  • Machine learning algorithms have made immense contributions in various fields including sonar and radar applications. Recently developed Cycle-Consistency Generative Adversarial Network (CycleGAN), a variant of GAN has been successfully used for unpaired image-to-image translation. We present a modified CycleGAN for translation of underwater ship engine sounds with high perceptual quality. The proposed network is composed of an improved generator model trained to translate underwater audio from one vessel type to other, an improved discriminator to identify the data as real or fake and a modified cycle-consistency loss function. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the proposed CycleGAN are performed on publicly available underwater dataset ShipsEar by evaluating and comparing Mel-cepstral distortion, pitch contour matching, nearest neighbor comparison and mean opinion score with existing algorithms. The analysis results of the proposed network demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed network.

  • As the population interested in interior design has been increasing, the global interior market has grown significantly. Global interior companies are developing and providing simulation services for various interior elements. Although wallpaper design is the most important interior element, existing wallpaper design simulation services are difficult to use due to drawbacks such as differences between expected and actual results, long simulation time, and the need for professional skills. We proposed a wallpaper image transformation method for interior design using cycle generative adversarial networks (GAN). The proposed method demonstrates that users can simulate wallpaper design within a short period of time based on interior image data using various types of wallpaper.

  • The importance of data in the development of deep learning is very high. Data with high morphological features are usually utilized in the domains where careful lens calibrations are needed by a human to capture those data. Synthesis of high morphological data for that domain can be a great asset to improve the classification accuracy of systems in the field. Unsupervised learning can be employed for this task. Generating photo-realistic objects of interest has been massively studied after Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) was introduced. In this paper, we propose Morpho-GAN, a method that unifies several GAN techniques to generate quality data of high morphology. Our method introduces a new suitable training objective in the discriminator of GAN to synthesize images that follow the distribution of the original dataset. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can generate plausible data as good as other modern baseline models while taking a less complex during training.

  • Generative adversarial networks(GANs) have received great attention in the machine learning field for their capacity to model high-dimensional and complex data distribution implicitly and generate new data samples from the model distribution. This paper investigates the model training methodology, architecture, and various applications of generative adversarial networks. Experimental evaluation is also conducted for generating synthetic image dataset for defense using two types of GANs. The first one is for military image generation utilizing the deep convolutional generative adversarial networks(DCGAN). The other is for visible-to-infrared image translation utilizing the cycle-consistent generative adversarial networks(CycleGAN). Each model can yield a great diversity of high-fidelity synthetic images compared to training ones. This result opens up the possibility of using inexpensive synthetic images for training neural networks while avoiding the enormous expense of collecting large amounts of hand-annotated real dataset.

  • GAN (Generative Adversarial Networks) creates highly sophisticated counterfeit products by learning real images or text and inferring commonalities. Therefore, it can be useful in fields that require the creation of large-scale images or graphics. In this paper, we implement GAN-based game character creation AI that can dramatically reduce illustration design work costs by providing expansion and automation of game character image creation. This is very efficient in game development as it allows mass production of various character images at low cost.

  • Defect detection during liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturing has always been a critical challenge. This study aims to address this issue by proposing a data augmentation method based on generative adversarial networks (GAN) to improve defect identification accuracy in LCD production. By leveraging synthetically generated image data from GAN, we effectively augment the original dataset to make it more representative and diverse. This data augmentation strategy enhances the model's generalization capability and robustness on real-world data. Compared to traditional data augmentation techniques, the synthetic data from GAN are more realistic, diverse and broadly distributed. Experimental results demonstrate that training models with GAN-generated data combined with the original dataset significantly improves the detection accuracy of critical defects in LCD manufacturing, compared to using the original dataset alone. This study provides an effective data augmentation approach for intelligent quality control in LCD production.

  • Techniques for generating new sample data from higher dimensional data such as images have been utilized variously for speech synthesis, image conversion and image restoration. This paper adopts Progressive Growing of Generative Adversarial Networks(PG-GANs) as an implementation model to generate high-resolution images and to enhance variation of the generated images, and applied it to fashion image data. PG-GANs allows the generator and discriminator to progressively learn at the same time, continuously adding new layers from low-resolution images to result high-resolution images. We also proposed a Mini-batch Discrimination method to increase the diversity of generated data, and proposed a Sliced Wasserstein Distance(SWD) evaluation method instead of the existing MS-SSIM to evaluate the GAN model.

  • In this paper, we propose a generative adversarial networks (GAN) based text-to-image generating method. In many natural language processing tasks, which word expressions are determined by their term frequency -inverse document frequency scores. Word2Vec is a type of neural network model that, in the case of an unlabeled corpus, produces a vector that expresses semantics for words in the corpus and an image is generated by GAN training according to the obtained vector. Thanks to the understanding of the word we can generate higher and more realistic images. Our GAN structure is based on deep convolution neural networks and pixel recurrent neural networks. Comparing the generated image with the real image, we get about 88% similarity on the Oxford-102 flowers dataset.

  • It has been widely acknowledged that occlusion impairments adversely distress many face recognition algorithms' performance. Therefore, it is crucial to solving the problem of face image occlusion in face recognition. To solve the image occlusion problem in face recognition, this paper aims to automatically de-occlude the human face majority or discriminative regions to improve face recognition performance. To achieve this, we decompose the generative process into two key stages and employ a separate generative adversarial network (GAN)-based network in both stages. The first stage generates an initial coarse face image without an occlusion mask. The second stage refines the result from the first stage by forcing it closer to real face images or ground truth. To increase the performance and minimize the artifacts in the generated result, a new refine loss (e.g., reconstruction loss, perceptual loss, and adversarial loss) is used to determine all differences between the generated de-occluded face image and ground truth. Furthermore, we build occluded face images and corresponding occlusion-free face images dataset. We trained our model on this new dataset and later tested it on real-world face images. The experiment results (qualitative and quantitative) and the comparative study confirm the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed work in removing challenging occlusion masks with various structures, sizes, shapes, types, and positions.
