  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of adding unrefined oil on the antioxidant activity of a tuna oil-enriched emulsion by determining DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and inhibition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation in vitro. The emulsion consisted of tocopherol-stripped canola (18.3 g) and tuna (9.1 g) oil, one of the unrefined oils (4.6 g), such as extra virgin olive, mustard, perilla, or sesame oil, 0.5% acetic acid (64 g), and egg yolk powder (4 g). The control emulsion contained only canola (21.4 g) and tuna oil (10.6 g), as oil sources, with the same composition of the remaining ingredients. The emulsion with added unrefined oil, particularly mustard oil, showed higher radical scavenging activity and reducing power than those of the control emulsion. The radical scavenging activity and reducing power of the emulsion with added unrefined oil were higher at 1,000 ppm than at 500 ppm thus, the effect was concentration-dependent. Adding sesame or perilla oil to the tuna oil-enriched emulsion resulted in higher inhibition of LDL oxidationwhereas adding olive oil increased LDL oxidation. The results clearly showed that adding roasted mustard, sesame, or perilla oil improved the antioxidant activity of a tuna oil-enriched emulsion by increasing free radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and inhibiting LDL oxidation. The results also suggest that adding unrefined oils produces a healthier fish oil-enriched salad dressing recipe.

  • A quantitative model was developed in order to estimate fishery production damage due to anthropogenically induced environmental changes. The model is described in the following equation, $Y_D=\frac{{\phi}_D}{{\phi}_G}[Y_0{\cdot}(t_p-t_0)-\frac{Y_0}{{\phi}_G}(1-e^{-{\phi}_G(t_p-t_0)})]$, where, $Y_D$ is annual amount of fishery production by nuclear power plant. ${\varphi}$ D and ${\varphi}$ G are instantaneous decreasing coefficient of fishery production by nuclear power plant and instantaneous decreasing coefficient of gross fishery production, respectively. $Y_0$ is annual mean fishery production without damages. $t_p$ is the present time, and $t_0$ is the starting time of damages. The model was applied to fishing grounds near a nuclear power plant on the east coast of Korea. Since fishery production damages have become bigger with increasing emission of thermal effluents from generators activities in the power plant, this factor has also been considered as, $\delta_{D_i}=\delta_D\({\sum}\limits_{i=0}^{n}\;W_i/W_T\)$, where, $\delta_{Di}$ is the cumulative damage rate in fishery production from generators, $\delta_D$ is the total cumulative damage rate in fishery production, $W_i$ is the emission amount of thermal effluents by generator i, and n is the number of generators in the nuclear power plant. This model can be used to conduct initial estimates of fishery production damages, before more detailed assessments are undertaken.

  • A highly efficient dual-mode linear CMOS stacked-FET power amplifier (PA) is implemented for 3G UMTS and 4G LTE handset applications. High efficiency is achieved at a backed-off output power ($P_{out}$) below 12 dBm by employing an active-bypass amplifier, which consumes very low quiescent current and has high load-impedance. The output paths between high- and low-power modes of the PA are effectively isolated by using a bypass switch, thus no RF performance degradation occurs at high-power mode operation. The fabricated 900 MHz CMOS PA using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) CMOS process operates with an idle current of 5.5 mA and shows power-added efficiency (PAE) of 20.5%/43.5% at $P_{out}$ = 12.4 / 28.2 dBm while maintaining an adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) better than -39 dBc, using the 3GPP uplink W-CDMA signal. The PA also exhibits PAE of 35.1% and $ACLR_{E-UTRA}$ of -33 dBc at $P_{out}$ = 26.5 dBm, using the 20 MHz bandwidth 16-QAM LTE signal.

  • The MAX77846, which is compatible with MAX77826, is a sub-power management IC (PMIC) for the latest Wearable Watch and 3G/4G smart phones. The MAX77846 contains N-MOSFET (N channel Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor), a high-efficiency regulator, and comparator, etc to power up peripherals. The MAX77846 also provides power on/off control logic for complete flexibility and an $I^2C$ (Inter Integrated Circuit) serial interface to program individual regulator output voltages. In this paper, the simplified power macro-model based on MAX77846 is designed to verify the performance of the battery voltage in terms of current and time, and simulated by using of the LTspice. In addition, it is verified how much time can the charged battery capacity for Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 be used to operate a specified function after measuring the currents flowing to carry out the main functions in real time, which will be applicable to design parameters for the advanced power module

  • This paper contains the results of developing smart devices and applications to monitor the load power of the industrial manufacturing machine and evaluate its performance. The smart devices in this paper are divided into two functionalities, which are collecting load power along with operating environment data of industrial manufacturing machines and transmitting the data to servers. Load power data collected from the smart devices are uploaded to MariaDB inside the Amazon Web Service (AWS) server. Using the RESTFul API, the uploaded power data can be retrieved and shown on the web and mobile application in the form of a graph to provide monitoring capability. To evaluate the performance of the developed system, the response time from MariaDB to web and mobile applications was measured. The results is ranging from 0.0256 to 0.0545 seconds in a 4G (LTE) network environment and from 0.6126 to 1.2978 seconds in a 3G network environment, which is considered a satisfactory result.

  • In binary-modulation non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), there has been rare researches for the 1+1 capacity region to be achieved; how much total power is required and what power allocation is assigned for this total power. In this paper, the average total transmitted power to achieve 1+1 capacity region of binary pulse amplitude modulation (2PAM) NOMA is investigated, with a tolerable loss. Then, based on the sufficient average total transmitted power, we calculate the power allocation coefficient to achieve 1+1 capacity region. Furthermore, it is shown by numerical results that with the tolerable loss less than 0.008, near 1+1 capacity region is achieved. We also calculate numerically the power allocation coefficient for both users to achieve near 1+1 capacity region. As a result, for 2PAM NOMA to operate near 1+1 capacity region, proper total power with appropriate power allocation could be calculated in design of NOMA systems.

  • A compact Wilkinson power divider with meta-material transmission line(MM-TL) is proposed. The divider is designed by adding the MM-TL with $+90^{\circ}$ phases shifting instead of the ${\lambda}_g/4$ with $-90^{\circ}$ phases shifting at a simple Wilkinson power divider. The MM-TL consists of three phase shifter unit cells and each cell has the characteristics of the $30^{\circ}$ phases shilling and 6 mm length. Therefore, the length of ${\lambda}_g/4(210 mm)$ TL with $-90^{\circ}$ phases shifting at a simple Wilkinson power divider can be reduced to 18 mm and the Wilkinson divider is very compact.
