  • Conventional methods in time / frequency domain for evaluating the compensation performance of active power filters are not provided easy solutions. So, the authors have previously proposed 3-D current coordinates which is composed into active component, fundamental reactive component and distorted component of nonlinear loads current. This method has excellent performance, but can not evaluate the characteristics of nonlinear load current whether it is inductive or capacitive. Therefore, To overcome problems mentioned previously, this paper deals with the simple Average power theory and the expanded 3-D current coordinates for evaluating the compensation performance of active power filters. To confirm the validity, active power filters simulator is developed using C-language. From the simulation, results are discuss their utility.

  • Acoustic emission technology is applied to diagnosis the internal leak and operating conditions of the major valves at nuclear power plants. The purpose of this study is to verify availability of the acoustic emission as in-situ diagnosis method. In this study, acoustic emission tests are performed when the pressurized high temperature steam flowed through gate valve(1st stage reheater valve) and glove valve(main steam dump valve) on the normal size of 4 and 8". The valve internal leak diagnosis system for practical field was designed. The acoustic emission method was applied to the valves at the site, and the background noise was measured for the abnormal plant condition. To improve the reliability, a judgment of leak on the system was used various factors which are AE parameters, trend analysis, signal level analysis and RMS(root mean square) analysis of acoustic signal emitted from the valve operating condition internal leak.

  • The effectiveness of NOx emission reductions from power plants to alleviate persistent ozone nonattainment in the esterm Unites States was investigated with a focus on the Northeast Corridor, centered on New York City. The 1995 ozone episode along with the 2007 base case emission scenario was used with the Variable-Grid Urban Airshed Model(UAM-V) to determine ozone concentrations. Several scenarios based on EPA's proposal issued on October 10, 1997 were examined. Although it is widely recognized that the eastern United States includes a large Nox-sensitive region(e.g., Sillman, 1999), the study revealed that reducing NOx emissions from power plants beyond 500 miles (800km) was not effective for reducing ozone exceedances in the region. It was also found that NOx emissions from power plants play an important role in local ozone exceedances.

  • This paper presents a frequency doubler operating at G-band that exceeds the maximum oscillation frequency ($f_{max}$) of the given transistor technology. A common-source transistor is biased on class-B to obtain sufficient output power at the second harmonic frequency. The input and output impedances are matched to achieve high output power and high return loss. The frequency doubler is fabricated in a commercial 150-nm GaAs pHEMT process and obtains a measured conversion gain of -5.5 dB and a saturated output power of -7.5 dBm at 184 GHz.

  • Wide operating range and speed control is needed for wind power generating and a Doubly Fed Induction Generator(DFlG) has good adaptivity for that purpose. Ths paper investigates speed and output stator power control using a grid connected to a DFlG in super-synchronous speed regions, by control of both magnitude and frequency of the voltage fed to the rotor. For the speed control analysis, torque simulation is perforrred whereby the different slip between qJernting rmtor driving frequency and synchronous frequency of M-G system awlied. To keep the output rating of the generator, the exciting frequency and voltage attenuation are arolied.rolied.

  • 3kW photovoltaic (PV) systems and data acquisition system are constructed for performance analysis of PV system at field demonstration test center (FDTC) of Korea. As climatic and irradiation conditions are varied, the performance characteristics of PV system are collected and analyzed in data acquisition system. From these results, the performances of gird-connected power conditioning system (PCS) fur PV system have been evaluated and analyzed. Furthermore, performance indices of grid-connected PCS e.g. output power, efficiency, loss factor, and the other index at the site are reviewed.

  • In this paper, an DC/DC converter system has been proposed, which is suitable for fuel cell based power generation systems. The proposed converter system has outstanding advantages over the conventional dc-dc converters with respect to high efficiency and high power density. The developed converter system has been experimentally tested with using DSP PWM controller so that the performance of the proposed converter could be effectively examined and the validity of the converter could be verified.

  • This paper proposes a single-phase bidirectional AC/DC converter topology applied in V2G systems, which consists of an inverter and a bidirectional non-inverting buck-boost converter. This topology can operate in four modes: buck charging, boost charging, buck discharging and boost discharging with high input current quality and unity input power factor. The inverter switches at line frequency, which is different from conventional voltage source inverters. A bidirectional buck-boost converter is utilized to adapt to a wider charging voltage range. The modulation and control strategy is introduced in detail, and the switching patterns are optimized to reduce the current ripple. In addition, the semiconductor losses are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed topology.
