Proxy Caching Grouping by Partition and Mapping for Distributed Multimedia Streaming Service (분산 멀티미디어 스트리밍 서비스를 위한 분할과 사상에 의한 프록시 캐싱 그룹화)

  • Recently, dynamic proxy caching has been proposed on the distributed environment so that media objects by user's requests can be served directly from the proxy without contacting the server. However, it makes caching challenging due to multimedia large sizes, low latency and continuous streaming demands of media objects. To solve the problems caused by streaming demands of media objects, this paper has been proposed the grouping scheme with fuzzy filtering based on partition and mapping. For partition and mapping, this paper divides media block segments into fixed partition reference block(R$_f$P) and variable partition reference block(R$_v$P). For semantic relationship, it makes fuzzy relationship to performs according to the fixed partition temporal synchronization(T$_f$) and variable partition temporal synchronization(T$_v$). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme makes streaming service efficiently with a high average request response time rate and cache hit rate and with a low delayed startup ratio compared with other schemes.

Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance Algorithm for Autonomous Control of Underwater Flight Vehicle (수중비행체의 자율제어를 위한 지능형 장애물회피 알고리즘)

  • In real system application, the obstacle avoidance system for the autonomous control of the underwater flight vehicle (UFV) operates with the following problems: it has local information because the sonar can only offer the obstacle information in a local detection area, it requires a continuous control input because the system that has reduced acoustic noise and power consumption is necessary, and further, it requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, an intelligent obstacle avoidance algorithm using the evolution strategy (ES) and the fuzzy logic controller (FLC), is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the obstacle avoidance of UFV is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively solves the problems in the real system application.

  • Typical wireless sensor networks used in structural monitoring are continuous types wherein data transmission is progressive at all time that may include irrelevant and insignificant data and information. Continuous types of wireless monitoring systems often pose problems of handling large-sized data that may deteriorate the performance of the system. The proposed method is to suggest an event-triggered monitoring system that captures and transmits relevant data only. An error signal generated by the Principal Components Analysis (PCA) is utilized as an index for event detection and selective data transmission. With this new monitoring scheme, the remote server is relieved of unwanted data by receiving only relevant information from the wireless sensor networks. The performance of the proposed scheme was verified with simulation studies.

  • This paper presents a method for occluded object based motion estimation and tracking system in dynamic image sequences using particle filter with 3D reconstruction. A unique characteristic of this study is its ability to cope with partial occlusion based continuous motion estimation using particle filter inspired from the mirror neuron system in human brain. To update a prior knowledge about the shape or motion of objects, firstly, fundamental 3D reconstruction based occlusion tracing method is applied and object landmarks are determined. And optical flow based motion vector is estimated from the movement of the landmarks. When arbitrary partial occlusions are occurred, the continuous motion of the hidden parts of object can be estimated by particle filter with optical flow. The resistance of the resulting estimation to partial occlusions enables the more accurate detection and handling of more severe occlusions.

  • The rapid growth of network based IT systems has resulted in continuous research of security issues. Probe intrusion detection is an area of increasing concerns in the internet community. Recently, a number of probe intrusion detection schemes have been proposed based on various technologies. However, the techniques, which have been applied in many systems, are useful only for the existing patterns of probe intrusion. They can not detect new patterns of probe intrusion. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new Probe Intrusion Detection technology that can find new patterns of probe intrusion. In this paper, we proposed a new network based probe intrusion detector(NePID) using anomaly traffic analysis and fuzzy cognitive maps that can detect intrusion by the denial of services attack detection method utilizing the packet analyses. The probe intrusion detection using fuzzy cognitive maps capture and analyze the packet information to detect syn flooding attack. Using the result of the analysis of decision module, which adopts the fuzzy cognitive maps, the decision module measures the degree of risk of denial of service attack and trains the response module to deal with attacks. For the performance evaluation, the "IDS Evaluation Data Set" created by MIT was used. From the simulation we obtained the max-average true positive rate of 97.094% and the max-average false negative rate of 2.936%. The true positive error rate of the NePID is similar to that of Bernhard's true positive error rate.

