The corrosion effects on thermal contact resistance were experimentally studied for a given contact interface of a couple of metals. 2 cylindrically shaped test pieces, the one was carbon steel whose surface was machined by lathe and the other was stainless steel, ground, were come into contact under pressure, and then submerged to $HNO_3$ gas environment. While the corrosion process was going on, the thermal contact resistance was measured with time. The experiment was performed for 2 cases; 1) Highly compress the test pieces and then bring them to $HNO_3$ gas environment. 2) Anteriorly corrode the interface under low contact pressure and then increase the contact pressure. The results were as follows; In 1st. case of experiment, the thermal contact resistance seemed to be very stable, and showed low values with a tendancy of small decrease with time. But in 2nd. case the resistance was unstable and jumped to a value of 200-250% more then that expected for uncontaminated interface. More over it demonstrated some increase with time.
Co and Ni as catalysts in $SnO_2$ sensors to improve the sensitivity for $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas were coated by a solution reduction method. $SnO_2$ thick films were prepared by a screen-printing method onto $Al_2O_3$ substrates with an electrode. The sensing characteristics were investigated by measuring the electrical resistance of each sensor in a chamber. The structural properties of $SnO_2$ with a rutile structure investigated by XRD showed a (110) dominant $SnO_2$ peak. The particle size of the $SnO_2$:Ni powders with Ni at 6 wt% was about 0.1 ${\mu}m$. The $SnO_2$ particles were found to contain many pores according to a SEM analysis. The sensitivity of $SnO_2$-based sensors was measured for 5 ppm of $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air to that in the target gases. The results showed that the best sensitivity of $SnO_2$:Ni and $SnO_2$:Co sensors for $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature was observed in $SnO_2$:Ni sensors coated with 6 wt% Ni. The $SnO_2$:Ni gas sensors showed good selectivity to $CH_4$ gas. The response time and recovery time of the $SnO_2$:Ni gas sensors for the $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases were 20 seconds and 9 seconds, respectively.
This paper has analyzed the structure, applicable regulations and the resistance characteristics of insulation ring type of CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing for Gas). With the flammability test conducted in accordance with KS C IEC 60811-1-1, the evaluation of insulation resistance, temperature characteristics, and reliability has been conducted. An insulation ring type CSST consists of protective coating, tube, nut, insulation ring, packing, socket, and ball valve. Connecting an insulation ring type CSST to gas tubings for gas appliance is not permitted, moreover, the product shall be installed inside a sleeve pipe in case of buried installation such as the ceiling. Damages on protective coating and tube were detected when fire was applied to the test sample with a portable torch for 60 seconds. The insulation resistance of a normal product was $49.59M{\Omega}$, while that of the product completed the flammability test reduced to $9.21M{\Omega}$. The mean insulation resistance within the confidence Interval of 95% using the mini tap program 17 was $49.59M{\Omega}$ and the mean insulation resistance within the confidence interval reduced to $9.21M{\Omega}$. In the normal distribution analysis of 95% confidence interval, the value-P of the normal product was stable at 0.075 and AD(Anderson-Darling) statistic value was turned out to be 0.063, which is very normal, and the standard deviation was analyzed as 0.2586. The value P of the product completed the flammability test resulted in 0.005, the AD was 1.355 and the standard deviation reduced to 0.07908.
Austenitic stainless steel 316L has been used a lot of applications because of its high corrosion resistance and formability. In addition, copper brazing is employed to create complex shape of 316L stainless steel for various engineering parts. In such system, copper-based filler metals make galvanic cell at metal/filler metal interface, and it accelerates corrosion of stainless steel. Furthermore, Cu-rich region formed by diffused copper in austenitic stainless steel can promote a pitting corrosion. In this study, we used an ammonia (NH3) gas to nitride the 316L stainless steel for improving the corrosion resistance. The thickness of the nitride (nitrogen high) layer increased with the treatment temperature, and the surface hardness also increased. The potentiodynamic polarization test showed the improvement of corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel by enhancing the passivation on nitride layer. However, in case of high temperature nitriding, a chromium nitride was formed and its fraction increased, so that the corrosion resistance was decreased compared to the intact 316L stainless steel.
