강릉시 어메니티 지표선정과 활성화 방안 (A Study of Evaluation Indicators for Amenity and the Activation Plan in Gangneung)

  • This research aimed to grasp the recognition of the amenity of the university students residing in Gyo-dong residential area in Gangneung city, the local residents residing in Daehag-ro which is near Jungang-ro in downtown and the public servants related to city development in Gangneung city office and thereby propose a plan to improve the amenity of Gangneung city. Based on the result of the research, the university student group around Gyo-dong residential area mostly recognized the amenity and the local residents around Daehag-ro showed insufficient recognition of the amenity and some of related public servants were found to be ignorant of the term amenity. Also, the priorities of amenity indexes identified from these 3 groups commonly showed aliveness requiring green lands and watercourses on top but 2nd priority of each group tended to be different from each other. Through the research result as above, we would like to propose the plan to improve as follows. First, the recognition of the concept of amenity is necessary. Second, green lands and watercourses that were selected by all of the 3 groups as ranking no. 1 should be secured. Third, the value of amenity resources should be evaluated. Gangneung city is a city where mountains and the sea are harmonized together granting abundant god blessed natural resources. But if Gangneung city would imprudently reclaims the excellent god blessed natural environment under the good title of city and housing lands development, its ranking in city competitiveness evaluations will be expected to continue descending. Therefore, as proposed in this research, the thing that has to be implemented with first priority for amenity Gangneung city is the execution of amenity policy to secure the identity of Gangneung city and the aspect of regulations or systems should also be pursued together with the policy.

Optimal UAM Route Planning with Digital Twin : Casestudy of Gangneung City

  • Urban Air Mobility is gaining attention as a solution to traffic congestion and air pollution in large cities, but Gangneung, the case area of this study, is a medium-sized city focusing on tourism and connectivity with other public transport rather than congested traffic. Introducing UAM here focuses on integrating aircraft that carry people, vertiports for vertical take-off and landing, and corridors through which UAM can fly. While research on aircraft and vertiports is actively conducted, studies on corridors are still lacking. Thus, this study selected a route in Gangneung, a medium-sized city in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, that allows UAM flights with minimal risk. For this, a safety distance specific to building heights was determined, and the damage radius in case of aircraft crashes was calculated to select the route with the least possible damage during crash or collision incidents. For analysis, aerial photos and digital maps of Gangneung City, along with building information data, were used to create high-resolution orthophotos and digital elevation models. Based on the created data, GIS-based spatial analysis and three-dimensional visualization were conducted, and a suitable UAM route for Gangneung City was determined.

강원 지역 산지 태양광 발전시설이 설치된 지역의 사면특성 분석 (Analysis of Slope Characteristics Around the Location of Solar Power Plants in Gangwon Province, South Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 강원 지역의 산지 태양광 발전시설이 설치된 지역의 사면 특성을 분석하기 위해, GIS 기법과 위성지도를 활용하여 강릉과 원주 지역의 태양광 발전시설 설치현황을 조사하였다. 강릉과 원주 지역의 태양광 발전시설은 각각 36, 48개소의 발전시설이 설치되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 강릉과 원주 지역의 태양광 발전시설 설치지역에 대한 지형자료를 수집하여 면적, 사면경사, 해발고도 등의 데이터베이스를 구축하였다. 이후 구축된 데이터베이스를 활용하여 강릉과 원주 지역의 산지 태양광 발전 시설이 설치된 지역의 사면 특성을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 원주 지역의 사면은 강릉 지역 보다 더 높은 사면경사를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 강릉과 원주 지역의 태양광 시설 내에서 15°와 34° 이상의 최대경사를 갖는 지역이 상당수 존재하는 것으로 나타났다.

광역 대중교통 접근성 향상이 관광 및 지역경제 활성화에 미치는 효과 분석 (Analysis of the effect of improving access to wide-area public transportation on the Regional Economic Revitalization)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 인구감소가 계속되고 있는 강릉시의 강릉선 KTX 개통 전후의 지료 변화와 관광 빅데이터를 분석하여 지역경제 활성화 방안을 제안하는 것에 있다. 이를 위해 강릉시의 주요 현황과 강릉시 내부 운행기록 데이터(DTG)를 분석하였다. 이후, KTX 강릉선 개통 전후 대중교통 이용객의 이동행태 변화를 비교하였다. 그 결과, 관광객 이용 교통수단 변화, 인구 변화, 자영업종 변화, 강릉시 내 관광객 통행 행태의 변화를 파악할 수 있었다. 특히, 자영업종 변화에서는 KTX 강릉선 개통 이후 일반음식점, 휴게음식점(카페 등), 숙박업소가 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 세 업종 모두 강릉역 인근에 집중하여 증가하고 있으며, 이는 KTX 강릉선 개통 이후 강릉시 중심부에 개통한 강릉역의 영향이라 판단할 수 있다.

