  • Previous studies show that driver mental workload plays a significant role in the occurrence of traffic accidents. This study also analyzes driving workload under different road conditions especially with the brain wave data collected by a driving simulator. We use a logistic regression model to explain the relationship between driving workload and gamma brain waves. The results show that beta band of brain waves becomes broader with more curved sections while alpha band and gamma band become narrower. Since driving workload is negatively correlated with gamma band, it can be concluded that driving condition with less curved section is beneficial for reducing driving stress and increasing driving comfort.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of applying oriental music therapy and reliability of electroencephalogram(EEG) equipment. The study was approved by the critical trial judge committee from ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$(IRB No. 2013-07) university. In order to measure test-retest reliability for 15 subjects, EEG for same participants were measured using same method mentioned above after 2 hours from the first measurement. Same provider implemented to each person at same time. Firstly, EEG was measured for 5 minutes after the subject with attached electrodes sat on chair comfortably for 10 minutes. Then, the subject was given mental stress using the four fundamental arithmetic operations for 5 minutes, and measured EEG for another 5 minutes. After that the subject sat on the chair comfortably listening oriental medicine music therapy for 5 minutes, and EEG was measured for 5 minutes again. There was no side effect regarding music therapy reported. Raw data, which was measured in each step, were converted through FFT(fast fourier transform) and analyzed after divided into certain frequency including ${\alpha}$ wave, ${\beta}$ wave, ${\theta}$ wave, immersion wave, stabilization wave, sef100 wave, and sef95 wave. Data were analyzed using wilcoxon signed rank test, Intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC), repeated measures ANOVA with the SPSS program. In test-retes method, there were significantly differences in ${\alpha}$ wave, ${\beta}$ wave, immersion wave, stability wave, ${\theta}$ wave, sef100 wave, sef95 wave. ICC has shown a high degree of reliability that it was ${\alpha}$ wave .877, ${\beta}$ wave .855, ${\gamma}$ wave .895, immersion wave .897, stability wave .816, ${\theta}$ wave .904, sef100 wave .910, sef95 wave .776. Also, there was a statistically significant difference in ${\alpha}$ wave after applying oriental music therapy. Based on these results, it is considered that average of the channel EEG and application of oriental music therapy would be practiced by increase of sample size using this machine.

  • An attempt was made to evaluate creep reliability of two commercial Ni-based superalloys by using ultrasonic wave. The materials include fine-grained PM alloy fabricated by mechanical alloying and subsequent hot isostatic pressing, and IN738LC cast alloy with a grain size of a few cm. Microstructural parameters (fraction of creep cavity and size of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ precipitates) and ultrasonic parameters (velocity, attenuation) were measured to try to find relationships between them. Ultrasonic velocity decreased with creep cavity formation in PM alloy. On the other hand, no distinct changing trend of ultrasonic velocity was observed for IN738LC alloy. Ultrasonic attenuation was found to have a linear correlation with the size of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ precipitates and was suggested as a potential parameter for monitoring creep reliability of IN738LC alloy.

  • When we design coastal and harbol facilities deepwater design wave and wind speed are the important design parameters. Especially, the analysis of these informations is a vital step for the point of disaster prevention. In this study, we made and an extreme value analysis using a series of deep water significant wave data arranged in the 16 direction and supplied by KORDI real-time wave information system ,and the wind data gained from Wan-Do whether Station 1978-2003. The probability distributions considered in this characteristic analysis were the Weibull, the Gumbel, the Log-Pearson Type III, the Normal, the Lognormal, and the Gamma distribution. The parameter for each distribution was estimated by three methods, i.e. the method of moments, the maximum likelihood, and the method of probability weight moments. Furthermore, probability distributions for the extreme data had been selected by using Chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test within significant level of 5%, i,e. 95% reliance level. From this study we found that Gumbel distribution is the most proper model for the deep water design wave height off the southwest coast of Korea. However the result shows that the proper distribution made for the selected site is varied in each extreme data set.

  • The underlying goal of the present paper is to investigate soil and structural uncertainties on impedance functions and structural response of soil-shallow foundation-structure (SSFS) system using Monte Carlo simulations. The impedance functions of a rigid massless circular foundation resting on the surface of a random soil layer underlain by a homogeneous half-space are obtained using 1-D wave propagation in cones with reflection and refraction occurring at the layer-basement interface and free surface. Firstly, two distribution functions (lognormal and gamma) were used to generate random numbers of soil parameters (layer's thickness and shear wave velocity) for both horizontal and rocking modes of vibration with coefficients of variation ranging between 5 and 20%, for each distribution and each parameter. Secondly, the influence of uncertainties of soil parameters (layer's thickness, and shear wave velocity), as well as structural parameters (height of the superstructure, and radius of the foundation) on the response of the coupled system using lognormal distribution was investigated. This study illustrated that uncertainties on soil and structure properties, especially shear wave velocity and thickness of the layer, height of the structure and the foundation radius significantly affect the impedance functions, and in same time the response of the coupled system.

