ENIG(Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold)is a surface treatment method that is used most widely at fine pitch's SMT and BGA packaging process. ENIG has good diffusion barrier of Ni against solder and good wettability due to Au finish. But when the discoloration occurred on the Au finish of ENIG, some key characteristics related to the quality and reliability of PCB such as bondability, solderability and electrical flowing of packaging process could be deteriorated. In this paper, we have performed the water dip test ($88^{\circ}C$ purified water) which accelerates the galvanic corrosion of Ni diffused from the Ni-P layer. That is, the excessive oxidation of the Ni layer could result in non-wetting of the solder because the flux may not be able to remove excessive oxides. Though Au discoloration have been reported to be caused by Ni oxides in many literature, it is still open to verify and discuss The microstructures and chemical compositions have been investigated using FE-SEM, TEM, FIB, EDS and XPS. As a result, authors have found that the Au discoloration in ENIG type is severely caused by the oxidation of the Ni and the mechanism of Au discoloration can be confirmed through the experiment result of water dip test.
The effects of Sn addition and solution treatment on corrosion behavior were studied in AZ91 magnesium casting alloy. The addition of 5%Sn contributed to the introduction of $Mg_2Sn$ phase, to the reduction in dendritic cell size and to the increase in the amount of secondary phases. After the solution treatment, trace amount of $Al_8Mn_5$ particles were observed in the ${\alpha}$-(Mg) matrix for the AZ91 alloy, while $Mg_2Sn$ phase with high thermal stability was additionally found in the AZ91-5%Sn alloy. Before the solution treatment, the AZ91-5%Sn alloy had better corrosion resistance than the Sn-free alloy, which is caused by the enhanced barrier effect of the (${\beta}+Mg_2Sn$) phases formed more continuously along the dendritic cell boundaries. It is interesting to note that after the solution treatment, the corrosion rate of both alloys became increased, but the Sn-added alloy showed higher corrosion rate than the Sn-free alloy. The microstructural examination on the corroded surfaces revealed that the remaining $Mg_2Sn$ particles in the solution-treated AZ91-5%Sn alloy play a role in accelerating corrosion by galvanic coupling with the ${\alpha}$-(Mg) matrix.

Intensive theoretical and experimental studies have been carried out at Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) on controlling the bio absorbing rate of the Mg alloys with high mechanical strength through tailoring of electrochemical potential. Key technology for retarding the corrosion of the Mg alloys is to equalize the corrosion potentials of the constituent phases in the alloys, which prevented the formation of Galvanic circuit between the constituent phases resulting in remarkable reduction of corrosion rate. By thermodynamic consideration, the possible phases of a given alloy system were identified and their work functions, which are related to their corrosion potentials, were calculated by the first principle calculation. The designed alloys, of which the constituent phases have similar work function, were fabricated by clean melting and extrusion system. The newly developed Mg alloys named as KISTUI-MG showed much lower corrosion rate as well as higher strength than previously developed Mg alloys. Biocompatibility and feasibility of the Mg alloys as orthopedic implant materials were evaluated by in vitro cell viability test, in vitro degradation test of mechanical strength during bio-corrosion, in vivo implantation and continuous observation of the implant during in vivo absorbing procedures. Moreover, the cells attached on the Mg alloys was observed using cryo-FIB (focused ion beam) system without the distortion of cell morphology and its organ through the removal of drying steps essential for the preparation of normal SEM/TEM samples. Our Mg alloys showed excellent biocompatibility satisfying the regulations required for biomedical application without evident hydrogen evolution when it implanted into the muscle, inter spine disk, as well as condyle bone of rat and well contact interface with bone tissue when it was implanted into rat condyle.
In the case of hull material. large sized merchant ships are made of steel, on the other hand FRP or wood are used for small sized fishing boats. At present in Korea approximately 88,500 fishing boats are in operation of which 70% are made of FRP
In the meantime, stainless steel is frequently used as shaft materials of the small-size FRP fishing boat. Namely, the kinds of shaft materials are STS 304(18Cr-8Ni), STS 316(18Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo steel) and STS 630(17Cr-Ni-Nb steel)etc. Among these things, STS 304 which is the cheapest and having ordinary corrosion resistance is most widely used as 2nd class shaft material. But, using STS 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments entails a severe corrosion which causes shaft system troubles. Particularly, the corrosions tend to be concentrated of the stern and bow side, propeller shaft surface of inside of stern tube and the boat having no stern cooling pipe line system. As a solution for those problems, research on the ways to mitigate corrosion on the part of 2nd class stainless steel shaft have been undertaken. In the result, not only clarification for the reason of corrosion of the part of stainless steel shaft used mainly for the small-size FRP fishing boat was done, but also most optimal corrosion protection system was developed by experimenting shaft's protection simulation based of the electrochemical cathodic protection principle. In addition, verification through the field test on the optimal cathodic corrosion protection method by means of aluminum sacrificial anode was carried out. In this study, effective and economical shaft's protection system is suggested to the small-size FRP fishing boat operator by substantiating the results obtained from the research on the optimal cathodic protection.

