  • The compaction pile methods with low replacement area ratio used sand(SCP) or gravel(GCP) has been usually applied to improvement of soft clay deposits. In order to design accurately compaction pile method with low replacement area ratio, it is important to understand the mechanical interaction between sand piles and clays and its mechanism during consolidation process of the composition ground. In this paper, a series of numerical analyses on composition ground improved by SCP and GCP with low replacement area ratio were carried out, in order to investigate the mechanical interaction between sand piles and clays. The applicability of numerical analyses, in which and elasto-viscoplastic consolidation finite element method was applied, could be confirmed comparing with results of a series of model tests on consolidation behaviors of composition ground improved by SCP. And,through the results of the numerical analyses, each mechanical behaviors of compaction piles and clays in the composition ground during consolidation was elucidated, together with stress sharing mechanism between compaction piles and clays.

  • The calibration of resistance factor in reliability theory for limit state design of gravel compaction piles (GCP) requires a reliable estimate of ultimate bearing capacity. The static load test is commonly used in geotechnical engineering practice to predict the ultimate bearing capacity. Many graphical methods are specified in the design standard to define the ultimate bearing capacity based on the load-settlement curve. However, it has some disadvantages to ensure reliability to obtain an uniform ultimate load depend on engineering judgement. In this study, a well-fitting nonlinear regression model is proposed to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity, for which a nonlinear regression analysis is applied to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of GCP and the results are compared with those calculated using previous graphical method. Affect the resistance factor of the estimate method were analyzed. To provide a database in the development of limit state design, the load test conditions for predicting the ultimate bearing capacity from static load test are examined.

  • An effective method is necessary for the real-time analysis of an unmanned military robot. To achieve highly efficient simulations, a subsystem synthesis method has been developed. The subsystem synthesis method separately generates equations of motion for the base body and for the subsystem. The equations of motion are expressed by DAE, which consist of differential equations and algebraic equations. To increase the accuracy and efficiency of solutions, DAE solvers such as the Direct, CS (Constraint Stabilization), and GCP (Generalized Coordinate Partitioning) method are employed. In this study, the subsystem synthesis method is applied for effective multi-body dynamics analysis of an unmanned military robot, and a comparative study of three different DAE solvers is carried out.

  • The drone photogrammetry is actively utilized for obtaining highly accurate spatial information and other various monitoring purposes. It is general to plan the drone photogrammetry by referring to previous experiences or cases in order to obtain the required accuracy, but the drone photogrammetry is often carried out again due to poor accuracy. Since the required spatial accuracy of the drone photogrammetry process result becomes the means of objective evaluation regardless of the type of result, it should be determined carefully. Therefore, it is necessary to determine flight height, overlap, number and arrangement of ground control point, and exterior orientation factor acquisition method in order to meet the required 3D positional accuracy for the design of drone photogrammetry project. In this study, previous study cases for the analysis of drone photogrammetry accuracy were carefully analyzed and verified by applying such cases to testing area, and design guideline of drone photogrammetry project for a small area was prepared based on the analysis result. The presented project design guideline is expected to be a great help to business practice although it is not perfect, and if the design guideline is prepared through comprehensive analysis in future, it would be possible to provide a perfect manual.