  • Synthesis of Iron oxides by air oxidation of $FeSO_4$ solutions in the presence of NaOH, Diethylenetriamine (DETA), Butylamine (BA) and influence of ultrasonic wave were investigated by XRD, SEM and particle size analyzer. As the DETA addition increased to 0.05 mol, $Fe_3O_4$ was formed with goethite($\alpha$- FeOOH) and $Fe_3O_4$ single phase was formed above 0.18mol of DETA. As the BA addition increased, the XRD peak intensity of (020) face of lepidocrocite($\gamma$-FeOOH) was developed until the formation of $Fe_3O_4$ and reduced the size of the iron oxide particles formed. Ultrasonic wave reduced the size of the iron oxide particles but gave little effects on the iron oxide particles synthesized by amine.

  • High-frequency bistatic scattering measurements from a corrugated surface were made in an acoustic water tank. First the azimuthal scattering pattern was measured from an artificially corrugated surface which has varying impedance. The corrugated surface was installed both transverse to the direction of incident wave and longitudinal to the direction of incident wave. The angle between the corrugated surface and the direction of the incident wave was about $45^{\circ}$. Second, the scattering strengths were measured from the flat sediment and the corrugated sediment. A critical angle of about $37^{\circ}$ was calculated in the acoustic water tank. The measurements were made at three fixed grazing angles: $33^{\circ}$ (lower than critical angle), $37^{\circ}$ (critical angle), and $41^{\circ}$ (higher than critical angle). The scattering angle and the grazing angle are equal in each measurement. Frequencies were from 50 kHz to 100 kHz with an increment of 1 kHz. The corrugated sediment was made transverse to the direction of the incident wave. The first measurement indicates that the scattering patterns depend on the relations between the corrugated surface and the direction of the incident wave. In the second measurement, the data measured from the flat sediment were compared to the APL-UW model and to the NRL model. The NRL model's output shows more favorable comparisons than the APL-UW model. In case of the corrugated sediment, the model and the measured data are different because the models used an isotropic wave spectrum of sediment roughness in the scattering calculations. The isotropic wave spectrum consists of $w_2$ and ${\gamma}_2$. These constants derived from sediment names or bulk size. The model which used the constants didn't consider the effect of a corrugated surface. In order to consider a corrugated surface, the constants were varied in the APL-UW model.

  • The fatigue strength of a nickel-base superalloy was studied. Stress-controlled fatigue tests were carried out at $700^{\circ}C$ and 5 Hz using triangular wave forms. In this study, two kinds of testing procedures were adopted. One is the conventional tension-zero fatigue test(R = 0). The other was a procedure in which the maximum stress was held at 1000 MPa and the minimum stress was diverse from zero to 1000 MPa at 24 and $700^{\circ}C$. The results of the fatigue tests at $700^{\circ}C$ indicate that the fracture mechanism changed according to both the mean stress and the stress range. At a higher stress range, ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ precipitates are sheared by a/2<110> dislocation pairs coupled by APB. Therefore, in a large stress range, the deformation occurred by shearing of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ by a/2<110> dislocations, which brought about crystallographic shear fracture. As the stress range was decreased, the fracture mode gradually changed from crystallographic shear fracture to gradual growth of fatigue cracks. At an intermediate stress range, as it became more difficult for a/2<110> dislocation pairs to shear ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles, cracks started to propagate in the matrix, avoiding the harder ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles. High mean stress induced creep deformation, that is, ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles were sheared by {111}<112> slip systems, which led to the formation of stacking faults in the precipitates. Thus, the change in fracture mechanism brought about the inversion of the S-N curves.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of belly button healing by measuring the EEG activity after developing and applying belly button healing to high school students. This study was conducted on 19 high school students (8 boys and 11 girls). The students who participated in this study underwent belly button healing for about 5 minutes twice per daily (morning and evening) for 2 weeks. In this experiment, an electroencephalogram (EEG) of the subject was measured in a state of arousal and steady state and the change in EEG was observed during the stroop task. Subsequently, belly button healing was performed for about 5 minutes with a one minute break and the same procedure was then repeated. As a result of the study, the reduction of the M-Beta wave, H-Beta wave and Gamma wave was lower compared to the arousal state due to the navel healing program. The reduction of the Alpha wave and SMR wave also was decreased compared to the steady state by the navel healing program. This suggests that belly button healing has improved the concentration, immersion, and psychological stability of the subjects in stress situations. This is consistent with the participants' interviews after the research. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, because belly button healing is effective in relieving stress in high school students, such a program will be needed for students who are experiencing academic stress. Second, because belly button healing can help increase high school students' concentration, it is recommended to implement belly button healing before addressing certain complex or difficult tasks.
