  • A Linear Pulse Motor (LPM) is a direct drive motor that has good performance in terms of accuracy, velocity and acceleration compared to the conventional rotating system with toothed belts and ball screws. However, since an LPM needs supporting devices which maintain constant air-gap and has strong nonlinearity caused by leakage magnetic flux, friction and cogging, etc., there are many difficulties in improvement on accuracy with conventional control theory. Moreover, when designing the position controller of LPM, the modeling error and load variations has not been considered. In order to compensate these components, the neural network with conventional feedback controller is introduced. This neural network of feedback error learning type changes the current commands to improve position accuracy. As a result of experiments, we observes that more accurate position control is possible compared to conventional controller.

  • In this paper, the relation between displacement of piezoelectric disk and electric field was proposed. From Navier-Stokes equation and Reynold's equation, the relation between flow and gap of plate was determined. This models were further verified by experiments. Based on theoretical study and experimental verification, the proposed model between flow rate and voltage can be used in the design of mass flow controller in gas supplying system.

  • A disturbance rejection controller using eccentricity filtering and LQ control techniques is proposed to alleviate significantly the effect of roll eccentricity in multivariable cold-rolling processes. Fundamental problems such as process time delay inherent in exit thickness measurement and non-stationary characteristics of roll eccentricity signals can be overcome by the proposed control method. The filtered instantaneous estimate of roll eccentricity may be exploited to improve instantaneous estimate of the exit thickness variation based on roll force and roll gap mearsurements, and a feedforward compensator is augmented as a reference for a gaugemeter thickness estimator. And, LQ feedback controller is combined with eccentricity filter for the attenuation of the exit thickness variation due to the entry thickness variation. The simulation results show that eccentricity components have been significantly eliminated and simultaneously other distrubances also have been attenuated.

  • An off-line Geometric Adaptive Control Scheme is applied to the milling machine to identify its guideway errors. In the milling process, the workpiece fixed on the bed travels along the guideway while the tool and spindle system is fixed onto the machine. The scheme is based on the exponential smoothing of post-process measurements of relative machining errors due to the tool, workpiece and bed deflections. The guideway error identification system consists of a gap sensor, a, not necessarily accurate, straightedge, and the numerical control unit. Without a priori knowledge of the variations of the cutting parameters, the time-varying parameters are also estimated by an exponentially weighted recursive least squares method. Experimental results show that the guideway error is well identified within the range of RMS values of geometric error changes between machining passes disregarding the machining conditions.

  • In this paper actively controlled air bearing is investigated to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and damping coefficients. The actively controlled air beairng is composed of an air bearing, a gap sensor, a controller, and a piezo actuator. By controlling the position of air bearing with piezo actuator, the position of floating object is controlled. In this study the proportional-Integral-Derivative controller is employed. Active air bearing is investigated numerically and experimentally. There is good agreement between the simulation and the experimental results. It is shown that the stiffness and damping characteristics and positioning experimental results. It is shown that the stiffness and damping characteristics and positioning accuracy of air bearing can be improved by means of adopting actively controlled air bearing.

  • In order to optimize the polishing process, Run to Run control scheme has been applied to the micro mold polishing in this study. Also, to fully understand the effect of parameters on the surface roughness a design of experiment is performed. By linear approximation of main factors such as gap and rotational speed of micro quill, EWMA (Exponential Weighted Moving Average) gradual mode controller is adopted as a optimizing tool. Consequently, the process converged quickly at a target value of surface roughness Ra 10nm and Rmax 50nm, and was hardly affected by unwanted process noises like initial surface quality and wear of magnetic abrasives.

  • A predictive pulse control strategy as a means of improving the energy efficiency of radiant floor heating systems is explored. Experiments at the apartment with floor heating system are conducted to assess and compare the energy performance of the predictive pulse control strategy with an existing conventional control strategy. The Results showed that new suggested PPCM( Predictive Pulse Control Method) was available to decrease the gap of $1{\sim}1.5^{\circ}C$ between maximum and minimum indoor temperature of each rooms. Therefore PPCM method was favor to radiant floor heating system which have a delay time of 10-20 minutes for heat transfer by floor layers.

  • This paper proposed a collision avoidance scheme to improve the network performance and priority control scheme to support real-time ATM applications in CIF(Cells in Frames), which carries ATM cells over existing Ethernet interfaces. The proposed scheme has optimized for the two nodes Ethernet, that is a typical CIF network, and doesn't require any hardware modification of existing Ethernet interface card. The collision avoidance scheme gives fair access opprtunities with minimized contention to the nodes by assigning different inter-frame gap to each element of CIF network. The priority control scheme guarantees preemptive transmission of real-time frames to the medium by exchanging queuing status information between two nodes. Therefore in this paper it is shown that CIF network which has both the collision avoidance scheme of MAC layer and the priority control scheme of CIF layer has a improved network performance and supports real-time ATM applications efficiently.

  • This paper suggests a design method of an improved phase control loop for tracking resonant frequency of solid type precision resonant gyroscope. In general, a low cost MEMS gyroscope adapts the automatic gain control loops by taking a velocity feedback configuration. This control technique for controlling the resonance amplitude shows a stable performance. But in terms of resonant frequency tracking, this technique shows an unreliable performance due to phase errors because the AGC method cannot provide an active phase control capability. For the resonance control loop design of a solid type precision resonant gyroscope, this paper presents a phase domain control loop based on linear PLL (Phase Locked Loop). In particular, phase control loop is exploited using a higher order PLL loop filter by extending the first order active PI (Proportion-Integral) filter. For the verification of the proposed loop design, a hemispherical resonant gyroscope is considered. Numerical simulation result demonstrates that the control loop shows a robust performance against initial resonant frequency gap between resonator and voltage control oscillator. Also it is verified that the designed loop achieves a stable oscillation even under the initial frequency gap condition of about 25 Hz, which amounts to about 1% of the natural frequency of a conventional resonant gyroscope.

  • In the paper, we propose a levitation and a propulsion controller for the magnetic levitation logistic transportation system. The levitation controller is designed considering the mutual influence of the electromagnets to minimize roll and pitch movements. In order to solve the structural disadvantages of the magnetic levitation transportation system, we improve the problem of the existing controller by applying the exponential filter to the reference input. DSP-based control hardware is developed and the levitation control method is verified by levitation experiments to the air gap goal. The propulsion controller uses the space vector voltage modulation method. The propulsion controller is designed to follow the position and velocity profile by detecting the absolute position from the bar code information attached to the rail. The position control result shows satisfactory performance through the propulsion control reciprocating motion experiment.
