. at the region near pseudo-critical temperature. the experiments indicate higher values than the Pitla et al correlation. Therefore, various experiments in helically coiled tubes have to be conducted and it is necessary to develop the reliable and accurate prediction determining the heat transfer and pressure drop of $CO_2$ in a helically coiled tube.

내부 열교환기를 이용한 R744용 초임계 냉동사이클의 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of R744 (Carbon Dioxide) Transcritical Refrigeration System Using Internal Heat Exchanger)

  • This paper considers the influence of internal heat exchangers to the efficiency of a refrigerating system. These internal heat exchangers(liquid-suction or suction-line heat exchangers) can, in some cases, yield improved system performance while in other cases they degrade system performance. A steady state mathematical model is used to analysis the performance characteristics of refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger. The influence of operating conditions, such as gas cooler pressure and evaporation temperatures, superheat in the evaporator and temperature of gas cooler outlet, to optimal dimensions of the heat exchanger is also analyzed in the paper. The main results were summarized as follows : the mass flowrate of R744, inner diameter tube and length of internal heat exchanger, and effectiveness have an effect on the cooling capacity, compressor work and RCI(Relative capacity index) of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the R744 compression refrigeration cycle using internal heat exchanger.

  • Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant converts coal to syngas, which is mainly composed with hydrogen and carbon monoxide, by the gasification process and produces electric power by the gas and steam turbine combined cycle power plant. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of gasification process to type and structure of gasifier. For this purpose, the performance characteristics of gasification reaction are analyzed with the operation characteristic of pilot-scale 2-stage coal gasifier. It is found that gasification reaction, floating characteristic of melted slag, particle stick of inside of the gasifier, particle stick and deposit of Syngas cooler are the causes in the different performance characteristics.

  • Nitrogen oxide(NOx) emission reductions are required to meet the strict emission regulations for environmental protection. Most of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation(EGR) system applied to a diesel engine can relatively decrease the NOx at a low cost, but it has a disadvantage in that the PM generation is promoted due to the hot intake air temperature. Thus, high heat exchange efficiency of the EGR cooler is required for an effective removal of NOx. In this study, heat exchange efficiency for various types of heat exchangers used in EGR cooler was measured under same conditions, and determined best heat exchange performance shape depending on type of heat exchanger.

  • 본 논문에서는 hot-gas를 이용한 다양한 바이패스 제어 방식 중에서 증발기 흡입부 방식에 대해 각각의 성능에 영향을 미치는 외기온도, 출수온도, 과열 및 과냉도 등에 대해서 알아보았다. 그 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 우선, 증발기 흡입부로 hot-gas를 바이패스 하였을 경우에 냉동장치의 성능은 외기온도, 출수온도, 과열 및 과냉도 등에 영향을 받는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 이러한 변수에 대한 최적화를 통해 본 냉동장치의 기초 설계 자료를 제공할 수 있다. 그리고 증발기 흡입부 hot-gas 바이패스 방식의 운전특성을 고찰하여 본 논문에서 제안하는 냉동장치에 대한 적용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

유리화공정 고온영역에서의 방사성 배기체 유동해석 (Numerical Analysis of Off-Gas Flow in Hot Area of the Vitrification Plant)

  • 유리화공정 고온영역에서의 방사성 배기체 유동해석을 해석하기 위하여 상용 수치해석 범용 툴인 FLUENT를 이용하여 적용성을 검토하여 보았다. 수치해석을 통하여 유리화공정 원형설비에 영향을 미치는 인자를 파악하였는데, 저온용응로, 배관냉각기 및 고온필터 등의 세 단계로 나누어 해석을 수행하였다. 저온용융로의 경우 폐기물 처리용량에 따른 해석과 저온용융로 내부 과잉산소 공급 비에 따른 연소지연 가능성에 대한 수치해석을 수행하였다. 배관냉각기의 경우에는 각종 수치 모델 및 외벽 열전달계수를 확보하였으며 또한 방사성 핵종의 거동을 모사할 수 있는 수치적 기업을 검토하였다. 이러한 방법론을 적용하여 핵종의 열교환기 내부에서의 응고 특성에 대하여 고찰하였다. 수평 유입형식의 인입관이 있는 일반적인 형상과 유입구가 필터 내부에 수직으로 있는 고온필터의 수치해석을 통하여 인입관의 위치에 따른 고온필터의 작동 특성을 비교하였다.
