Studies of Nonstoichiometry and Physical Properties of the Perovskite $Sm_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_{3-y}$ System

  • A series of samples in the Sm1-xSrxCoO3-y(x=0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00) system has been prepared at 1200 ℃ under ambient atmosphere. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples with x=0.00 and 0.25 are indexed with orthorhombic symmetry like GdFeO3 and x=0.50 appears to be perfectly cubic. In the tetragonal system (x=0.75), the structure is similar to that of SrCoO2.80. The composition of x=1.00, SrCoO2.52, shows the brownmillerite-type structure. The reduced lattice volume is increased with x value in this system. The chemical analysis shows the τ value (the amount of the Co4+ ions in the system) is maximized at the composition of x=0.50. Nonstoichiometric chemical formulas are determined by the x, τ and y values. The electrical conductivity has been measured in the temperature range of 78 to 1000 K. The activation energy is minimum for those of x=0.25 and x=0.50 with metallic behavior. First-order semiconductor-to-metal transition of SmCoO3 is not observed. Instead, a broad, high-order semiconductor-to-metal transition is observed. In general, the effective magnetic moment is increased with increasing τ values at low temperature. At high temperature, the magnetic moment is maximum for that of x=0.00. The 3d-electrons are collective and give ferromagnetism in x=0.50.

Intracranial Plasma Cell Granuloma

  • Plasma cell granuloma is a tumor-like disease characterized by non-neoplastic polyclonal proliferation of plasma cells and other mononuclear cells. This disease occurs most frequently in the lung and upper respiratory tract, while the involvement of the central nervous system is very rare. A 44-year-old female patient presented with nausea and progressive visual disturbance. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the mass along the right tentorium with low signal intensity in the T2 weighted image (T2WI) and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence, and an isosignal intensity in T1 weighted image (T1WI), the latter of which was enhanced after administration of gadolinium-diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA). The thickest portion of the tentorium was partially excised via the combined suboccipital and infratentorial approach. The histopathological examination indicated a diagnosis of plasma cell granuloma. Postoperative steroid therapy was administered for remnant tumor control. Although a follow up MRI scan taken 20 months after the operation showed a slight decrease in tumor size, the lesion had extended to the falx and left frontal convexity along with parenchymal edema at 32 months after the operation and the clinical status was aggravated. The mass was removed from the left frontal convexity. Radiation therapy was given, together with steroid administration.

ANISOTROPY CONSTANTS OF $(Sm_{0.5}RE_{0.5})Fe_{11}Ti$ COMPOUNDS (RE=RARE EARTH)

  • Using by the x-ray diffractometry(XRD), the thermomagnetic analysis(TMA), a scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), we knew that the $(Sm_{0.5}RE_{0.5})Fe_{11}Ti$ (RE=Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Gd,Tb) compounds were formed to tetragonal $ThMn_{12}$-type structure having a uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy with easy magnetization c-axis. The intrinsic magnetic properties of those were determined by fitting the two magnetization curves of experimental and calculation magnetization. The anisotropy constant $K_{1}$ of this compounds was in the range of $1.75\;-\;9.2\;MJ/m^{3}$ and approximately one order higher than $K_{2}$. $SmFe_{11}Ti$ had the highest anisotropy of $K_{1}\;=\;9.2\;MJ/m^{3}$, $K_{2}\;=\;0.4\;MJ/m^{3}$ and ${\mu}_{o}H_{A}=\;19.8\;T$ among the compounds, substitution of any other rare earth elements for Sm decreased magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

수량예측모델을 통한 Alfalfa 수량에 영향을 미치는 기후요인 및 토양요인의 기여도 평가 (Assessment of Contribution of Climate and Soil Factors on Alfalfa Yield by Yield Prediction Model)

