  • The process of game development is contained of many steps that is hard to forecast success or failure. In order to develop successful game, the development period should be shorter, which could reduce development cost. In order to reduce development period and cost, it is needed to make a communication among planners, programmers, graphic designers and investors lively with a prototype as a communication tool. In this study, the concrete examples are demonstrated how to use prototypes as a tool for communication and feedback of team members, in the process of game development. This paper explains the characteristics of various types of prototypes according to types of game contents. This paper demonstrated two types of prototype according to development stage, one type is a prototype to gather feedback in the planning stage, the other is a prototype to make team members cooperate and communicate in the stage of production stage.

The flow experience and the influencing factors are divided into the relationship between first, second-leading factors, and lagged factors. Results - The user's sense of challenge, skillfulness, concentration, and reality influenced the flow experience as a leading factor influencing the performance of MMORPG games. On the other hand, fun and preference were found to be the outcomes of the flow experience. This is because the game content is experienced not through passive enjoyment but by intentionally enjoying the game content. The flow experience has a positive effect on the intention of continuous use as in the previous study. Conclusions - This study found that the flow experience of game users is necessary for continuous use by organizing relationships of flow experience in mobile MMORPG users' gaming behavior.

  • In this study of effective game localization, we attempt to gauge the influence of characteristics on the translation of the texts in games. In general, the characters in the games that feature interactive story-telling structure have a huge impact on events that occur in the games. Additionally, in case the origin of the characters are closely connected with either cultural factors or symbolisms, the relation between characters and stories tends to be stronger. In this research, the characteristics of the characters in the game 'Lobotomy Corporation' - featuring characteristics based on 'The Tree of Sepiroth' of Kabbalah - will be analyzed in depth; then, the result will lead us to suggest the method of proper translation in order to show how to localize the games effectively in future.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop and test a model for predicting problem gambling in speculative game users based on Blaszczynski and Nower's pathways model of problem and pathological gambling. Methods: The participants were 262 speculative game users recruited from seven speculative gambling places located in Seoul, Gangwon, and Gyeonggi, Korea. They completed a structured self-report questionnaire comprising measures of problem gambling, negative emotions, attentional impulsivity, motor impulsivity, non-planning impulsivity, gambler's fallacy, and gambling self-efficacy. Structural Equation Modeling was used to test the hypothesized model and to examine the direct and indirect effects on problem gambling in speculative game users using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs. Results: The hypothetical research model provided a reasonable fit to the data. Negative emotions, motor impulsivity, gambler's fallacy, and gambling self-efficacy had direct effects on problem gambling in speculative game users, while indirect effects were reported for negative emotions, motor impulsivity, and gambler's fallacy. These predictors explained 75.2% problem gambling in speculative game users. Conclusion: The findings suggest that developing intervention programs to reduce negative emotions, motor impulsivity, and gambler's fallacy, and to increase gambling self-efficacy in speculative game users are needed to prevent their problem gambling.
