  • Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) were generated by ERS-l/2 and JERS-1 SAR interferometry in Daejon area, Korea. The quality of the DEM's was evaluated by the Ground Control Points (GCPs) in city area where GCPs were determined by GPS surveys, while in the mountain area with no GCPs, a 1:25,000 digital map was used. In order to minimize errors due to the inaccurate satellite orbit information and the phase unwrapping procedure, a Differential InSAR (DInSAR) was implemented in addition to the traditional InSAR analysis for DEM generation. In addition, DEMs from GTOPO30, SRTM-3, and 1:25,000 digital map were used for assessment the resolution of the DEM generated from DInSAR. 5-6 meters of elevation errors were found in the flat area regardless of the usage and the resolution of DEM, as a result of InSAR analyzing with a pair of ERS tandem and 6 pairs of JERS-1 interferograms. In the mountain area, however, DInSAR with DEMs from SRTM-3 and the digital map was found to be very effective to reduce errors due to phase unwrapping procedure. Also errors due to low signal-to-noise ratio of radar images and atmospheric effect were attenuated in the DEMs generated from the stacking of 6 pairs of JERS-1. SAR interferometry with multiple pairs of SAR interferogram with low resolution DEM can be effectively used to enhance the resolution of DEM in terms of data processing time and cost.

  • In spite of continued nourishments, Haeundae Beach in Busan has been suffering from erosion, this being caused by the increased wave energy due to global warming and intermittent typhoon reported by previous works. In the meantime, the typhoon Chaba hit Basan in October 2016. In order to investigate the effects of the typhoon in beach erosion and how fast the beach recovered after the typhoon, repeated beach profiling using a VRS-GPS system was carried out, and the grain size analyses for surface sediments sampled on the beach were conducted. Immediately after the typhoon invasion, Haeundae beach was eroded by 1.4 m in average height. The mean high tide lines were retreated back by 12 m, and beach slope became gentler from $3.8^{\circ}$ to $1.7^{\circ}$. The mean grain sizes of surface sediments became coarser from $1.6{\Phi}$ to $1.2{\Phi}$ after two months, and the sorting well sorted. After two months of typhoon landfall, the mean high tide lines have recovered by 85%, and the beach topography almost recovered. This suggests that the impact of typhoons on Haeundae beach erosion is negligible, and the relaxation time is shorter than that of other beaches.

  • In this paper we proposed a new ocean radiation automatic monitoring system. The proposed system has the following characteristics: First, using NaI + PVT mixed detectors, the response speed is fast and precision analysis is possible. Second, the application of temperature compensation algorithm to scintillator-type sensors does not require additional cooling devices and enables stable operation in the changing ocean environment. Third, since cooling system is not needed, electricity consumption is low, and electricity can be supplied reliably by utilizing solar energy, which can be installed at the observation deck of ocean environment. Fourth, using GPS and wireless communications, accurate location information and real-time data transmission function for measurement areas enables immediate warning response in the event of nuclear accidents such as those involving neighboring countries. The results tested by the authorized testing agency to assess the performance of the proposed system were measured in the range of $5{\mu}Sv/h$ to 15mSv/h, which is the highest level in the world, and the accuracy was determined to be ${\pm}8.1%$, making normal operation below the international standard ${\pm}15%$. The internal environmental grade (waterproof) was achieved, and the rate of variation was measured within 5% at operating temperature of $-20^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ and stability was verified. Since the measured value change rate was measured within 10% after the vibration test, it was confirmed that there will be no change in the measured value due to vibration in the ocean environment caused by waves.

  • Drone mapping systems can be applied to many fields such as disaster damage investigation, environmental monitoring, and construction process monitoring. To integrate individual sensors attached to a drone, it was essential to undergo complicated procedures including time synchronization. Recently, a variety of composite sensors are released which consist of visual sensors and GPS/INS. Composite sensors integrate multi-sensory data internally, and they provide geotagged image files to users. Therefore, to use composite sensors in drone mapping systems, mapping accuracies from composite sensors should be examined. In this study, we analyzed the mapping accuracies of a composite sensor, focusing on the data acquisition area and pre-calibration effect. In the first experiment, we analyzed how mapping accuracy varies with the number of ground control points. When 2 GCPs were used for mapping, the total RMSE has been reduced by 40 cm from more than 1 m to about 60 cm. In the second experiment, we assessed mapping accuracies based on whether pre-calibration is conducted or not. Using a few ground control points showed the pre-calibration does not affect mapping accuracies. The formation of weak geometry of the image sequences has resulted that pre-calibration can be essential to decrease possible mapping errors. In the absence of ground control points, pre-calibration also can improve mapping errors. Based on this study, we expect future drone mapping systems using composite sensors will contribute to streamlining a survey and calibration process depending on the data acquisition circumstances.