  • 본 연구는 기후요인과 토양요인이 알팔파 건물수량에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는지를 기여도로 평가할 목적으로, 기상변수와 토양물리성변수를 고려하여 일반선형모형으로 수량예측모델을 구축하였다. 알팔파 수량예측모델 구축과정은 알팔파, 기상 및 토양자료수집, 가공, 통계분석 및 모델구축 순이었다. 수량예측모델은 알팔파와 양적자료인 기상변수를 선택하기 위한 다중회귀분석과 질적자료인 토양물리성변수도 고려하기 위해서 일반선형모형을 사용하였다. 그 결과 DMY에 영향을 미치는 기상변수는 적산온도와 생육일수이었으며, 토양물리성변수는 점토함량이 선택되었다. DMY에 영향을 미치는 변수별 기여도는 점토함량(63%), 적산온도(21%) 및 생육일수(11%)순 이었으며 요인별 기여도는 기후요인(적산온도, 21%와 생육일수, 11%)이 32%, 토양요인(점토함량)이 63%로 나타나 토양요인이 기후요인보다 알팔파 건물수량에 더 기여하는 것으로 평가하였다. 본 연구에서 이용한 알팔파 자료는 토성, 시비수준 및 품종이 제한되어 있어 앞으로 이들 요인을 고려한 다양한 조건의 재배실험을 통하여 보다 많은 자료축적이 요구된다.

A Framework for Implementing Information Systems Integration to Optimize Organizational Performance

  • The primary aim of this study is to investigate the influence of Service Provider Quality (SPQ), System Quality (SQ), Information Quality (IQ), and Training Quality (TQ) on the interconnected aspect of organizational performance known as growth and development (GD). The study examined the influence of information systems (IS) on organisational performance and provided a theory-based technique for conducting research. The theoretical foundation for this study is derived from the widely employed [1]. IS success model in information systems research. The study's framework incorporates several novel elements, drawn from a comprehensive review of both recent and earlier literature, which researchers have utilized to evaluate the dimensions of [1]. In this study, we collected data from a diverse group of 348 individuals representing various industries through a web-based questionnaire. The collected data were subjected to analysis using SPSS. We conducted a multiple regression analysis involving 15 factors to assess several hypotheses regarding the relationship between the independent construct IS effectiveness and the dependent construct organizational performance. Several noteworthy descriptive statistics emerged, which hold significance for management. The study's findings strongly indicate that information systems exert a significant and beneficial influence on organizational performance. To sustain and continually enhance organizational effectiveness, the study recommends that managers periodically scrutinize and assess their information systems.

중·저온형 고체산화물 연료전지 공기극의 적용을 위한 Sr이 치환된 이중층 페로브스카이트 기반 복합공기극 물질의 분말 크기 및 열 사이클에 따른 전기화학특성 분석 (Electrochemical Investigation in Particle Size and Thermal Cycles of Sr Doped Layered Perovskite Based Composite Cathodes for Intermediate Temperature-operating Solid Oxide Fuel Cell)

  • 본 연구에서는 Sr이 치환된 이중층 페로브스카이트($SmBa_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_2O_{5+{\delta}}$, SBSCO)와 전해질 물질로 사용되는 $Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-{\delta}}$ (CGO91)을 기반으로 한 중 저온형 고체산화물 연료전지 (ITSOFC) 복합공기극의 분말 크기와 열 사이클에 대한 전기화학특성을 연구하였다. 복합공기극의 모체가 되는 SBSCO에 CGO91물질을 이용하여 면적비저항을 확인 한 결과 약 $0.54\sim9.04{\mu}m$의 분말 크기를 보이는 SBSCO와 $0.4\sim42{\mu}m$의 분말 크기를 보인 CGO91이 각각 50 wt%로 구성된 SBSCO : 50 복합공기극이 600 및 $700^{\circ}C$에서 약 0.102 및 $0.013{\Omega}cm^2$의 우수한 면적비 저항을 가지는 것을 확인 하였으며 상대적으로 분말 크기가 큰 CGO91 분말을 이용한 두 개의 공기극의 경우 $700^{\circ}C$에서 약 $0.260{\Omega}cm^2$$0.055{\Omega}cm^2$의 특성을 보여주었다. 10회에 걸친 열 사이클실험을 통하여 SBSCO : 50의 면적비저항은 $0.0193{\Omega}cm^2$에서 $0.094{\Omega}cm^2$로 증가하였으며 7회 이후의 면적비저항은 일정하게 유지됨을 확인하였다.

