For high performance Grid environments, an efficient GIS(Grid Information Service is required In the Metacomputing Directory Service(MDS) of the Glogus middleware, the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol(LDAP), which is a distributed directory service protocol, is used. The LDAP GIS differs from general purpose LDAP directories in that most of the LDAP operations are write in Grid environments. To get an efficient design of the GIS, it is thus required to analyze the performance of the LDAP system in the context of Grid environments. This paper presents the result of a performance analysis of LDAP systems. The main objective of the evaluation is to see the performance scalability of the LDAP system in the Grid environment where the write operations prevails. Based on these results, we suggest directions of an efficient LDAP-based GIS for a high performance Grid.
To develop and improve a GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear), the prediction of the pressure in puffer cylinder and the flow between the nozzle and the moving electrode within GIS is very important. The leading companies in GIS business issue the results of the study of flow within GIS including arc plasma. In this study, the characteristics of the flow of the GIS developed by HHI(Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.) was investigated. To simulate the compressible flow of GIS, the CFX, a commercial CFD code, was used. With moving grid method, the movement of piston and electrode was simulated. The moving grid method was superior to the method of varying the property of cells to move an obsticle, in stability and convergencce of solution. The calculated maximum pressure within the puffer cylinder was matched with experimental data within $5{\%}$ error. The oscilation of pressure in GIS after the movement of electrode was well predicted.
Remote sensing data processing and analysis system can be developed based on the Grid Coverage Specification and this kind of system is also can be easily interoperate with GIS systems conforming OpenGIS specification. This paper proposes a method to implement easily and quickly the new grid coverages that provide new operations, or services, by reusing the existing grid coverage components, which is based on the fact that the pipeline constructed by grid coverages can be represented in one grid coverage. This method complements easily the deficiency of the existing grid coverage components and enables quick implementation of the new grid coverage that provides complex processing operations.

Hydrologic-topographical parameters were extracted using GIS. The use of GIS is more effective and exact than the execution by person. And the purpose of this paper is to extract more efficient size of grid for DEM analysis by applying GIS technology. As a result, when the grid size is less than $100m{\times}100m$ the trend of extracted parameters is similar but when the grid size is over $100m{\times}100m$ the trend of extraction parameters is dispersive. Therefore, it is appropriate to extract hydrologic-topographical parameters the grid size of $100m{\times}100m$ in DEM analysis.
In recent years, pollution load calculation has become a topic for research that resulted in the development of numerous GIS modeling methods. The existing pollution method for nonpoint source (NPS) can not be indentified and calculated the amount of the pollution precisely. This research shows that the association of typical pollutant concentrations with land uses in a watershed can provide a reasonably accurate characterization of nonpoint source pollution in the watershed using Expected Mean Concentrations (EMC). The GIS based pollution assessment method is performed for three pollutant constituents: BOD, TN, and TP. First, the runoff grid by means of the precipitation grid and runoff coefficient is estimated. Then, the NPS pollution loads are calculated by grid based method. Finally, the final outputs are evaluated by statistical technique. The results illustrate the merits of the approach. This model verified that GIS based method of estimating spatially distributed NPS pollution loads can lead to more accurate representation of the real world.
A grid-based KIneMatic wave soil-water EROsion and deposition Model(KIMEROM) that predicts temporal variation and spatial distribution of sediment transport in a watershed was developed. This model uses ASCII-formatted map data supported from the regular gridded map of GRASS (U.S. Army CERL, 1993)-GIS(Geographic Information Systems), and generates the distributed results by ASCII-formatted map data. For hydrologic process, the kinematic wave equation and Darcy equation were used to simulated surface and subsurface flow, respectively (Kim, 1998; Kim et al., 1998). For soil erosion process, the physically-based soil erosion concept by Rose and Hairsine (1988) was used to simulate soil-water erosion and deposition. The model adopts single overland flowpath algorithm and simulates surface and subsurface water depth, and sediment concentration at each grid element for a given time increment. The model was tested to a 162.3 $\textrm{km}^2$ watershed located in the tideland reclaimed ares of South Korea. After the hydrologic calibration for two storm events in 1999, the results of sediment transport were presented for the same storm events. The results of temporal variation and spatial distribution of overland flow and sediment areas are shown using GRASS.

A research of grid computing that is the combination of computer resources from multiple distributed administrative domains to get large amount of computing power is underway. This research is an application of grid technology on a urban facilities management system based on u-GIS. The sensors are set up in the urban facilities to make it monitoring. If an amount of sensors and gateways is increased, the server needs more computing resources to process the data. In this study we developed the skills that can distribute jobs to idle gateway, in case of the server capacity had approached threshold. It will be possible to develop of economic and efficient system that will apply to large amount of data processing about u-City.

Most grid-based distributed hydrologic models are complex in terms of data requirements, parameter estimation and computational demand. To address these issues, a simple grid-based hydrologic model is developed in a geographic information system (GIS) environment using storage-release concept. The model is named GIS Storage Release Model (GIS-StoRM). The storage-release concept uses the travel time within each cell to compute howmuch water is stored or released to the watershed outlet at each time step. The travel time within each cell is computed by combining the kinematic wave equation with Manning's equation. The input to GIS-StoRM includes geospatial datasets such as radar rainfall data (NEXRAD), land use and digital elevation model (DEM). The structural framework for GIS-StoRM is developed by exploiting geographic features in GIS as hydrologic modeling objects, which store and process geospatial and temporal information for hydrologic modeling. Hydrologic modeling objects developed in this study handle time series, raster and vector data within GIS to: (i) exchange input-output between modeling objects, (ii) extract parameters from GIS data; and (iii) simulate hydrologic processes. Conceptual and structural framework of GIS StoRM including its application to Pleasant Creek watershed in Indiana will be presented.

Until now, Many approach to use the layer or attribute items in GIS the classification results of remotely sensed images is going on, but It was rarely ever tried to use the results of fuzzy classification in GIS. The fuzzy classification can be accurate than any other classification methods of remotely sensed images and can separately extract the result for each classification items. In this study, We applied to GIS database implementation with fuzzy classification result. In the process of this study, We convert the fuzzy classification image into the grid of GIS database, and Membership Grade Value files transformed to table database into the GIS. And then Membership Grade Values related to each grid-cell of database be able to verify with pointer layer. Finally, we can use the fuzzy classification images in GIS database.
To develop GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), prediction of the flow field including pressure in GIS is very important. The transport phenomena in GIS including arc is also being studied in these days. In this study, to predict the arc behaviour for GIS with voltage rating up to 800kV developed by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.), the analysis of flow and electric field in GIS were investigated. To simulate the compressible flow in GIS, the CFX, commercial CFD code, was used. The movement of the piston and the electrode of the GIS was simulated with moving grid method, which was superior to the method of varying the property of cells in the aspect of accuracy and convergence of solution. The calculated maximum pressure within the puffer cylinder was matched with experimental data within 5% error. Also, the oscillation of pressure in GIS after the movement of electrode was well predicted.