Because of the continuous growth of energy consumption and also the tendency to site gas pipeline and power line along the same route, the close proximity of power lines and buried metallic pipelines has become more and more frequent. The lightning strokes collected by an electric substation or power line tower might cause arcing through the soil to an adjacent gas pipeline. This paper gives the outline of the resistance coupling and the standards of distance between gas pipeline and tower ground.
Boron carbide thin coatings were deposited on silicon wafers by DC magnetron sputtering using a ${B}_4$C target with Ar as processing gas. Various amounts of methane gas (${CH}_4$) were added in the deposition process to better understand their influence on tribological properties of the coatings. Reciprocating wear tests employing an oscillating friction wear tester were performed to investigate the tribological behaviors of the coatings in ambient environment. The chemical characteristics of the coatings and worn surfaces were studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES). It revealed that ${CH}_4$addition to Ar processing gas strongly affected the tribologcal properties of sputtered boron carbide coating. The coefficient of friction was reduced approximately from 0.4 to 0.1, and wear resistance was improved considerably by increasing the ratio of ${CH}_4$gas component from 0 to 1.2 vol %. By adding a sufficient amount of ${CH}_4$(1.2 %) in the deposition process, the boron carbide coating exhibited lowest friction and highest wear resistance.
This paper was studied on the corrosion behavior of STS 304 for gas boiler in the condensed water, the electrochemical polarization test of STS 304 for gas boiler in the condensed water was carried out. And the corrosion behavior of STS 304 was considered. The main results are as following: 1) As corrosion environment is acidified from neutrality, the polarization resistance of STS 304 decreases and the corrosion potential is less noble. 2) The corrosion reaction mechanism of STS 304 is cathodic control. 3) As corrosion environment is acidified, the passive potential range of STS 304 decreases. Also, the passive current density of STS 304 increases.

Boron carbide thin coatings were deposited on silicon wafers by DC magnetron sputtering using a $B_4C$ target with As as processing gas. Various amounts of methane gas $(CH_4)$ were added in the deposition process to better understand their influence on tribological properties of the coatings. It revealed that $CH_4$ addition to As processing gas strongly affected the tribologcal properties of sputtered boron carbide coating. The coefficient of friction was reduced approximately from 0.4 to 0.1, and wear resistance was improved considerably by increasing the ratio of $CH_4$, gas component from 0 to $1.2\;vol\;\%$. By adding a sufficient amount of $CH_4\;(1.2\%)$ in the deposition process, the boron carbide coating exhibited lowest friction and highest wear resistance.
This work focuses on the behavior of the overpotential increase due to a utilization rise in a molten carbonate fuel cell. The behavior is generally explained by Nernst loss, which is a kind of voltage loss due to the thermodynamic potential gradients in a polarization state due to the concentration distribution of reactant species through the gas flow direction. The evaluation of Nernst loss is carried out with a traditional experimental method of constant gas utilization (CU). On the other hand, overpotential due to the gas-phase mass-transport resistance at the anode and cathode shows dependence on the utilization, which can be measured using the inert gas step addition (ISA) method. Since the Nernst loss is assumed to be due to the thermodynamic reasons, the voltage loss can be calculated by the Nernst equation, referred to as a simple calculation (SC) in this work. The three values of voltage loss due to CU, ISA, and SC are compared, showing that these values rise with increases in the utilization within acceptable deviations. When we consider that the anode and cathode reactions are significantly affected by the gas-phase mass transfer, the behavior strongly implies that the voltage loss is attributable not to thermodynamic reasons, namely Nernst loss, but to the kinetic reason of mass-transfer resistance in the gas phase.

Pure and Mo-doped ZnO hollow nanofibers were prepared by single capillary electrospinning and their gas sensing characteristics toward 5 ppm ethanol, trimethylamine (TMA), CO and $H_2$ were investigated. The gas responses and responding kinetics were dependent upon sensing temperature and Mo doping. Mo-doped ZnO hollow nanofibers showed high response to 5 ppm TMA ($R_a/R_g=111.7$, $R_a$: resistance in air, $R_g$: resistance in gas) at $400^{\circ}C$, while the responses of pure ZnO hollow nanofibers was low ($R_a/R_g=47.1$). In addition, the doping of Mo enhanced selectivity toward TMA. The enhancement of gas response and selectivity to TMA by Mo doping to ZnO nanofibers was discussed in relation to the interaction between basic analyte gas and acidic additive materials.
