  • This article describes the interview data with two preservice teachers where they dealt with five water-filling problems for the investigation of their covariational thinking. The study's results revealed that two students developed their covariation levels from Direction level to Instantaneous Rate with an aid of the pre-constructed GSP simulations for the problem situations. However, this study also points out that there is a missing important feature for a function notion, 'causality' in the covariation framework and suggests that future research should combine students' conception of causality with their covariational thinking for the investigation of their development of a function concept.

  • A Propulsion System of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) was composed of the turbojet engine to generate the propulsive exhaust gas, and the duct system including straight bent ducts, tip-jet nozzles, a master valve and a variable main nozzle for three flight modes such as lift/landing mode, low speed transition flight mode and high speed forward flight mode. In this study, in order to operate safely the propulsion system, the dynamic Performance behavior of the system was modeled and simulated using the SIMULIN $K^{ }$, which is the user-friendly GUI type dynamic analysis tool provided by MATLA $B^{ }$. In the transient performance model, the inter-component volume model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight condition, valve angle positions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Performance analysis results using the SIMULIN $K^{ }$ performance program were compared with them using the commercial program GSP.m GSP.

  • Regarding to the project SUAV (Smart Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) in KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute), several engine configurations has been evaluated. However it's not an easy task to collect all the necessary data of each engine for the analysis. Usually, some kind of modeling technique is required in order to determine the unknown data. In the present paper a qualitative method for reverse engineering is proposed, in order to identify some design patterns and relationships between parameters. The method can be used to estimate several parameters that usually are not provided by the manufacturer. The method consists of modeling an existing engine and through a simulation, compare its transient behavior with its operating envelope. In the simulation several parameters such as thermodynamics, performance, safety and mechanics concerning to the definition of operation-envelope, have been discussed qualitatively. With the model, all engine parameters can be estimated with acceptable accuracy, making possible the study of dependencies among different parameters such as power-turbine total inertia, TIT, take-off time and part load, in order to check if the engine transient performance is within the design criteria. For more realistic approach and more detailed design requirements, it will be necessary to enhance the compressor map first, and more realistic estimated values must be taken into account for intake-loss, bleed-air and auxiliary power extraction. The relative importance of these “unknown” parameters must be evaluated using sensitivity analysis in the future evaluation. Moreover, fluid dynamics, thermal analysis and stress analysis necessary for the resulting life assessment of en engine, will not be addressed here but in a future paper. With the methodology presented in the paper was possible to infer the relationships between operation-envelope and engine parameters.

  • The moisture in the atmosphere exerts a lot of influence upon Gas turbine engine performances. There is a noticeable influence of wet air at the summer sea level, high flight mach number and low engine rpm increasingly. An altitude Engine Test Facility is used to accomplish the engine performance tests at dry air condition and wet air condition, through which engine performance results is revealed. Also, Gas turbine Simulation Program is used to predict the variation of engine performance due to inlet humidity. In the result, net thrust and specific fuel consumption measured -2.826% and 1.325%, respectively at wet air condition compared to dry air condition.

  • This paper presents a CMOS TIQ flash A/D converter which operates very fast compared to other types of A/D converters due to its parallel architecture. The output resolution of designed A/D converter is 6-bit. In order to reduce the power consumption and chip area of conventional flash A/D converter, TIQ based flash A/D converter is proposed, which uses the advantage of the structure of CMOS transistors. The length and width of transistors of TIQ were determined with HSPICE simulation. To speed up the ultra-high speed flash A/D converter, the Fat Tree Encoder technique is used. The TIQ A/D converter was designed with full custom method. The chip's maximum power consumption was 38.45mW at 1.8V, and the operating speed of simulation was 2.7 GSPS.

  • Computer technology has a potential to change the contents of school mathematics and the way of teaching mathematics. But in our country, the problem whether computer technology should be introduced into mathematics classroom or not was not resolved yet. As a tool, computer technology can be used by teachers who are confident of the effectiveness and who can use it skillfully and can help students to understand mathematics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effective way to introduce and utilize computer technology based on the status quo of mathematics classroom setting. One possible way to utilize computer technology in mathematics classroom in spite of the lack of computer and the inaccessibility of useful software is using domain specific simulation software like 'Polyhedron'. 'Polyhedron', as we can guess from the name, can be used to explore regular and semi regular polyhedra and the relationship between them. Its functions are limited but it can visualize regular polyhedra, transform regular polyhedra into other polyhedra. So it is easier to operate than other dynamic geometry software like GSP. To investigate the effect of using this software in mathematics class, three classes(one in 6th grade from science education institute for the gifted, two in 7th grade) were chosen. Activities focused on the relationship between regular and semi regular polyhedra. After the class, several conclusions were drawn from the observation. First, 'Polyhedron' can be used effectively to explore the relationship between regular and semi regular polyhedra. Second, 'Polyhedron' can motivate students. Third, Students can understand the duality of polyhedra. Fourth, Students can visualize various polyhedra by reasoning. To help teachers in using technology, web sites like NCTM's illuminations and NLVM of Utah university need to be developed.

  • This paper presents a new TIQ based CMOS flash 6-bit ADC to process digital signal in real time. In order to improve the conversion speed of ADC by designing new logic or layout of ADC circuits, a new design method is proposed in encoding logic circuits. The proposed encoding circuits convert analog input into digitally encoded double base number system(DBNS), which uses two bases unlike the normal binary representation scheme. The DBNS adopts binary and ternary radix to enhance digital arithmetic processing capability. In the DBNS, the addition and multiplication can be processed with just shift operations only. Finding near canonical representation is the most important work in general DBNS. But the main disadvantage of DBNS representation in ADC is the fan-in problem. Thus, an equal distribution algorithm is developed to solve the fan-in problem after assignment the prime numbers first. The conversion speed of simulation result was 1.6 GSPS, at 1.8V power with the Magna $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and the maximum power consumption was 38.71mW.
