  • There are various researchers who studied the relationship between seasons and feelings. However, only a few did shed light on how these two variables affect decision-making and physical behaviors especially prosocial behavior which emphasize on the benefits of other people and/or society as a whole. Due to a lack of studies on the topic, we investigated whether the combination of seasons and message framing could be useful in eliciting intention to help on an environmental issue. A 3x2 experiment examined the interactions between seasonal mood (summer, winter, controlled) and types of message framing (gain, loss) on future helping intention (volunteer, donation, petition signing). The findings suggest that in normal circumstances where seasonal mood were not applied, gain message framing was more effective in promoting higher intention to sign a petition than loss message framing. However, when thinking of winter, loss message framing has greater ability to do so than gain message framing. Moreover, seasons and mood are found to be associated with a higher positive mood in summer and a negative mood in winter. Lastly, limitations and implications are discussed.

How Framing of the Benefits of Eco-friendly Products Alters Consumers' Choices: Non-Monetary Framing vs. Monetary Framing Following Hedonic Editing Hypothesis (친환경 제품 효익 제시 방법에 따른 친환경 제품 선택 비율 차이: 비금전적 제시 vs 쾌락적 편집 가설에 따른 금전적 제시)

  • Purpose - This research aims to investigate how consumers' eco-friendly product choice ratio changes as the benefits of eco-friendly products are framed as (1) non-monetary benefits, (2) monetary gain integrated with the loss or (3) monetary gain segregated from the loss. Design/methodology/approach - A mixed-design, scenario-based choice experiment was conducted. A series of chi-square tests and residual analyses were conducted to analyze the data. Findings - When the monetary gain was larger or slightly smaller than the loss, the participants' eco-friendly product choice ratio was higher when the monetary gain was integrated with the loss than those in the other two conditions. When the monetary gain was significantly smaller than the loss, the participants' eco-friendly product choice ratio was lower when the monetary gain was integrated with the loss than those in the other conditions. The ratio did not differ between the latter two conditions. Research implications or Originality - This research shows that marketers should frame the benefits of eco-friendly products and their costs in different manners depending on the relative magnitudes of them. This research also complements the existing literature by comparing the effectiveness of non-monetary framing of eco-friendly product benefits with that of monetary framing following hedonic editing hypothesis.

  • This study explored message framing methods for effective campaigns to prevent suicide. In particular, the study reviews the gain message and the loss message. In the effect of campaign message, gender differences and Any differences between the suicide high risk group and low risk group were explored. Subjects were a total of 98 people. A total of 10 messages were presented as loss framing and gain framing, respectively. The attitude towards these messages were then measured. Suicide low risk group showed favorable attitude toward gain framing messages that emphasized the benefits of not committing suicide. Meanwhile suicide high risk group showed a similar effect of gain framing and loss framing. Compared to men, women showed a favorable attitude toward gain framing. also high persuasive effects. In other words, this indicates that a more effective way of expressing messages to prevent suicides is to take a positive approach rather than a negative approach. Implications of the these findings are discussed and directions for future research are advanced.

  • Messages to help people far away, such as International relief campaign, are heavily influenced by situational factors. In this light, the study examined whether the message characteristics (gain/loss framing) and the individual characteristics (previous attitude to helping activity) interact to affect the message attitude and behavioral intention. The study was conducted by an experiment involving 220 subjects. The analysis resulted in the significant interactions between gain/loss framing and pre-attitude by the same direction for message attitudes and behavioral intention. It was shown that gain framing worked more effectively for the relatively more friendly group towards helping activities than for the less friendly one. The same direction was shown in the loss framing, but its difference was smaller. The process of the interactions appeared as mediated by anticipated satisfaction. The practical and theoretical implications were discussed for proper planning of messages to help others.

  • As the types of actions and the magnitude of the required actions for environmental improvement get diversified, the necessity to develop effective messages is increasing. This research tries to develop proper messages with message characteristics of message framing and value orientation per different types of behaviors using a 2(message framing: gain/loss) × 2(value orientation: individual/social) × 2(magnitude of the requested behaviors: high/low). The results showed that framing and the magnitude of the requested behaviors had main effects on message attitudes and behavioral intentions. The gain framing showed more favorable effects than the loss framing, and the low magnitude of the requested behaviors showed better persuasive effects. According to the results of interaction effects, the gain framing showed higher behavioral intentions than the loss framing in the individual-oriented message, and there were no differences between the frames in the social-oriented message. When the magnitude of the requested behavior was high, the gain framing in the individual-oriented message was more favorable than the loss framing. On the other hand, when the magnitude of the requested behavior was low, the gain framing in the social-oriented message was more favorable. Although there were differences in the form of interactions by the magnitude of the requested behaviors, the individual-oriented gain framing message was found to be the most effective.

