On the intra-granular behaviour of a cocktail of inert gases in oxide nuclear fuel: Methodological recommendation for accelerated experimental investigation

  • Besides recent progresses in the physics-based modelling of fission gas and helium behaviour, the scarcity of experimental data concerning their combined behaviour (i.e., cocktail) hinders further model developments. For this reason, in this work, we propose a modelling methodology aimed at providing recommendations for accelerated experimental investigations. By exploring a wide range of annealing temperatures and cocktail compositions with a physics-based modelling approach we identify the most interesting conditions to be targeted by future experiments. To corroborate the recommendations arising from the proposed methodology, we include a sensitivity analysis quantifying the impact of the model parameters on fission gas and helium release, in conditions representative of high and low burnup.

  • Nowadays, the companies use polymer materials for many purposes fur they have many advantages. The costs of these materials take up too high a proportion of the overall cost of products that use these materials as their major material. It is advantage for polymer industries to reduce these costs. The microcellular foaming process was developed in the early 1980s to solve this problem and proved to be quite successful. Microcellular foaming process uses inert gases such as $CO_2,\;N_2$. As these gases solve into polymer matrices, many properties are changed. The microcellular foaming process makes the glass transition temperature of polymers to low, and diminish the residual stress of polymer matrices. Besides, the microcellular foaming process has several merits, impact strength elevation, thermal insulation, noise insulation, and raw material saving etc. In previous research, many facts of microcellular foaming process are founded its characteristics. But previous researcher found the characteristics of microcellular foaming process with pure gas, for example $CO_2,\;N_2$ and so on, they did not found the characteristics of microcellular foaming process with one more gases. If one more gases inlet the resin, the characteristics of microcellular foaming process is changed very amazingly. In this paper, discuss on the characteristics of microcellular foaming process wi th gas cocktail about cell morphology.

Analysis of Propionic acid Production in Joraengyi Rice Cake during Storage (조랭이떡 저장 중 천연유래 프로피온산 생성 특성 분석)

  • The objective of this study was to examine the natural origin of propionic acid in rice cakes by investigating the growth characteristics of the microflora and their production of propionic acid in the Joraengyi rice cake during storage period. The experiment was done in two stages within a period of three month: the rice cake fresh and contaminated with cocktail propionibacterium. The propionic acid production was analyzed according to the storage time and temperature by GC-FID (Gas chromatograph with flame ionization detector). During the storage of the fresh Joraengyi rice cake without alcohol at $30^{\circ}C$, about 95 mg/L of propionic acid was detected in 1st week, 330 mg/L in 4th week, 850 mg/L in 6th week, 970 mg/L in 8th week, and 1,040 mg/L in 12th week. During the storage of the Joraengyi rice cake which was contaminated with cocktail propionibacterium at $30^{\circ}C$, about 100 mg/L was detected from the rice cake with alcohol in the 1st week, 270 mg/L in 2nd week, about 470 mg/L in 4th week, and 660 mg/L in 8th week. This study demonstratesd the natural production of propionic acid during storage of the Joraengyi rice cake. To prevent the production, it is necessary to thoroughly manage hygiene and store it at refrigerated temperature or below $20^{\circ}C$.

An Experimental Study on Spalling Reduction Methode of Polymer Modified Cement Mortar Using Fiber Cocktail (섬유혼입 공법을 이용한 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르의 폭렬저감방안에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Polymer modified cement mortar (PCM) is commonly used as a repair material. However, in high-temperature environments such as fire, it is more likely to explode than cement mortar. The polymer is thermally decomposed at a high temperature to form a gas, and the gas remaining inside the structure increases the internal pressure to generate a burst. When an spalling occurs, the coating is peeled off and dropped, and high temperature is transmitted to the inside of the structure. In severe cases, even the reinforcing bar is exposed, which can lead to the collapse of the structural member due to severe loss of strength. In this study, in order to reduce spalling of PCM, a fiber mixing method was selected from the refractory method to find an appropriate blending ratio of fibers and polymers.

The effect of international oil price on LNG price in South Korea and Japan

  • In this paper, we investigate the differences between LNG price of South Korea and Japan. Although S. Korean and Japanese LNG markets have similar structures, there are some differences in the price formation. From DCC-MGARCH, we confirm that Japan LNG price have less persistence of disturbance on time than S. Korean LNG price. The conditional correlation also shows linkage effects between LNG prices and impacts of S-curve and DS-curve. Moreover, ARDL estimation result shows that there is co-integration in all models and that impacts of Fukushima accident and LNG volumes are responsible for the increase in Japanese LNG price. Also, adjustment speed of error correction term shows that Japan's deviation from long-run equilibrium disappears faster than S. Korea does, indicating relatively strong Japanese linkage between LNG price and oil price.

