  • A hull-cleaning robot sticks to the surface of a vessel and moves for efficient cleaning. Precise path planning and tracking using the current position is crucial. Many robots rely on the INS algorithm, but errors accumulate. To fix this, GPS, sonar, and USBL are used, though with limitations. Selecting suitable sensors for the surface operation and accurate positioning algorithm are vital. In this study, we developed a robot position estimation algorithm using the structure of a ship. Problems that arise when expanding the 2D position estimation algorithm used in existing wall structures to 3D were evaluated and methods for solving them were proposed. In addition, we aimed to improve performance by deriving singularities that exist in the robot path and proposing an error correction algorithm based on the singularities.

  • AT(Aerial Triangulation) is the essential procedure for creating orthophoto and transforming coordinates on the photographs into the real world coordinates utilizing GCPs (Ground Control Point) which is obtained by field survey and the external orientation factors from GPS/INS as a reference coordinates. In this procedure, all of the GCPs can be collected from field survey using GPS and Total Station, or obtained from digital maps. Collecting GCPs by field survey is accurate than GCPs from digital maps; however, lots of manpower should be put into the collecting procedure, and time and cost as well. On the other hand, in the case of obtaining GCPs from digital maps, it is very difficult to secure the required accuracy because almost things at each stage in the collecting procedure should rely on the subjective judgement of the performer. In this study, the results from three methods have been compared for the accuracy assessment in order to know if the results of each case is within the allowance error: for the perceivable objects such as road boarder, speed bumps, constructions etc., 1) GCPs selection utilizing the unique LiDAR intensity value reflected from such objects, 2) using LiDAR DSM and 3) GCPs from field survey. And also, AT and error analysis have been carried out w ith GCPs obtained by each case.

  • The free-stereo mosaics image without GPS/INS and ground control data can be generated by using relative orientation parameters on the 3D model coordinate system. Its origin is located in one reference frame image. A 3D coordinate calculated by conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images is represented on the 3D model coordinate system. For determining 3D coordinate on the 3D absolute coordinate system utilizing conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images, transformation methodology is required for transforming 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate. Generally, the 3D similarity transformation is used for transforming each other 3D coordinates. Error of 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images is non-linearly increased according to distance from 3D model coordinate and origin point. For this reason, 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images are difficult to transform into 3D absolute coordinates by using linear transformation. Therefore, methodology for transforming nonlinear 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate is needed. Also methodology for resampling the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image is needed for overlapping digital map on absolute coordinate and stereo mosaic images. In this paper, we propose a 3D non-linear transformation for converting 3D model coordinate in the free-stereo mosaic image to 3D absolute coordinate, and a 2D non-linear transformation based on 3D non-linear transformation converting the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image.

  • In spite of that stop line and crosswalk should be aware of the most basic objects in transportation system, its features extracted are very limited. In addition to image-based recognition technology, laser and RF, GPS/INS recognition technology, it is difficult to recognize. For this reason, the limited research in this area has been done. In this paper, the algorithm to recognize the stop line and crosswalk is designed and implemented using image-based recognition technology with the images input through a vision sensor. This algorithm consists of three functions.; One is to select the area, in advance, needed for feature extraction in order to speed up the data processing, 'Region of Interest', another is to process the images only that white color is detected more than a certain proportion in order to remove the unnecessary operation, 'Color Pattern Inspection', the other is 'Feature Extraction and Recognition', which is to extract the edge features and compare this to the previously-modeled one to identify the stop line and crosswalk. For this, especially by using case based feature comparison algorithm, it can identify either both stop line and crosswalk exist or just one exists. Also the proposed algorithm is to develop existing researches by comparing and analysing effect of in-vehicle camera installation and changes in recognition rate of distance estimation and various constraints such as backlight and shadow.

  • Processing LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data obtained from ALS (Airborne Laser Scanning) systems mainly involves organization and segmentation of the data for 3D object modeling and mapping purposes. The ALS systems are viable and becoming more mature technology in various applications. ALS technology requires complex integration of optics, opto-mechanics and electronics in the multi-sensor components, Le. data captured from GPS, INS and laser scanner. In this study, digital image processing techniques mainly were implemented to gray level coded image of the LiDAR data for building extraction and superstructures segmentation. One of the advantages to use gray level image is easy to apply various existing digital image processing algorithms. Gridding and quantization of the raw LiDAR data into limited gray level might introduce smoothing effect and loss of the detail information. However, smoothed surface data that are more suitable for surface patch segmentation and modeling could be obtained by the quantization of the height values. The building boundaries were precisely extracted by the robust edge detection operator and regularized with shape constraints. As for segmentation of the roof structures, basically region growing based and gap filling segmentation methods were implemented. The results present that various image processing methods are applicable to extract buildings and to segment surface patches of the superstructures on the roofs. Finally, conceptual methodology for extracting characteristic information to reconstruct roof shapes was proposed. Statistical and geometric properties were utilized to segment and model superstructures. The simulation results show that segmentation of the roof surface patches and modeling were possible with the proposed method.

  • In this paper, to improve Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image quality, the effect of time synchronization error in the EGI/IMU (Embedded GPS/INS, Inertial Measurement Unit) integrated system is analyzed and state augmentation is applied to compensate it. EGI/IMU integrated system is widely used as a SAR motion measurement algorithm, which consists of EGI mounted to obtain the trajectory and IMU mounted on the SAR antenna. In an EGI/IMU integrated system, a time synchronization error occurs when the clocks of the sensors are not synchronized. Analysis of the effect of time synchronization error on navigation solutions and SAR images confirmed that the time synchronization error deteriorates SAR image quality. The state augmentation is applied to compensate for this and as a result, the SAR image quality does not decrease. In addition, by analyzing the performance and the observability of the time synchronization error according to the maneuver, it was confirmed that the time-variant maneuver such as rotational motion is necessary to estimate the time synchronization error adequately. In order to reduce the influence of the time synchronization error on the SAR image, the time synchronization error must be compensated by performing maneuver changing over time such as a rotation before SAR operation.

  • This paper presents methods and results of both flight test examining roll angle estimation performance of slowly rolling munition forced to spin in the air, and fabricating a replica of guided munition. Guided munition was deployed from multi rotor type UAV mother ship whose altitude and velocity was conveyed to it as initial state. Flight test scenario is composed of a sequence of munition drop(deployment), munition spin, roll angle estimation and stabilization. Munition was deployed from mother ship at around 200m high with horizontal velocity of 15m/s, and was made spun using internal reaction wheel. Performance analysis on roll angle estimation is provided in comparison with commercial aerospace graded GPS/INS. Moreover, several mechanisms that rotates munition using reaction wheel, and actual product that realizes one of them are introduced.