This paper presents the results of the galvanic anode's characteristicsin the Al-Zn-In-Mg and Al-Zn-In-Mg system anodes used aluminium ingot of low purity, 99.5% grade. The results of thses performance tests are as follows: 1) Zn, In and Mg are an available elements to improve the performance of Aluminium alloy anodes. 2) When the range of zinc content in the Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode is 2-5% the more zinc content, the more improve the anode performance. 3) Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode requires a long term over 50 days for the performance test. 4) The composition of Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode which shows the most excellent performance is Al-(2-3%) Zn-(0.02%) In-(1.0%) Mg. 5) When the Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode is annealed for an hour in 500 to 550 .deg. C, the anode performance is improved. 6) The lower average potential and the better corrosion pattern in the Al-Zn-Mg, Al-Zn-In and Al-Zn-In-Mg system anodes, the more current efficiency is improved.
The crevice stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of austenitic stainless steels was evaluated in simulated pressurized water reactor (PWR) environments. To simulate the abnormal condition in temporary clamping devices on leaking small bore pipes, crevice bent beam (CBB) tests were performed in the oxygenated as well as hydrogenated conditions. No SCC cracks were found for SS316 in both conditions. SS304 also showed good resistance in the hydrogenated condition. However, all SS304 specimens showed SCC cracks in the oxygenated condition, indicating poor crevice SCC resistance. It was found that residual ferrites were selectively dissolved because of the galvanic corrosion coupled with the neigh-bouring austenite phase, resulting in SCC initiation in SS304. Crack morphologies were mostly transgranular assisted by the damaged δ-ferrite and deformation-induced slip bands.

Development and use of blended cement concrete is gaining more importance in the construction industry with reference to durability mainly due to the pore refinement and reduction in permeability. Cracks play a major role on important parameters like permeability, rate of chloride ingress, compressive strength and thus affect the reinforcement corrosion protection. Furthermore, when a crack occurs in the cover concrete, the corrosion of the steel reinforcement may be accelerated because the deterioration causing factors can pass through the crack. In recent years the effect of cracking on the penetration of concrete has been the subject of numerous investigations. Therefore assessing the service life using blended concrete becomes obviously in considering the durability. In the present study, the corrosion assessment of composite concrete beams with and without crack with of 0.3mm using OPC, 30% PFA, 60% GGBS, 10% SF was performed using half cell potential measurement, galvanic potential measurement, mass loss of steel over a period of 60days under marine environmental conditions and the results were discussed in detail.
In this study, electro-deposition method was applied to heal cracks in various blended concrete. The performance of the method was indirectly monitored by measuring impressed voltage, electrolyte, galvanic current monitoring, linear polarization resistance, and directly by image analysis of the cracks. The indirect and direct monitoring values are compared to develop guidelines for relating the indirect measures to actual crack healing. As a result, It was found that impressed voltage was convergence to 2.9V after 20000 minutes. From the galvanic current test results of artificial crack healing, the corrosion resistance showed that the order of 0.4 $>$ 0.6 $>$ 0.5 water to cement ratio. Furthermore, in view of binder, the corrosion resistance order was calculated OPC $>$ 60%GGBS $>$ 10%SF $>$ 30%PFA. Finally, It was found that 76.47% of healed crack surface calculated from the artificial crack healing technique using electrochemical deposition method.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the corrosion damage of large diameter metallic pipes buried in reclaimed land due to the corrosion effect by soil, and to propose a method of installing metal pipes in the reclaimed land. The results are as follow. First, the soil of the reclaimed land was gray clay, the soil specific resistance indicating soil corrosiveness was at least 120 Ω-cm, the pH was weakly acidic(5.04 to 5.60), the redox potential was at least 62 mV, the moisture content was at most 48.8%, and chlorine ions and sulfate ions were up to 4,706.1 mg/kg and 420 mg/kg. Therefore, the overall soil corrosivity score was up to 19, and the external corrosion effect seems to be very large. Second, the condition of straight part of pipes was in good condition, but most of KP joints were affected by corrosion at a severe level. The reason for this seems to be that KP joints accelerated corrosion due to stress and crevice corrosion in addition to galvanic corrosion in the same environment. Third, as a result of evaluating correlations of each item that affects the corrosion on the external part, the lower the soil resistivity and redox potential, the greater the effect on the KP joints corrosion, and the moisture content, chloride ion, and sulfate ion, the higher the value, the greater the effect on the corrosion of KP joints. In addition, among soil corrosion items, the coefficient of determination of soil resistivity with corrosion of KP joints was the highest with 0.6439~0.7672. Fourth, when installing metal pipes or other accessories because the soil of the reclaimed land is highly corrosive, it is necessary to apply a corrosion preventive method to extend the life of pipes and prevent leakage accidents caused by corrosion damage to the joint.

WC-( $Ti_{1-x}$ A $l_{x}$) N coatings of constant changing Al concentration were deposited on S45C substrates by high-ionization sputtered PVD method. The Al concentration could be controlled by using evaporation source for Al and fixing the evaporation rate of the metals (i.e, WC- $Ti_{0.86}$A $l_{0.14}$N, WC- $Ti_{0.72}$A $l_{0.28}$N, and WC- $Ti_{0.58}$A $l_{0.42}$N). The corrosion behavior of WC-( $Ti_{1-x}$ A $l_{x}$)N coatings in a deaerated 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical corrosion tests and surface analyses. The measured galvanic corrosion currents between coating and substrate indicated that WC- $Ti_{0.72}$A $l_{0.28}$N coating showed the best resistance of the coating tested. The results of potentiodynamic polarization tests showed that the WC- $Ti_{0.72}$A $l_{0.28}$N coating deposited with 32W/c $m^2$ of Al target revealed higher corrosion resistance. This indicated that the WC- $Ti_{0.72}$A $l_{0.28}$N coating is effective in improving corrosion resistance. In EIS, the WC- $Ti_{0.72}$A $l_{0.28}$N coating showed one time constant loop and increased a polarization resistance of coating ( $R_{coat}$) relative to other samples. Compositional variations of WC-( $Ti_{1-x}$ A $l_{x}$)N coatings were analyzed by EDS and XRD analysis was performed to evaluate the crystal structure and compounds formation behavior. Surface morphologies of the films were observed using SEM and AFM. Scratch test was performed to measure film adhesion strength.strength. adhesion strength.strength.