Appilication of a Green City Index as a Green Space Planning Index for the Low-Carbon Green City of Gangneung-si

  • This study aims to establish baseline data for sustainable monitoring by applying the green city index (GCI), which is set up to evaluate the city level, to the city of Gangneung-si, which was designated as a pilot city for the Low-carbon Green Growth City project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation. The GCI was applied in the framework of European systems, while considering the social and economic status of Korea. Indicators from 7 areas-$CO_2$, energy, building, transportation, water, waste, and quality of atmosphere were analyzed, except for qualitative indicators. Results indicate that total $CO_2$ emissions were 30.8 tons per capita, or 2.2 tons per one million units of real GDP. The total final energy consumption was 0.231 TOE/capita, or 0.317 TOE per one million units of real GDP. The percentage of total energy derived from renewable resources was 0.41% and energy consumption by the building was $433.5Mwh/1,000m^2$. The total percentage of the working population travelling to work daily by public transportation (limited to bus) was 19%. Further, the total annual water consumption was $99m^3/capita$, and the water lost in the water distribution system was $0.057m^3/capita/day$. The total annual waste collected was 0.0077 ton per capita, The annual mean emission were 0.014 ppm/day for $NO_2$, 0.005 ppm/day for $SO_2$, and 0.019 ppm/day for $O_3$. The annual mean for PM10 emissions was $39{\mu}g/m^3/day$.

도심광장의 생태적건전성 활성화방안 - 강릉시 교동 광장을 사례로 - (A Study of Activating Urban Square's Ecological Soundness - Focusing on Gyodong Square in the City of Gangneung -)

  • This study aimed to investigate the dilapidated Fine View Square located in the city of Gangneung and analyze problems for building it into a sustainable space under an effective management plan. Further to creating an ecological base for restoring the natural circulation, a restorative method for the damaged area, a spatial assignment by the UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB), and an urban ecological park, we not only wanted to provide an environment that is citizen friendly, but also a practical and realizable project to connect with the various methods and programs mentioned above, while utilizing the Ministry of the Environment 's ecosystem conservation fund. In conclusion, we found that it would be possible to contribute to building an urban ecological park the Ministry of Environment proposed while restoring the lost natural circulation in Gyodong Square in the city of Gangneung and ecological soundness of the city along with the reduced heat island effect and the increased biological diversity and Ecological Soundness.

Case Study on an Oral Health Care Program for Older Adults Based on a Public-Private-Academic Partnership

  • Background: The population of Gangneung City in South Korea has shown a gradual increase in the proportion of individuals aged 65 years and older, and the most frequently reported diseases for several years have consistently been periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis. The regional imbalance in the distribution of dental personnel and resources has emerged as a problem of inequality in the use of dental care. It has been advocated to identify areas with disadvantages in dental care and develop public dental policies based on that. This study aimed to develop a customized oral healthcare program for local seniors based on a Public-Private-Academic Partnership, and to evaluate the oral health status of older adults in Gangneung City. Methods: The participants were residents aged 60 years and above in Gangneung City. A questionnaire including general information, systemic health status, and oral health status was administered to the participants. In addition, oral healthcare and education tailored to each individual's health status were provided once or twice based on their oral health status. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 for descriptive statistical analysis. Results: Among the older adults in Gangneung City, 75% had at least one prosthesis and exhibited symptoms of gingivitis or periodontitis. Additionally, the modified sulcus bleeding index decreased among participants who underwent the program twice. Over 90% of the participants expressed satisfaction with the program. Conclusion: The program appeared to contribute positively to the oral health promotion among local seniors. Further oral healthcare programs should focus on seniors in rural and old urban areas to reduce disparities in oral health across regions.

