  • In this paper, a LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) has been developed, which is operating at L-band i.e., 1452∼1492 MHz for satellite DAB(Digital Audio Brcadcasting) receiver. The LNA is designed to improve input and output reflection coefficient and VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) by balanced amplifier. The LNA consists of low noise amplification stage and gain amplification stage, which make a using of GaAs FET ATF-10136 and VNA-25 respectively, and is fabricated by hybrid method. To supply most suitable voltage and current, active bias circuit is designed Active biasing offers the advantage that variations in $V_P$ and $I_{DSS}$ will not necessitate a change in either the source or drain resistor value for a given bias condition. The active bias network automatically sets $V_{gs}$ for the desired drain voltage and drain current. The LNA is fabricated on FR-4 substrate with RF circuit and bias circuit, and integrated in aluminum housing. As a reults, the characteristics of the LNA implemented more than 32 dB in gain. 0.2 dB in gain flatness. lower than 0.95 dB in noise figure, 1.28 and 1.43 each input and output VSWR, and -13 dBm in $P_{1dB}$.

Also the link budget for communication transponder of COMSAT is designed. Bsaed on the channel modeling for group delay, non-linear and gain flatness characteristics, the system performances which provide high data rate (HDR) service were analyzed in Ka-band satellite channel. As the transmission data rate is increased, the degradation due to these channel characteristics is severely affect the system performance. To efficiently provide the various service via the same transmission system it is necessary to equlize the primary impairment factors. The optimum operating points of HDR satellite transmission system are implemeted and operated by considering the analyzed results on channel characteristics.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a Ultra-Wideband slot notch antenna by using a semi-circular extension. The proposed antenna cover the entire UWB band(3.1${\~}$10.6 GHz) and notch out the IEEE 802.1la frequency band(5.15${\~}$5.825 GHz) by inserting a $\lambda$/4 length slot into the patch. A prototype antenna was fabricated on FR-4( ${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, substrate thickness=0.8 mm) and measured for VSWR characteristics. The measured notched frequency variations versus frequency for different slot length. The path loss and group delay were measured. The proposed antenna also show a good gain flatness(1.9 dBi) except the IEEE 802.1la frequency band.

  • In this paper, a planar half-circle shape ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna fed by CPW is designed, fabricated and measured for UWB communications. Within the UWB band(3.1 GHz${\~}$10.6 GHz), 5.15 GHz${\~}$5.825 GHz frequency band is used by IEEE 802.1la WLAN applications. It may be necessary to notch out this band to avoid interference with IEEE 802.1la WLAN. Therefore, we have proposed three kinds of UWB antennas having a notch function, such as a rectangular slot, a hat-shaped slot a circle-shaped slot. The notch frequency of the proposed antenna can be adjusted by controlling the slot length or slot width. From the measured results, the proposed antennas show a good gain flatness except the IEEE 802.1la WLAN frequency band and have a reasonable agreement with simulated results.

  • A wide-band high power amplifier to use for radiated electromagnetic field immunity testing of EMS(Electromagnetic Susceptibility) standards has to meet IEC1000-4-3 specification in the frequency bandwidth of 80MHz to 1000MHz. The power amplifier to be described in this paper consists of driving and power stages with wide-band matched circuits by estimated impedances. The mismatching protection circuit is inserted in it to prevent from damage of power device when the output port of power amplifier is opened or shorted by user's mistake. The characteristics of the power amplifier are obtained output power over 100watts, gain over 40dB and flatness of $\pm$0.3dB in the frequency range of 80 ~300MHz. The harmonics suppression characteristics is measured over 20dBc. This wide-band high power amplifier can be useful fur radiated electromagnetic field immunity testing of IEC 1000-4-3 standard.

  • Owing to the advances in ADC and DSP technologies, signals in If band, which once had to be processed in analog technology, can new be digitally processed. This is referred to as "Digital IF" or "Digital Radio", which is a preliminary stage of SDR. Applying the digital radio technology to a multi-carrier receiver design, a processing gain is generated through an over-sampling of input data. In the digital receiver, decimation is performed for reducing the computational complexity CIC and half band filter is used together with the decimation as an anti-alising filter. The CIC filter, however, should introduce the roll-off phenomenon in the passband, which causes the receiving performance to be considerably degraded due to the distorted Passband flatness of receiving filter. In this paper, we designed a CIC roll-off compensation filter for W-CDMA digital receiver. The performance of the proposed compensation filter is confirmed through computer simulations in such a way that the BER is minimized by compensating the roll-off characteristics.off characteristics.

  • Based on the performance analyses for transmission channel and signal characteristics in digital satellite broadcasting system. the optimal design parameter values for system using QPSK modulation technique were proposed in this paper. The proper performance degradation were of 2.0dB for channel characteristics. O.4dB for transmission signal characteristics and 0.2dB for receiver characteristics. respectively. In this case. the design objectives for system parameters were within ${\pm}\;0.5dB$ for gain flatness in 27MHz bandwidth. and O.1nsec/MHz and $0.2sec/MHz^2$ for linear and parabolic group delay. respectively. Also. the optimal parameter values that provide the maximum availability were of OdB OBO for satellite transponder TWTA. and the optimal bandwidth for PLL circuit was of 40kHz with 0.707 damping factor. These analyses and design values can be available for high data rate transmission system via satellite.

  • In this paper, a compact 20 W block-up-converter for C-band satellite communication is designed and implemented. The designed block up-converter consists of an intermediate frequency circuit, a mixer and local oscillator, a driver amplifier, a solid-state power amplifier, waveguide circuits, and a power supply module. To reduce the size of the block-up-converter, all circuits are assembled within an housing, so its dimension is just $21{\times}14{\times}11cm^3$. Especially, the waveguide filter and microstirp-to-waveguide transition are easily implemented using an housing. Also, to meet spurious and harmonics specification, various compact microstrip filters including an elliptic filter are integrated. Measurement results show that the developed block up-converter has good electrical performances: the output power of 43.7 dBm, the minimum gain of 65 dB, the gain flatness of ${\pm}1.84$, the IMD3 of -35 dBc, and the harmonic level of -105 dBc.

  • In this paper, the cryogenically cooled low noise amplifier module for radio telescope receiver front-end using pHE-MT MMIC is designed and fabricated. In the selection of MMIC, the MMIC fabricated with the pHEMTS providing successful cryogenic operation are chosen. They are mounted in the housing using the thin film substrate. In the design of the housing, the absorber and the elimination of the gap between the carrier and the housing as well removed the unnecessary oscillations by its structure. The mismatch is improved by ribbon-tuning to provide the best performance at room temperature. The fabricated module shows the gain of $35dB{\pm}1dB$ and the noise figure of $2.37{\sim}2.57dB$ at room temperature over $21.5{\sim}23.5GHz$. In the cryogenic temperature of $15^{\circ}K$ cooled by He gas, the measured gain was above 35 dB and flatness ${\pm}2dB$ and the noise temperatures of $28{\sim}37^{\circ}K$.
