  • The users who use a combined GPS/Galileo receiver will benefit from an improved availability of the combined system and a reduced dependence on one particular positioning system. However, these users must solve the problem of an offset between the time scales of GPS and Galileo (GGTO). GGTO must be analyzed for not only a navigation system but also a timing system requesting precise time service. This paper analyzes the interoperability problem in a combined GPS/Galileo timing receiver and estimates the timing performance under various assumptions. The GPS real measurements were collected by using the commercial timing receiver from Ashtech Ltd. and the Galileo measurements were generated by a simulation software. A suitable test scenario set-up and the performance in a point of timing stability was evaluated.

  • In this study, the Ocean Tide Loading (OTL) constituents were detected by the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technique using GPS. Then, the GPS estimates of OTL constituents were compared with the predictions of the ocean tide models. We picked three permanent GPS stations as test sites and they are ICNW, SEOS, and CJUN. To detect the OTL constituents using GPS, we created vertical coordinate time series at 10-minute intervals using the PPP approach implemented in the GIPSY software. Through the tidal harmonic analysis of this height time series, the four major constituents ($M_2$, $S_2$, $K_1$, $O_1$) were determined. The amplitude obtained from the GPS height time series of the OTL constituents showed best match with the model predictions at CJUN, while the phase showed closest match at ICNW. The amplitude accuracy of the $M_2$, which is the dominant factor out of the 11 major constituents, was 24.8% on average.

  • This paper presents a performance analysis of the GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver on board in LEO satellites, based on the comparison of its in-orbit performances and corresponding ground test results. An extensive ground tests on the subject GPS receiver has been performed in diverse conditions under the right frame of ground test environments and the analysis of in-orbit performances has also been performed with the huge amount of accumulated GPS data which has been in operation for 6 years since its launch on 2006. For this analysis, we chose three sets of in-orbit data; the data during the early mission period, the data at the 3-year mission completion time, and the most recent in-orbit data. As the performance measures, we selected the position and time synchronization accuracy, and the comparative analysis shows the concurrency between the in-orbit performances and the ground test results with in these performance measures, verifying the validity of the ground test. It is expected that the test configuration and analysis method presented in this paper can be applied to developing and verifying the future Koreanized satellite GPS receivers.

  • Kinematic GPS surveying which can be obtained many three-dimensional topographical informations through a short-time measurement is being utilized mainly in the short base line of a few km and below The coordinate for the long base line depends on Static GPS surveying But it needs long time measurement. Therefore, the method which can decide a position of the long base line for a short time is being needed. To examine a possibility of an efficient use of kinematic GPS surveying of the long base line, this research has analysed an accuracy of the base line by static GPS surveying according to baseline distance, ephmeris, and observation time. As the results of research, I could see that accuracy was very low in case of the occurrence of cycle slip. When we use of precise ephmeris, we obtained 1ppm and less of accuracy with one-minute kinematic GPS surveying within 70km. If a lot of studies about the long baseline kinematic GPS surveying are processed, a topographical information necessary for each kind of construction field including land development could be utilized more efficiently.

  • This study is aimed to develop a system to position and manage object flow in real time. Logistics management system which position objects and vans using GPS is required to load, unload and keep freight effectively and in real time at sea or airport. In this study, a management system which is consisted of five sub-systems is developed; GPS position analysis system, GPS interface system, mapping system, network system and database management system.

  • Tropospheric parameters, in the form of Total Zenith Delay (TZD) corrections, were estimated with the current GPS network of Korea. We estimated the TZD using the Korea Astronomy Observatory GPS Network of nine permanent stations. About four years of data were processed to get the continuous time series of the TZD. The longest time series is obtained from the site DAEJ, which has been in operation for about 10 years. We analyzed the seasonal and annual signals in the TZD estimates at DAEJ and spatial correlations among eight sites.

  • In this paper, the precise synchronized clock generator using GPS receiver is presented. The GPS receiver provides a synchronized IPPS signal which guaranties a reliable standard time mark. This signal allows us to do time synchronization and correct the time step. We designed and implemented the precise synchronized clock generator based on DPLL in order to generate a high-resolution clock from a low-cost inaccurate oscillator with ALTERA FLEX EPM6016TC144-3. We also implemented a hardware unit and proved that the unit provides 1MHz clock output which had a high resolution and accuracy when it was combined with GPS receiver.

  • Quick evaluations of two in-plane orbit maneuvers using small sets of real-time GPS navigation solutions were performed for the KOMPSAT-1 spacecraft operation. Real-time GPS navigation solutions of the KOMPSAT-1 were collected during the Korean Ground Station(KGS) pass. Only a few sets of position and velocity data after completion of the thruster firing were used for the quick maneuver evaluations. The results were used for antenna pointing data predictions for the next station contact. Normal orbit maneuver evaluations using large sets of playback GPS navigation solutions were also performed and the result were compared with the quick evaluation results.

  • A continuous and reliable electrical energy supply is the objective of any power system operation. A transmission line is the part of the power system where faults are most likely to happen. This paper describes the use of wavelet transform for analyzing power system fault transients in order to determine the fault location. Synchronized sampling was made possible by precise time receivers based on GPS time reference, and the sampled data were analyzed using wavelet transform. This paper describes a fault location monitoring system and fault locating algorithm with GPS, DSP processor, and data acquisition board, and presents some experimental results and error analysis.

  • The mean temperature is one of the key parameters in computing Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) from Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements and is usually derived as a function of surface temperature through the use of a mean temperature equation (MTE). In this study, two new types of MTEs were developed as functions solely of the observation time so that the mean temperature can be obtained without surface temperature measurements. To validate the new models, we created one-year time series of GPS-derived PWV using the new MTEs and compared them with the radiosonde-observed PWV. The bias and root-mean-square error were on the other of ~1 mm and ~2 mm, respectively.