  • To develop prevention messages for increasingly severe adolescent obesity in China. this study tested interaction effects between obesity involvement and message framing, and between obesity involvement and evidence types on obesity prevention attitudes and behavioral intentions. Message framing types are categorized with a gain frame and a loss frame. Evidence types are classified into narratives based on personal experiences and statistics based on objective numerical proofs. Three hundred sixty eight Chinese adolescents participated in the study. Results found that involvement, framing, and evidence types had significant effects on attitudes and behavioral intentions to obesity prevention. Adolescents highly involved in obesity were more likely to show positive attitudes and behavioral intentions when exposed to loss framing and statistical evidence. Those with low involvement showed positive attitudes and behavioral intentions after exposed to gain framing and narratives. Thus, we suggest that loss frames with numerical data should be developed to persuade adolescents with high involvement, and gain frames with narratives should be developed for those with low involvement.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of interpretation level and intention to use message framing when autonomous vehicle, which is emerging as the product of 4th industrial revolution, is used as taxi, Interpretation level refers to the interpretation of a product or service, assuming that it will happen in the near future or in the distant future. Message framing refers to the formation of positive or negative expressions or messages at the extremes of benefits and losses. In other words, previous studies interpret the value of a product or service differently according to these two concepts. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there are differences in intention to use when two concepts are applied when an autonomous vehicle is launched as a taxi. The results are summarized as follows: First, the message format explaining the gain and why should be used when using the autonomous taxi in the message framing configuration, and the loss and how when the autonomous taxi is not used. Messages were constructed and compared. The two message framing differed (t = 3.063), and the message type describing the benefits and reasons showed a higher intention to use. In addition, the results according to interpretation level are summarized as follows. There was a difference in intentions to use when assuming that it would occur in the near future and in the near future with respect to the gain and loss, Respectively. In summary, in order to increase the intention of using autonomous taxis, it is concluded that messages should be given to people assuming positive messages (Gain) and what can happen in the distant future. In addition, this study will be able to utilize the research method in studying intention to use new technology. However, this study has the following limitations. First, it assumes message framing and time without user experience of autonomous taxi. This will be different from the actual experience of using an autonomous taxi in the future. Second, self-driving cars should technical progress is continuing, but laws and institutions must be established in order to commercialize it and build the infrastructure to operate the autonomous car. Considering this fact, the results of this study can not reflect a more realistic aspect. However, there is a practical limit to search for users with sufficient experience in new technologies such as autonomous vehicles. In fact, although the autonomous car to take advantage of the public transportation by taxi is now ready for the road infrastructure, and technical and legal public may not be willing to choose to not have enough knowledge to use the Autonomous cab. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is that by assuming that autonomous cars will be commercialized by taxi you can do to take advantage of the autonomous car, it is necessary to frame the message, why can most effectively be used to find how to deliver. In addition, the research methodology should be improved and future research should be done as follows. First, most students responded in this study. It is also true that it is difficult to generalize the hypotheses to be tested in this study. Therefore, in future studies, it would be reasonable to investigate the population of various distribution considering the age, area, occupation, education level, etc. Where autonomous taxi can be used rather than those who can drive. Second, it is desirable to construct various message framing of the questionnaire, but it is necessary to learn various message framing in advance and to prevent errors in response to the next message framing. Therefore, it is desirable to measure the message framing with a certain amount of time when the questionnaire is designed.

  • This study investigated the tax compliance applying framing effect, with the influence of detection rates, client advocacy, risk seeking tendency on the amount of income declared. Questionaires were filled in by CFA in Busan. Questionaires involve three cases (newly founded company, loss-expected company, gain-expected company). Respondents declared least in newly founded company, next loss-expected company, to gain-expected company. Respondents declared more as detection rates rose. As client advocacy increases, newly founded company and loss-expected company declare less, while gain-expected company declare more. As risk seeking tendency increases, newly founded company and loss-expected company declare less, but gain-expected company. Finally the interaction effect between client advocacy and risk seeking tendency is supported.

  • This article aims to explore the interactive roles of types of primed identity (local versus global identity) and types of ad framing on brand evaluations. The authors designed 2 experiments in which each experiment followed a $2{\times}2$ between-subject design. The empirical results showed that a gain-framed ad induced more positive emotional responses than a loss-framed ad, and the positive affective responses lead to more favorable brand evaluation. Furthermore, the results showed that there were interactive effects of primed identity and types of advertisement frame on brand evaluation. In the additional analysis, the results showed that when people with local identity were exposed to the gain-framed ad, they would engage in a higher level of integration processing than those in the control group, which in turn induced more favorable evaluation to the local brand. That is, the integration processing mode played a mediating role between the interaction (local id priming ${\times}$ ad frame) and the local brand evaluation. However, in the case of global brand evaluation, the integration processing mode did not play such a mediating role.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between type of advertising and brand attachment. We divide advertising type into loss and gain frame and examine the effect on brand attachment, The effect of scarcity advertising on brand attachment and the effects of interaction effects on brand attachment were examined. The results showed that the effect of the loss and gain frame on brand attachment was not statistically significant. It also showed that scarcity was not emphasized or emphasized or had no effect on brand attachment. That is, the more emphasis on gain in advertising frame and the less pressure on scarcity, the more effective ad type for brand attachment.