  • In this paper, we propose a system for monitoring air pollutants such as fine dust using an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation. The existing air quality management system used a method of collecting information through a fixed sensor box or through a measurement sensor of a drone using a control device. This has disadvantages in that additional procedures for data collection and transmission must be performed in a limited space and for monitoring. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a GPS module for location information and a PMS7003 module for fine dust measurement are embedded in an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation through flight information designation, and the collected information is stored in the SD module, and after the flight is completed, press the transmit button. It configures a system of one-stop structure that is stored in a remote database through a smartphone app connected via Bluetooth. In addition, an HTML5-based web monitoring page for real-time monitoring is configured and provided to interested users. The results of this study can be utilized in an environmental monitoring system through an unmanned aerial vehicle, and in the future, various pollutants measuring sensors such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide will be added to develop it into a total environmental control system.

  • This paper presented a new technology to identify traffic violations of motorbike riders by detecting the traffic signal using You Only Look Once (YOLO) object detection. The hardware module that is mounted on the front of the motorbike consists of Raspberry Pi with a camera to run the YOLO object detection, a GPS module to acquire the motorcycle's coordinate, and a LoRa communication module to send the data to a cloud DB. The main goal of the software is to determine whether a motorbike has violated a traffic signal. This paper proposes a function to recognize the red traffic signal colour with its movement inside the camera angle and determine that the traffic signal violation happens if the traffic signal is moving to the right direction (the rider turns left) or moving to the top direction (the riders goes straight). Furthermore, if a motorbike rider is violated the signal, the rider's personal information (name, mobile phone number, etc), the snapshot of the violation situation, rider's location, and date/time will be sent to a cloud DB. The violation information will be delivered to the driver's smartphone as a push notification and the local police station to be used for issuing violation tickets, which is expected to prevent motorbike riders from violating traffic signals.

  • In this study, we propose an SNS sentence writing assistance system that utilizes YOLO and GPT to assist users in writing texts with images, such as SNS. We utilize the YOLO model to extract objects from images inserted during writing, and also extract meta-information such as GPS information and creation time information, and use them as prompt values for GPT. To use the YOLO model, we trained it on form image data, and the mAP score of the model is about 0.25 on average. GPT was trained on 1,000 blog text data with the topic of 'restaurant reviews', and the model trained in this study was used to generate sentences with two types of keywords extracted from the images. A survey was conducted to evaluate the practicality of the generated sentences, and a closed-ended survey was conducted to clearly analyze the survey results. There were three evaluation items for the questionnaire by providing the inserted image and keyword sentences. The results showed that the keywords in the images generated meaningful sentences. Through this study, we found that the accuracy of image-based sentence generation depends on the relationship between image keywords and GPT learning contents.

  • The monitoring of environmental information (e.g. noise, dust, vibration, temperature, humidity) is crucial to the safe and sustainable operation of a construction site. However, commercial sensors exhibit certain drawbacks when applied on-site. First, the installation cost is prohibitively high. Second, these sensors have been engineered without considering the rugged and harsh conditions of a construction site, resulting in error-prone sensing. Third, construction sites are compelled to allocate additional resources in terms of manpower, expenses, and physical spaces to accommodate individual sensors. This research developed an integrated sensing module to measure the environmental information in construction site. The sensing module slashes the installation cost to 3.3%, is robust enough to harsh and outdoor sites, and consolidates multiple sensors into a single unit. The sensing module also supports GPS, LTE, and real-time sensing. The evaluation showed remarkable results including 97.5% accuracy and 99.9% precision in noise measurement, an 89.7% accuracy in dust measurement, and a 93.5% reliability in data transmission. This research empowers the collection of substantial volumes and high-quality environmental data from construction sites, providing invaluable support to decision-making process. These encompass objective regulatory compliance checking, simulations of environmental data dispersion, and the development of environmental mitigation strategies.

  • Recently, there has been explosive growth in Internet service contents, and we have witnessed the emergence of many real-time applications on the Internet. These types of applications require special support from the underlying network such as reliability, timeless, and guaranteed delivery, as well as different levels of service quality. Estimation network status and transcoding data rate are researching for QoS of multimedia service by using the RTP/RTCP. We propose two schemes that the way to calculate the one-way delay by expanding the structure of RTP/RTCP in Internet that provides us 'best effort' service and to estimate the network condition by using this in this paper. And we propose the dynamic RTCP mechanism based on one-way delay to deal with rapidly changed network situation immediately. In simulation, proposed monitoring schemes using the one-way delay has similar in performance to monitoring schemes using the GPS, proposed dynamic RTCP scheme obtain the desired result of decreased packet loss rate by sending RTCP RR packet lower than other schemes.