Monitoring Roadbed Stability to Prevent Cascading Hazards in Daejeon City, South Korea, Using Sentinel-1 SAR Data

  • Roadbed stability is paramount in urban areas as it directly affects public safety and city operations. South Korea's major metropolis has experienced 1127 cases of ground subsidence since 2014, affecting subways, roads, railways, and construction sites. Notably, about 40% of these incidents coincide with heavy summer rainfall, while 60% resulted from utility damage, improper backfill, and groundwater fluctuations. Subsequently, roadbed instability leads to a range of cascading hazards, including sinkholes and road failures, endangering public safety and the economy. Therefore, continuous monitoring of roadbed stability and implementing proactive measures are essential for a resilient transportation infrastructure. However, terrestrial in-situ observations like GPS provide accurate surface's displacement with high temporal accuracy but limited spatial resolution. To address this issue, we used the InSAR permanent scatterer (PSInSAR) technique to process 35 Sentinel-1 SLC datasets acquired between 2017 and 2022 to monitor and prevent cascading hazards in Daejeon City, South Korea. The results revealed an average subsidence rate of -0.88mm/year with a maximum of -7.73 mm/year. Notably, the southern part of the city exhibited significant roadbed instability, with an average and maximum cumulative subsidence of -5.13 mm and -44.95 mm, respectively. The deformation data was then integrated with road geometry to develop a vulnerability map of the city, highlighting the pronounced roadbed deformation in the southern region. Time-series subsidence variations correlated with groundwater fluctuations data from 2017 to 2022, showing a decline in groundwater levels from 4.63m to 9.9m in the southern region. Furthermore, a comparison between subsidence rates and effective shear wave velocity (Vs30) revealed that most subsidence events were associated with Vs30 values below 420 m/sec, indicating a clear lithological influence on the spatial distribution of roadbed instability. Thus, the integrated geotechnical and hydrogeological data with PSInSAR monitoring can better understand the processes responsible for roadbed instability in areas with small-scale variations.

동해 강릉지역의 가구산업 조성을 위한 조사연구 - 일본 사례조사 및 지역 업체의 설문조사를 중심으로 - (Research for Development of Furniture Industry in a city of Gangneung and Donghae - Focused on Japanese Case Study and Survey of Local Businesses -)

  • This study aims to develop furniture industry in eastern district of Gangwondo and a city of Gangneung and Donghae. Case study on furniture complex in Asahikawa, Japan and survey of furniture companies in Gangneung and Donghae city were implemented for understanding of present state, followed by analysis of problems. It can be summarized as follows. First, the basic operation method of Japanese furniture industry is to keep a balance between industry and academy. Universities or centers are in charge of education and fostering talents, such as allowing to promote and to sell products in design center gallery while corporations support it by lending expensive devices and conducting strength test analysis. Second, according to the survey of furniture companies in Gangneung, many difficulties in products development such as a shortage of designer, method, creative design were discovered. With respect to education and human force fostering, education for design and e-commerce were not sufficient, also marketing section has a problem with limited space for display and selling. Corporate support section is facing problems in receiving raw materials, aging of facilities, manufacturing and management methods. Consequently, it is considered that academic and industrial sections should implement their own roles by forming a bilateral network which connects local universities, high schools, relevant organization in the city and providence and furniture manufacturing companies to companies' product development, human force fostering and marketing in an attempt to activate the furniture industry in this area.

담수어류의 종생물지수를 이용한 강릉 남대천의 수환경 평가 (Water Environmental Assessment by the Species Biotic Index of Freshwater Fish in the Namdaecheon, Gangneung City)

  • We investigated the water environmental assessment by the species biotic index (SBI) of freshwater fish at the Namdaecheon in Gangneung city, Gangweon-do during June and July in 2004 and June in 2005. In fish fauna, 29 species and 10 families were collected. Dominant species was Zacco platypus (relative abundance 15.33%) and subdominant species was Rhynchocypris steindachneri (13.13%). Species biotic index (SBI) in station 1, 2, 3, 4 was 1.70, 2.85, 1.00 and 3.39 respectively and water environmental grade by SBI was all very good. Station 5 was 4.13 in SBI and good grade. Station 6 was 4.47 and fairly good. Station 7 was 7.25 and poor. And station 8 was 8.10 and very poor grade. Results of water environmental grade by SBI and water quality grade were very similar in this stream.
