  • PURPOSE. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the amount of marginal gap with two different substructure materials using identical margin preparations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty stainless steel models with a chamfer were prepared with a CNC device. Marginal gap measurements of the galvano copings on these stainless steel models and Co-Cr copings obtained by a laser-sintering method were made with a stereomicroscope device before and after the cementation process and surface properties were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A dependent t-test was used to compare the mean of the two groups for normally distributed data, and two-way variance analysis was used for more than two data sets. Pearson's correlation analysis was also performed to assess relationships between variables. RESULTS. According to the results obtained, the marginal gap in the galvano copings before cementation was measured as, on average, $24.47{\pm}5.82{\mu}m$ before and $35.11{\pm}6.52{\mu}m$ after cementation; in the laser-sintered Co-Cr structure, it was, on average, $60.45{\pm}8.87{\mu}m$ before and $69.33{\pm}9.03{\mu}m$ after cementation. A highly significant difference (P<.001) was found in marginal gap measurements of galvano copings and a significant difference (P<.05) was found in marginal gap measurements of the laser-sintered Co-Cr copings. According to the SEM examination, surface properties of laser sintered Co-Cr copings showed rougher structure than galvano copings. The galvano copings showed a very smooth surface. CONCLUSION. Marginal gaps values of both groups before and after cementation were within the clinically acceptable level. The smallest marginal gaps occurred with the use of galvano copings.

  • In order to estimate delivered nutrients load from non-point sources in the Gap stream watershed in Daejeon, a distributed watershed model SWAT2000 was used so that it could predict the impact of land management practices on water, sediments and chemicals yields in large complex watersheds with varing soils, land uses and management condition over long period of time. The SWAT2000 was applied to the Daejeon (Indong), Yudeung (Boksu) and Gap (Hoeduck) streams for TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) of nutrients. The observed water quality and streamflow data of the year of 2002 and 2003 were used for calibration, and those of the year 2004 and 2005 were used for validation. Simulated results were evaluated by Estimation Efficiency Analysis (COE), Regression Analysis $(R^2)$ and Relative Error (R.E.) for the nutrients amounts on the monthly and yearly basis by comparing observed load with estimated load obtained by using SWAT2000 simulations. The COE value fur T-N was ranged from 0.59 to 0.78, $R^2$ values for T-N ranged from 0.65 to 0.84, and R.E values fur T-N load ranged from 4% to 20%. COE value far T-N was ranged from 0.59 to 0.73, $R^2$ values for T-P ranged from 0.67 to 0.82, and R.E values for T-P load ranged from 3% to 25%. Estimated results of SWAT2000 simulation for 3 sites (Indong, Boksu, Hoedeok) were reasonably satisfactory. This study indicated that SWAT2000 model could be applicable to estimate the nutrients load from the Gap stream watershed in Korea.

  • In the offshore project such as semi-submersible FPU and FPSO, the free fall type life boat called TEMPSC (Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft) has been installed for the use of an emergency evacuation of POB (People on Board) from the topside platform. For the design of life boat arrangement for semi-submersible FPU in the initial design stage, the drop height and launch angle are required fulfill with the limitation of classification society rule and Company requirement, including type of approval as applicable when intact and damage condition of the platform. In this paper, we have been performed the numerical studies to find proper arrangement for the life boats consider drop height in various environmental conditions such as wave, wind and current. In the calculations, the contributions from static and low frequency (LF) motions are considered from the hydrodynamic and mooring analysis as well as damage angle from the intact and damage stability analysis. Also, Air-gap calculation at the life boat positions has been carried out to check the effect on the life boat arrangement. The air-gap assessment is based on the extreme air-gap method includes the effect of 1st order wave frequency (WF) motions, 2nd order low frequency roll/pitch motion, static trim/heel and set down.

  • The characteristics of involute gear pump with eccentric gap between gear tip and housing have been studied in terms of volumetric flow rate and/or flow efficiency. The analysis has been done with FLUENT/R-13 employing with k-e model for the turbulent flow under the given conditions of rotational velocity, gap distance and outlet pressure. The effect of parameters continues to be shown for the eccentric gear as same as for the concentric gear such that the volumetric flow rate (volumetric efficiency) increases as the increases of rotational velocity and decrease of gap distance and of outlet pressure. In the meantime, the shape of pressure build-up appears to be exponentially increase as gap distance decreases at upstream position. The pressure is rapidly developing in the upstream and remains almost constant thereafter in the downstream of circumferential flow path. This typical characteristics becomes more profound as eccentricity increases. The pump performance for the eccentric gear pump with minimum gap distance shows better than its concentric counterpart. However, it shows not for the concentric pump with minimum gap distance. Therefore, the gap reduction due to eccentricity may be positive for pump performance.

