  • Looking back at the last 10 years of the enactment of the Game Industry Act, the law was revised as a regulation rather than a promotion of the game. The objective of this study is to investigate where game regulation originated and derived through the history of those, and to find out what areas were missed, and to solve the tangled threads by regulation. For this purpose, we reviewed the implications of 10,000 won per hour, and discussed alternatives. Data were collected and analyzed on the basis of a review of regulatory literature and in - depth interviews with experts. When regulating games, we found that the side effects were further amplified by simply regulating the amount. Especially, we found that the vicious cycle in which functions such as indication, hit repeatedly, and automatic progress are made and immediately following prohibited is repeated. The point at which there is a sharp interest between the game user and the game operator in the game progression is the 'reward ratio for betting'. This is the key to protecting users. This could be a regulation considering the mechanism of the game. If the regulatory paradigm shifts in the future due to game regulations that take into account the 'reward ratio for betting' in the future, it is expected to minimize the side effects of price regulation and create a sound game ecosystem.

  • As the market sheare of the Chinese game market across the world has been largely expanded over a decade, big game exporters of USA, Japan, Korea have developed Chinese factors and promoted export strategies, that target China. The Purpose of this study is to analyze the popular game characters of USA, Japan and Korea in order to provide empirical analysis of traditional Chinese elements applied in existing games. The RPG games in USA, Japan and Korea were selected for the contents analysis of the Chinese elements to show how the existing game companies used Chinese elements. The main findings of the research from survey data are rather inconsistent with the content analysis. In particular, all the RPG game companies of USA, Japan and Korea showed a remarkable ratio of using Manzu clothes more than Hanzu clothes. But, the preference of real game users on the Manzu style were lower than Hanzu style. Moreover, Chinese users showed more preference of the game character background that users more deepen Chinese culture. We suggest that applying Chinese elements need to be more selective based on real user's demand.

  • The interaction property of digital media have changed traditional storytelling into a new concept, digital-storytelling, which has been widely accepted. Nowadays open-ended game storytelling, which different from story design of movie or animation, is chosen for the development of RPG. It can make infinite stories according to player character's decision. In this paper, we propose a game storytelling structure focused on the characters for RPG, and analyze how characters designed with various story-values interact with background stories and events in the cyber game world through case studies. This research is necessary to design predictable game mechanics and provide methods to control game play in case of special-purpose game.

  • The theme is the core of the work in all media including the games. In order to develop successful games, it must effectively express the game theme. In order to express the game theme, it must be able to understand and to utilize the characteristics of the game theme. This Study extracted 11 characteristics of the game theme through the precedent literature research and found 4 core characteristics of the game theme through interviews with 11 experts. This Study conducted a survey about 4 core characteristics of the game theme in Final Fantasy X of Japan and Skyrim of USA. As a result, degree of an expression about 4 core characteristics of the game theme received high-rated in common(3.45~4.59 / 5). It may become guidelines for the theme studies in the other games. I will contribute to develop successful games through understanding and utilizing the 4 core characteristics of the game theme.

  • Since the advent of digital games with hardware development a key component of the game characters are changed to retard the rate at which types of users based on their favorite theory of human proportion. Many popular to gamers in the game according to the change in the retard rate in a unique image of the character. Studies on the head and body proportion are thought that up to now been insufficient. The purpose of this study is to examine a fundamental human proportion that has importance as a molding factor in the game character development, it investigated the characteristics of the game character, and classifying the retard rate of the game character, through the research method of analyzing the results, into the retard rate look for and investigate studying the effect on future game images. Five types of game characters that make up the analysis were analyzed with a unique image, and the more specialized users prefer retard rate, the figurative exaggeration to retard rate than the actual main body. Utilizing a bit exaggerated the difficulties of the character looks relatively small proportion character in the graphic wallpaper increased visibility. The proportion of a game character through the study is considered as a very important factor as the game image in the game development.

  • As game players have been more diverse and new features of digital games have been emerged in recent days, it is important to find out and understand how recent game players recognize and classify digital games. Thirty game players conducted Q-analysis of twenty-nine Q-statements extracted from previous studies on game typology. By using a QUANL program, three different types were revealed. For game classification, 'Physical Environment Centric Players' type highly values external game elements from the outside perspectives. 'Contents Centric Players' type considers internal game elements as the most important criterion. 'Emotional Experience Centric Players' type values his/her subjective feeling and thoughts. Based on this study, it is expected to make a contribution in developing a framework of game players with their perspectives on game classification.

  • Game Industry sustained growth for some time, but the lifespan of a game is shortening. Various efforts to improve the quality of services for the game players which play a role in extending the lifespan of games. When a game is serviced, the server of the game starts to store log informations, and the stored data became important measures to predict game user's activities. As the game's data gathers, it becomes highly useful big data. By analyzing the data of the game stored in this way, a game service issue analysis procedure is proposed to improve the quality of the game service and to proceed with a better service, and based on the analysis in this way, it was applied to the balance test process and verified through expert to the balance test process. If the log analysis process is applied through this paper, it will be a basic data that can improve the quality of game services.

  • The purpose of this research is to study a case of the minimalism on Game Graphic User Interface design in Computer game. It is to analyse the minimal tendency on Game Graphic User Interface design in several Computer games such as Prince of Persia, Mirror's Edge, Splinter Cell, Gears of War, Call of Duty4, Metro 2033, Crysis2. These games expanded the field of Game Graphic User Interface design with the unique form of minimalism. Minimalism came from the formative arts in the 1960s and influenced to other fields of art. It seems to be an expression of various styles that promptly meet the needs of the times. Therefore, in this research, I would highlight the phenomenon of minimalisation in Game Graphic User Interface design and research the influence of Minimalism that appears in modern design focused on "simplicity" and "minimum" which are representative trend of Minimalism.

  • This research will apply the environmental characteristics of physical computing to game development, which has the concept of giving substantial materiality to digital media that do not exist in reality. The processing process of physical computing is digital input and digital output, and analog input and analog output, which mainly uses Malik controllers. Therefore, we select development elements by analyzing research cases in the field of digital art and information education where physical computing is studied a lot, and by analyzing games that borrowed some physical computing elements. The derived elements are verified by the Delphi's research methodology through agreement with experts. 12 elements are selected in this study, and the importance is shown in order of the physical properties in the virtual world, the suitability of the implementation technology, and the conformity between real and virtual players.

  • One of the most important reasons for using online game is intrinsic motivation which relates the drive to perform a behavior for perceptions of pleasure and satisfaction from the behavior itself. Therefore, most studies for using online game have been based on theories for intrinsic motivation such as flow. However, such theories have some limitations for explaining social aspects of online games such as Massively Multiplayer Online Role Game (MMORPG), which provides a society for game players by using a virtual space for playing games so called 'persistent world'. Adaptive structuration theory (AST) is one of trying to capture the change of using IT due to social interactions between users and system. In order to explain online game players' behavior considering social interaction, we suggest a research model based on AST. Our model aims to investigate the relationship between appropriation which is determined by faithfulness of appropriation (FOA) and consensus on appropriation (COA) and performance which is represented by the relationship among perceived winning, flow, and intention of reuse. An empirical test of our model for 125 MMORPG users which is analyzed by Partial Least Square method shows very satisfactory and interesting results. While hypotheses suggested in our model are supported, the influence of COA on game performance is shown to be stronger than that of FOA.