MR Imaging and Histological Findings of Experimental Cerebral Fat Embolism in Cats

  • To determine the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings and natural history of cerebral fat embolism in a cat model, and to correlate the MR imaging and histologic fmdings. Intemel carotid artery of 11 cats was injected with 0.1 ml of triolein. T2-weighted, T1-weighted and Gd-enhanced T1-weighted images were obtained serially for 2 hours, 1 days, 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks after embolization. Any abnormal signal intensity was evaluated. After MR imaging at 3 weeks, brain tissue was obtained for light microscopic (LM) examination using hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Luxol fast blue staining, and for electron microscopic examination. The LM examination with HE staining revealed normal histological findings in the greater part of an embolized lesion. Cystic change was observed in the gray matter of 8 cats, while in the gray and white matter of 3 cats. At LM examination, Luxol fast blue, staining demonstrated demyelination around the cystic change occurring in the white matter, and EM examination of the embolized cortex revealed sporadic intracapillary fat vacuoles (n=11) and disruption of the blood-brain barrier (n=4). Most lesions were normal, however, and perivascular interstitial edema and cellular swelling were mild compared with the control side. The greater part of an embolized lesion showed reversible findings at MR and histological examination. Irreversible focal necrosis was, however, observed in gray and white matter at weeks 3.

Physicochemical Property of Borosilicate Glass for Rare Earth Waste From the PyroGreen Process

  • A study was conducted on the vitrification of the rare earth oxide waste generated from the PyroGreen process. The target rare earth waste consisted of eight elements: Nd, Ce, La, Pr, Sm, Y, Gd, and Eu. The waste loading of the rare earth waste in the developed borosilicate glass system was 20wt%. The fabricated glass, processed at 1,200℃, exhibited uniform and homogeneous surface without any crystallization and precipitation. The viscosity and electrical conductivity of the melted glass at 1,200℃ were 7.2 poise and 1.1 S·cm-1, respectively, that were suitable for the operation of the vitrification facility. The calculated leaching index of Cs, Co, and Sr were 10.4, 10.6, and 9.8, respectively. The evaluated Product Consistency Test (PCT) normalized release of the glass indicated that the glass satisfied the requirements for the disposal acceptance criteria. Furthermore, the pristine, 90 days water immersed, 30 thermal cycled, and 10 MGy gamma ray irradiated glasses exhibited good compressive strength. The results indicated that the fabricated glass containing rare earth waste from the PyroGreen process was acceptable for the disposal in the repository, in terms of chemical durability and mechanical strength.

Pixel-Structured Scintillator with Polymeric Microstructures for X-Ray Image Sensors

  • We introduce a pixel-structured scintillator realized on a flexible polymeric substrate and demonstrate its feasibility as an X-ray converter when it is coupled to photosensitive elements. The sample was prepared by filling $Gd_2O_2S:Tb$ scintillation material into a square-pore-shape cavity array fabricated with polyethylene. For comparison, a sample with the conventional continuous geometry was also prepared. Although the pixelated geometry showed X-ray sensitivity of about 58% compared with the conventional geometry, the resolving power was improved by about 70% above a spatial frequency of 3 $mm^{-1}$. The spatial frequency at 10% of the modulation-transfer function was about 6 $mm^{-1}$.

난소절제 흰쥐의 대동맥에서 이소플라본 섭취와 규칙적 운동에 따른 Apoptosis의 변화 (Change of Apoptotosis on Isoplavone Diet and Regular Exercise in Aorta of Ovariectomized Rats)

  • The objective of this study was to compare the effects of a combined treatment consisting of an isoflavone diet and aerobic exercise on the Caspase 9 levels, and Bcl-2 levels during menopause, using 30 S.D ovariectomized rats as a model, over 12 weeks. The ovariectomized rats were divided into 4 experiment groups, with 8 rats in each group, as follows: (1) General diet group (GD, n=8), (2) Isoflavone diet group (ID, n=8), (3) General diet + Exercise group (GEX, n=8), (4) Isoflavone diet + Exercise group (IEX, n=8). The findings of this study were as follows: 1. Combined treatment consisting of an isoflavone diet and regular exercise resulted in a significant reduction in the expression of caspase-9 proteins (p<0.05), and a significant increase in the expression of Bcl-2 proteins (P<0.001). In addition, apoptotic cells were more decreased (p<0.001) in GEX and IEX group. This also suggests that cardiovascular disease in postmenopausal women might be prevented or inhibited to exert positive apoptotic inhibitory effects by increasing Bcl-2 protein expression within aortic tissues during vascular movement and decrease caspase-9 protein.