  • In this study, an empirical relationship between the energy band gap of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and synthesis parameters in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor using factorial design of experiment was established. A bimetallic (Fe-Ni) catalyst supported on $CaCO_3$ was synthesized via wet impregnation technique and used for MWCNT growth. The effects of synthesis parameters such as temperature, time, acetylene flow rate, and argon carrier gas flow rate on the MWCNTs energy gap, yield, and aspect ratio were investigated. The as-prepared supported bimetallic catalyst and the MWCNTs were characterized for their morphologies, microstructures, elemental composition, thermal profiles and surface areas by high-resolution scanning electron microscope, high resolution transmission electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermal gravimetry analysis and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. A regression model was developed to establish the relationship between band gap energy, MWCNTs yield and aspect ratio. The results revealed that the optimum conditions to obtain high yield and quality MWCNTs of 159.9% were: temperature ($700^{\circ}C$), time (55 min), argon flow rate ($230.37mL\;min^{-1}$) and acetylene flow rate ($150mL\;min^{-1}$) respectively. The developed regression models demonstrated that the estimated values for the three response variables; energy gap, yield and aspect ratio, were 0.246 eV, 557.64 and 0.82. The regression models showed that the energy band gap, yield, and aspect ratio of the MWCNTs were largely influenced by the synthesis parameters and can be controlled in a CVD reactor.

  • Purpose: The osmolar gap increases in proportion to the ethanol level. Some previous studies have shown that the correlation between the osmolar gap and the ethanol level is weak in trauma patient by using an indirect comparison with other patients. We conducted a direct comparison of the correlation of the osmolar gap to the ethanol level between trauma patients and non-trauma patients. We also analyzed the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level between the two groups. Methods: The research candidates were adult patients who had visited the emergency department of our hospital from December 2003 to November 2008. By using a retrospective chart review, we classified them into three subgroups: non-trauma without shock, trauma without shock, and trauma with shock. In each group, we compared the correlation between the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level, and we analyzed the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level by using Lin's concordance correlation coefficient. Results: Four hundred forty-seven patients were enrolled in this study. For correlation of the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level, Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.916 in all patients, 0.939 in non-trauma without shock patients, 0.917 in trauma without shock patients, and 0.844 in trauma with shock patients. In the analysis of the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level by using Lin's concordance correlation coefficient, the accuracy in trauma with shock patients was lower than that in non-trauma without shock patients. Conclusion: We found that the correlation between the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level in the patient group with trauma was lower than it was in the patient group without trauma. Moreover trauma patients with shock had a lower accuracy of the estimated ethanol level than non-trauma patients.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the gap between foodservice personnel and inpatients, to urge foodservice providers to reconsider by identifying the problems in service delivery for customer satisfaction, and to deduce the priority for foodservice quality improvement. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : the average perception score of personnel (4.32 out of 5) was higher than that of customers (3.90). In particular, the customers' perceptions of 17 attributes, which included 'removal service of tray by foodservice personnel', 'nutrition and health-related information service', 'handling inpatient's complaint ASAP', 'delicious meals' and 'salty enough meals' and so on, was significantly lower than personnel's. Both service providers and customers perceived that 'personnel attitude' was the highest and 'meal quality' was the lowest among the 4 factors, but there was significant difference on 'meal quality'(p < .001), 'customer reception' (p < .001) and 'personnel attitude' (p < .05) between the two groups. As a results of quadrant analysis, 'removal service of tray by foodservice personnel', 'handling inpatient's complaints ASAP' and 'meal service according to doctor's orders were categorized into Quadrant A with meaning of high personnel's perceptions and low customers'. Therefore service providers have to perceive the gap between the two viewpoints and grant priority to these attributes in improving foodservice qualify. • A major problem in Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is torque ripple, which causes undesirable acoustic noise and vibration. This work focuses on reducing the undesirable torque ripple in SRM by modifying stator and rotor geometry. This paper presents a comparative study on torque ripple minimization in SRM with modified pole shapes such as stator pole taper, stator pole face with non-uniform air gap and pole shoe attached to rotor pole. Further this paper presents a detailed sensitivity analysis of the effect of different geometrical parameters that alter the pole face shapes on the performance of SRM. The analysis is performed using finite-element method considering average torque and torque ripple as performance parameters. Based on the analysis, a design combining stator pole taper with non-uniform air gap is proposed to improve the torque characteristics of SRM. The dynamic characteristics of the proposed design are simulated and the results show satisfactory reduction in torque ripple.

  • This paper deals with magnetic field and characteristic analysis for ring type slotless synchronous motors by using analytical method. Since magnetic air-gap in the slotless motors is much larger than mechanical air-gap, it is necessary to analyze the magnetic flux distribution at the whole magnetic airgap region. therefore, this paper analyzes the duplicated magnetic field derived by both Permanent Magnet(PM) and armature current and estimates the back electromotive force and torque characteristic by subdividing the conductor region. The analysis results are verified by comparing with Finite Element Analysis(FEA) results.