Filling of Incomplete Rainfall Data Using Fuzzy-Genetic Algorithm (퍼지-유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 결측 강우량의 보정)

  • As the distributed model is developed and widely used, the accuracy of a rainfall measurement and more dense rainfall observation network are required for the reflection of various spatial properties. However, in reality, it is not easy to get the accurate data from dense network. Generally, we could not have the proper rainfall gages in space and even we have proper network for rainfall gages it is not easy to reflect the variations of rainfall in space and time. Often, we do also have missing rainfall data at the rainfall gage stations due to various reasons. We estimate the distribution of mean areal rainfall data from the point rainfalls. So, in the aspect of continuous rainfall property in time, we should fill the missing rainfall data then we can represent the spatial distribution of rainfall data. This study uses the Fuzzy-Genetic algorithm as a interpolation method for filling the missing rainfall data. We compare the Fuzzy-Genetic algorithm with arithmetic average method, inverse distance method, normal ratio method, and ratio of distance and elevation method which are widely used previously. As the results, the previous methods showed the accuracy of 70 to 80 % but the Fuzzy-Genetic algorithm showed that of 90 %. Especially, from the sensitivity analysis, we suggest the values of power in the equation for filling the missing data according to the distance and elevation.

A Study on the Safety Policies of Truck Traffic Using Fuzzy-AHP (Fuzzy-AHP를 이용한 화물자동차의 교통안전 대책에 관한 연구)

  • With the increase of truck traffic, roads are becoming more congested and the risk of accidents is also increasing. Since the fatality rate of traffic accidents caused by trucks is about 2 to 3 times higher than that of passenger cars and buses, it is urgent to prepare policies for truck traffic safety. While most of the previous studies focused on factor analysis that contributes to traffic accidents, this study presented traffic safety policies (4 major-criteria and 12 sub-criteria) for trucks through driver interviews and previous studies. Then, the priority of the policies was evaluated by using Fuzzy-AHP. As a result, the improvement of truck drivers' working environment was evaluated as the most important criteria, and followed by the improvement of road traffic conditions. In detail, there is an urgent need to improve the freight car fare system, ensure sufficient rest for drivers, and strengthen the crackdown of illegal parking and stopping along roads. This study is expected to be usefully utilized in preparing traffic flow safety policies in preparation for the continuous increase of truck traffic.

An Automatic Control System of the Blood Pressure of Patients Under Surgical Operation

  • We developed an automatic blood pressure control system to maintain the blood pressure of patients at a substantially low level during a surgical operation. The developed system discharges two functions, continuous feedback control of the mean arterial pressure (MAP) by a state-predictive servo controller and risk control based on the inference by fuzzy-like logics and rules using measured data. Twenty-eight clinical applications were made beginning in November 1995, and the effects of the automatic blood pressure control on the operation time and on bleeding were assessed affirmatively by means of Wilcoxon testing. This paper essentially reports the engineering details of the control system.

Document Summarization via Convex-Concave Programming

  • Document summarization is an important task in various areas where the goal is to select a few the most descriptive sentences from a given document as a succinct summary. Even without training data of human labeled summaries, there has been several interesting existing work in the literature that yields reasonable performance. In this paper, within the same unsupervised learning setup, we propose a more principled learning framework for the document summarization task. Specifically we formulate an optimization problem that expresses the requirements of both faithful preservation of the document contents and the summary length constraint. We circumvent the difficult integer programming originating from binary sentence selection via continuous relaxation and the low entropy penalization. We also suggest an efficient convex-concave optimization solver algorithm that guarantees to improve the original objective at every iteration. For several document datasets, we demonstrate that the proposed learning algorithm significantly outperforms the existing approaches.

Observer-based sampled-data controller of linear system for the wave energy converter

  • In this paper, an observer-based sampled-data controller of linear system is proposed for the wave energy converter. Based on the sampled-data observer, the controller is design. In the closed-loop system with controller, it obtains the norm inequality between the continuous-time state variable and the discrete-time one. Using the norm inequality, sufficient condition is derived for the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system and formulated in terms of linear matrix inequality. Finally, the wave energy converter simulation is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