  • Hard coating application is effective way of cutting tool for hard-to-machine materials such as Inconel, Ti and composite materials focused on high-tech industries which are widely employed in aerospace, automobile and the medical device industry also Information Technology. In cutting tool for hard-to-machine materials, high hardness is one of necessary condition along with high temperature stability and wear resistance. In recent years, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) which consist of five or more principal elements having an equi-atomic percentage were reported by Yeh. The main features of novel HEAs reveal thermodynamically stable, high strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance by four characteristic features called high entropy, sluggish diffusion, several-lattice distortion and cocktail effect. It can be possible to significantly extend the field of application such as cutting tool for difficult-to-machine materials in extreme conditions. Base on this understanding, surface coatings using HEAs more recently have been developed with considerable interest due to their useful properties such as high hardness and phase transformation stability of high temperature. In present study, the nanocomposite coating layers with high hardness on WC substrate are investigated using high entropy alloy target made a powder metallurgy. Among the many surface coating methods, reactive magnetron sputtering is considered to be a proper process because of homogeneity of microstructure, improvement of productivity and simplicity of independent control for several critical deposition parameters. The N2 is applied to reactive gas to make nitride system with transition metals which is much harder than only alloy systems. The acceleration voltage from 100W to 300W is controlled by direct current power with various deposition times. The coating layers are systemically investigated by structural identification (XRD), evaluation of microstructure (FE-SEM, TEM) and mechanical properties (Nano-indenter).

Acute pyelonephritis and myositis after carboxytherapy : A case report (카르복시테라피 후 발생한 급성 신우신염 및 근육염 : 증례 보고)

  • Carboxytherapy is very similar to mesotherapy in terms of methods, conditions it treats, and outcomes. An important difference consider, however, is that carboxytherapy administers carbon dioxide gas into the subcutaneous layer, just underneath the skin, whereas mesotherapy administers a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, and drugs and into the mesoderm of the skin. There have been many previous case reports of complications of mesotherapy such as hematoma, granulomatous panniculitis, cellulitis, and abscesses. However, complications of carboxytherapy have rarely been reported because the carbon dioxide gas is absorbed within a week and is infused into the subcutaneous and superficial layers. A 27-year-old woman who had twice undergone carboxytherapy to reduce abdominal fat (3 days and 2 weeks ago) at an oriental medical clinic visited the emergency department due to high fever, myalgia, severe back pain, and subcutaneous emphysema from the buttocks to the lower chest wall area. A computed tomography (CT) scan was performed for diagnosis and treatment. We immediately started broad spectrum antibiotics and consulted with the department of radiology, which could not rule out acute peritonitis due to needle injury. A radiologist confirmed abdominal myositis and needle puncture induced acute pyelonephritis. Pyelonephritis can even lead to septicemia, which can have fatal consequences. Therefore, if the patient has costovertebral or back pain after undergoing needle puncture or acupuncture therapy, the emergency physcians need careful initial evaluation for diagnosis and treatment.

Comparison of the Quantulus 1220 and 300SL Liquid Scintillation Counters for the Analysis of 222Rn in Groundwater

  • Background: Liquid scintillation counters (LSCs) are commonly used as an analytical method for detecting $^{222}Rn$ in groundwater because they involve a simple sample pretreatment and allow high throughout with an autosampler. The Quantulus 1220 is the best-selling LSC in Korea, but its production was stopped. Recently, a new type of LSC, the 300SL, was introduced. In this study, the 300SL was compared with the Quantulus 1220 in order to evaluate the ability of each apparatus to detect $^{222}Rn$ in groundwater. Materials and Methods: The Quantulus 1220 and 300SL were used to detect the presence of $^{222}Rn$. Radon gas was extracted from a groundwater sample using a water-immiscible cocktail in a LSC vial. The optimal analytical conditions for each LSC were determined using a $^{222}Rn$ calibration source prepared with a $^{226}Ra$ source. Results and Discussion: The optimal pulse shape analysis level for alpha and beta separation was 80 for the Quantulus 1220, and the corresponding pulse length index was 12 in the 300SL. The counting efficiency of the Quantulus 1220 for alpha emissions was similar to that of the 300SL, but the background count rate of the Quantulus 1220 was 10 times lower than that of the 300SL. The minimum detectable activity of the Quantulus 1220 was $0.08Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$, while that of the 300SL was $0.20Bq{\cdot}L^{-1}$. The analytical results regarding $^{222}Rn$ in groundwater were less than 10% different between these LSCs. Conclusion: The 300SL is an LSC that is comparable to the Quantulus 1220 for detecting $^{222}Rn$ in groundwater. Both LSCs can be applied to determine the levels of $^{222}Rn$ in groundwater under the management of the Ministry of Environment.
