  • Key areas of digital contents, the games and animation industries are increasingly expanding. Therefore, training of a specialized workforce is required in accordance with these enterprises' growing demand. Education in the field of games and animation lies in cultivating talents with creative thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Thus, this paper aims to propose a PBSL teaching model for creative convergent talent through game and animation projects. The study will focus on the characteristics of creative convergence talents, project teaching, and related job competencies for game and animation education. Based on literature research, a 'Project Based Self Learning' instructional model is presented, in which creative thinking and collaboration competencies are explained in a way they can be performed by the learner. As a case study, D University's class was applied with PBSL. A survey showed that the autonomy aspects were higher than the creativity and convergence attitudes, indicating that the students improved their autonomy and motivation. However, the team composition needs further supplementation.

  • As the part of a research project, we examined the causes of game addiction. Traumatized infants may project into virtual space a variety of mental symptoms such as aggression and delusion, division and depression, lack of integrated ego, low emotional awareness, compulsive obsession with objects, rebellion against social norms, and low reality awareness. Game space plays various roles in exhibiting presence of self, omnipotence and hopelessness, division of the self-image, emotional duality, immersion, and motility. This roles have both functional and dysfunctional effects.

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate the usability test of 'Paldokangsan3' which has been developed as a serious game for the elderly to improve their physical and mental health. This game machine has been installed in a silver house for one month that the elderly could play the game as they like in their convenient times. To promote their participations to practice the game, we set 3 contests with gifts for the high scores and collect their data through inspection, questionnaire and interviews by the researchers as well as in-game measurement for the play. Eight people volunteered to join the project. While the result analysis for the usability area of easiness of control, learnability of the game play, memorability and challenge didn't show the statistical confident t-value, most elderly players participated 2~3 times a day for a month even though most of them are suffering mild cognition impairment. They showed good subjective satisfactions in their interviews that we could go on the project further to expand its applications.

  • This article presents a six sigma project for improving purchase conversion rate in mobile game site. The project was carried out based on DMAIC process. First, a defect rate is defined as low purchase conversion rate. In addition, 60-days purchase data was analyzed and it is shown that the defects level was 2.48 sigma level. In this study, in order to raise the sigma level, six personalization services were used in the mobile game site. Six factors were determined based on FDPM(Functional Deployment Process Map), fishbone chart, linear regression analysis, effort-performance matrix, and so on. The sigma level of defects has improved from 2.48 to 2.93.

  • This article aims to present an effective and systematic learning methodology of game curriculum which is oriented convergence education. In particular, I will present the 4PBL model reflecting the trend of the changing times from teacher-centered learning to learner-centered learning environment. The 4PBL model consists of Personal based Learning, Problem based Learning, Project based learning and Performance based Learning. In this article, I will explain the concepts and characteristics of PBLs at each stage by providing concrete examples of game education courses. Such an attempt may have a meaningful value in that it can suggest a learning environment in which knowledge can be structured subjectively in a changing educational paradigm.

  • Building a game has been used as effective and attractive way of teaching computer science. Building a usable Multi-player Game is requires important aspects of technology, teamwork and software engineering principles. The whole class was structured in to several teams and students needed to join one or two teams. Each team presented their progress, discussed future milestones and troubleshoots, updated documents for clearer communication and utilized SVN(Subversion) throughout the semester. Unlike usual class setting, all students worked collaboratively together like one company to achieve the goal. In one semester, students started from concept design and completed a working Multiplayer Online Game called "deBugger" (Fall 2009), and "World of Balance" (Fall 2011), while learning game design, 3D graphics, Game Engine, Server-client architecture, Game Protocol, network programming, database, Software Engineering principles, and large application development as a team project.
